A new concept for the processing and fabrication of rigid-rod molecular composites aiming at the elimination or minimization of phase separation is proposed. This approach calls for a coil-like aromatic polyisoimide which is soluble and compatible with an amorphous matrix polymer or thermosettable oligomer and can undergo facile transformation to the corresponding rigid-rod polyimide in solid composite state, thus imparting the inherently high strength/high modulus properties to the final form. To this end, various synthetic routes were explored to obtain para-diamines which could afford high molecular weight and aprotic-solvent-soluble polyisoimides upon polymerization with pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). Four such polyisoimides were prepared, with their inherent viscosities ranging from 0.25 to 1.89 dl g−1 in dimethylacetamide at 30°C. Facile thermally induced isoimide-imide conversion was demonstrated by solid-state (film) Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. A preliminary evaluation of the compatibility of the polyisoimide/matrix resin was made. In one instance, a film prepared from the polyisoimide derived from PMDA and 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) showed no visually detectable phase separation. 相似文献

Polyaniline doped with nonoxidizing Bronsted acids is recognized as a conducting material, as its electrical conductivity changes with percentage of doping. In the present work, different percentages of doped polyaniline were blended with polyacrylamide and their electrical conductivities as well as the positron annihilation lifetimes were measured. Analysis of data yielded three lifetime components. It was observed that the value of the short lifetime component remained constant for doping concentration, whereas that of the intermediate component τ2 decreased. The thermal degradation of poly(vinyl butyral) (PVB)/glass ceramic, PVB/Ag, and PVB/glass ceramic/Ag composites was investigated with thermogravimetric analysis in nitrogen and air. Thermogravimetric data revealed that the compositions of both inorganic materials in air could greatly influence the thermal degradation of PVB. The degradation reactions of PVB/ceramic and PVB/Ag composites began earlier and accelerated rapidly at lower temperatures. The overall degradation period was obviously shortened for the thermal degradation of PVB/Ag in air, whereas a longer time was required for the PVB/ceramic composite than for PVB. Moreover, dual effects of ceramic and Ag on the thermal degradation of PVB were observed for PVB/ceramic/Ag composites. The effects of oxyen plasma treatment on the surface chemistry of Spectra 1000® high modulus polyethylene fibers and on the mechanical properties of fiber-reinforced composites of the fibers in a Bis-GMA based acrylic resin have been studied. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and diffuse reflectance FTIR spectroscopy have been used to show that the majority of oxygen on the fiber surface exists mostly in the form of ether and/or epoxy linkages, with carbonyl-, carboxylic- and ester-containing compounds accounting for less than 10 percent of the total. While the untreated and plasma-treated fibers have similar chemical compositions, the surfaces of the plasma-treated fibers are more polar and the oxygen is chemically bonded instead of being merely physisorbed. The interfacial shear strength between the fibers and the acrylic resin is increased by a factor of 2.3 by the plasma treatment indicating the presence of a weak boundary layer on the surface of the untreated fibers. The hydrolytic stability of the composite interfaces was investigated for fibers sized with several Bis-GMA-based adhesives. Maximum stability was attained by sizing with Bis-GMA containing a peroxide catalyst or an amine accelerator. The flexural properties of composites utilizing plasma-treated and untreated fibers were compared in three-point bending. The ultimate bending loads for composites using treated fibers were much higher than those for composites with untreated fibers, but only a fraction of that for glass or Kevlar®-reinforced materials. 相似文献
