Mixed strategy -equilibrium points are given forN-person games with cost functions consisting of quadratic, bilinear, and linear terms and strategy spaces consisting of closed balls in Hilbert spaces. Several definitions of the pressure are introduced for one-component systems and shown to be nonequivalent in the presence of a rigid neutralizing background. Relations between these pressures are derived for finite and infinite systems; these relations depend on the asymptotic behavior of the force at infinity, with the Coulomb force at the borderline between different properties. It is argued that only one of those definitions is physically acceptable and its properties are discussed in relation to the asymptotic behavior of the force. It is seen in particular that a knowledge of the state of the infinite system is not sufficient to determine its thermodynamic properties. This paper provides answers to several questions raised by V. Klee regarding the efficacy of Mattheiss' algorithm for finding all vertices of convex polytopes. Several results relating to the expected properties of polytopes are given which indicate thatn-polytopes defined by large numbers of constraints are difficult to obtain by random processes, the expected value of the number of vertices of polytope is considerably less than Klee's least upper bound the expected performance of Mattheiss' algorithm is far better than Klee's upper bound would suggest.  相似文献

Based on the assumption of a kinetic equation in space, a stochastic differential equation of the one-particle distribution is derived without the use of the linear approximation. It is just the Boltzmann equation with a Langevin-fluctuating force term. The result is the general form of the linearized Boltzmann equation with fluctuations found by Bixon and Zwanzig and by Fox and Uhlenbeck. It reduces to the general Landau-Lifshitz equations of fluid dynamics in the presence of fluctuations in a similar hydrodynamic approximation to that used by Chapman and Enskog with respect to the Boltzmann equation.This work received financial support from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.  相似文献

We review the physical principles which are at the basis of recent field-theoretic computations of the critical exponents in two- and three-dimensional systems. We concentrate on those points that do not show up explicitly in the more standard-expansion: they must be discussed with care if one uses a perturbative approach at fixed space dimensions (the loop expansion). We present in detail simple computations of the critical exponents, while we summarize the results of longer and more accurate computations.  相似文献

A variable dimension algorithm is presented for the linear complementarity problems – Mz = q; s,z 0; s i z i = 0 fori = 1,2, ,n. The algorithm solves a sequence of subproblems of different dimensions, the sequence being possibly nonmonotonic in the dimension of the subproblem solved. Every subproblem is the linear complementarity problem defined by a leading principal minor of the matrixM. The purpose of this paper is to present a new primal extreme point algorithm for solving assignment problems which both circumvents and exploits degeneracy. The algorithm is based on the observation that the degeneracy difficulties of the simplex method result from the unnecessary inspection of alternative basis representations of the extreme points. This paper characterizes a subsetQ of all bases that are capable of leading to an optimal solution to the problem if one exists. Using this characterization, an extreme point algorithm is developed which considers only those bases inQ. Computational results disclose that the new algorithm is substantially more efficient than previously developed primal and primal-dual extreme point (simplex) methods for assignment problems.  相似文献

A single (nonrelativistic, spinless) electron subject to a constant external electric field interacts with impurities located on an infinitely extended lattice by a potential of random strength. The random strength is given by a field of Gaussian random variables. Consider a population consisting of one type of individual living in a fixed region with area A. In [8], we constructed a stochastic population model in which the death rate is affected by the age of the individual and the birth rate is affected by the population density PA(t), i.e., the population size divided by the area A of the given region. In [8], we proposed a continuous deterministic model which in general is a nonlinear Volterra type integral equation and proved that under appropriate conditions the sequence PA(t) would converge to the solution P(t) of our integral equation in the sense that

Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) has been used to obtain information on the temperature-controlled combustion characteristics of seventeen coals of different origin from Thrace basin of Turkey. Experiments were performed in air atmosphere up to 600°C at a heating rate of 10°C min-1. The DSC/TG curves clearly demonstrate distinct transitional stages in the entire coal samples studied. Reaction intervals, peak and burn-out temperatures of the coal samples are also determined. Two different kinetic methods known as, Arrhenius and Coats-Redfern, were used to analyze the kinetic data and the results are discussed.  相似文献
