This paper presents a numerical study of piston-driven heat transfer and fluid flow in a plane channel containing a sudden
expansion. The numerical method employed is based on a control-volume-based finite element method for incompressible flow
with a staggered and moving grid and SIMPLER algorithm for pressure-velocity coupling. The numerical results show a good agreement
with the experimental data reported in the literature. Results concerning time and space evolution of the thermal and flow
fields are presented for different values of the expansion ratio, the initial clearance volume, and the piston velocity.

The homogeneous plastic flow of fully amorphous and partially crystallized Zr(41.2)Ti(13.8)Cu(12.5)Ni(10)Be(22.5) bulk metallic glass (Vitl) has been investigated by compression tests at high temperatures in supercooled liquid region. Experimental results show that at sufficiently low strain rates, the supercooled liquid of the fully amorphous alloy reveals Newtonian flow with a linear relationship between the flow stress and strain rate. As the strain rate is increased, a transition from linear Newtonian to nonlinear flow is detected, which can be explained by the transition state theory. Over the entire strain rate interval investigated, however, only nonlinear flow is present in the partially crystallized alloy, and the flow stress for each strain rate is much higher. It is found that the strain rate-stress relationship for the partially crystaltized alloy at the given temperature of 646 K also obeys the sinh law derived from the transition state theory, similar to that of the initial homogeneous amo 相似文献

Diamond growth with rates up to 100 to 140 μm/hr was achieved using an oxygen-acetylene combustion spraying technique in an
atmospheric environment. Investigations on the processing indicated that the gas flow ratio, substrate position, substrate
temperature, temperature distribution, and substrate pretreatment were the most important factors affecting the growth of

Progress in modelling air flow patterns in timber kilns using Computational Fluid Dynamics is reviewed in this work. These simulations are intended to predict the distribution of the flow in the fillet spaces between boards in a hydraulic model of a timber kiln. Here, the flow regime between the boards is transitional between laminar and turbulent flow, with Reynolds numbers of the order of 5000. Running the simulation as a transient calculation has shown few problems with convergence issues, reaching a mass residual of 0.2% of the total inflow after 40-100 iterations per time step for time steps of 0.01 s. Grid sensitivity studies have shown that non-uniform grids are necessary because of the sudden changes in flow cross section, and the flow simulations are insensitive to grid refinement for non-uniform grids with more than 300,000 cells. The best agreement between the experimentally-measured flow distributions between fillet spaces and those predicted by the simulation have been achieved for (effective) bulk viscosities between the laminar viscosity for water and ten times that value. This change in viscosity is not very large (less than an order of magnitude), given that effective turbulent viscosities are typically several orders of magnitude greater than laminar ones. A method for computing three-dimensional Reynolds shear stresses and boundary shear stress distribution in smooth rectangular channels is developed by applying an order of magnitude analysis to integrate the Reynolds equations. A simplified relationship between the lateral and vertical terms is hypothesized for which the Reynolds equations become solvable. This relationship has the form of a power law with an exponent of n = 1, 2, or infinity. The semiempirical equations for the boundary shear distribution and the distribution of Reynolds shear stresses are compared with measured data in open channels. The power-law exponent of 2 gave the best overall results while n=infinity gave good results near the boundary. 相似文献

本文基于三角形网格划分,采用有限元法,建立了平面二维非恒定潮流数学模型。采用了质量集中、压缩存储的处理方法和“预估校正”的时间推进算法,较好地解决了有限元计算存储量和计算速度问题。对长江口南北支河段进行了验证计算,结果表明模型能较好模拟长江口南北支河段的潮流运动情况,且计算稳定性好、速度快、精度高。 相似文献
