Aromatic plants dominate in Mediterranean-type ecosystems. They often produce remarkable quantities of essential oils containing high amounts of phenolic isoprenoids, such as thymol and carvacrol. The purpose of this work was to examine the interactions between commonly occurring aromatic plants in the Mediterranean environment and their snail grazers. The aromatic plants used were two Origanum vulgare subspecies, subsp. hirtum and subsp. vulgare. They differ in the content and the qualitative composition of their essential oil; subsp. hirtum contains a much larger amount and is rich in phenolic compounds. Their effect on the foraging behavior of three snail species, native in Greece, was studied; the snail species were Helix lucorum, H. aspersa, and Eobania vermiculata. The snails' responses to different food sources, raw or processed, with or without essential oils, were evaluated during the different stages of the foraging cycle. During the encounter stage, snails were more repelled than attracted when close to phenol-rich foods. During the acceptance stage, all snail species tended to reject food types that contained high concentrations of subsp. hirtum essential oil. At the feeding stage, subsp. hirtum essential oil caused reduction of daily consumption rates. Overall, the essential oil of O. vulgare subsp. vulgare did not produce any marked change in the snails' behavior. In contrast, that of O. vulgare subsp. hirtum had a repellent effect, particularly when present in naturally occurring high concentrations. Among the snail species, H. lucorum, which does not share the same biotope with O. vulgare subsp. hirtum, was the least tolerant to its essential oil. 相似文献

Bursehernin (5′-desmethoxyyatein) is a natural lignan, which has anti-tumor activity in vitro. In this study, the binding-inhibitory effects of bursehernin were screening on selected 80 proteins associated with cancer pathway. The computational analysis suggested inhibitory effect due to bursehernin towards proteins related to cancer proliferation, including FMS kinase receptor, heat shock protein 90-α (Hsp90-α), adenylate cyclase 10 (ADCY10), mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK1), and α-tubulin. Moreover, bursehernin could interfere with cell cycle progression via binding to cyclin B proteins. Among all screened proteins, the compound showed an interesting binding affinity to the FMS kinase receptor. The binding mode studies by molecular dynamic technique showed that aromatic ring of bursehernin compound was responsible for compound-protein interaction through pi-pi stacking with Tyr105 and Phe178 of the FMS kinase receptor. This study suggests that bursehernin has potential for development as an anti-tumor agent with an anti-proliferation, and cell cycle arrest inducing, although further studies are needed. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Drying in superheated steam under pressure gives possibilities for pollution free drying, energy recovery. reduced drying time and a very compact drying equipment. Products are dried i n a pressurized cellular fluid bed by super heated steam blown through the cells. Above the fluid bed dust is separated before the steam is reheated and recirculated to the cells by a fan. The evaporated water leaves the dryer as usable steam at e.g. 3 bar g, and full energy recovery is obtained. Today 14 plants have been builtor are under construction, with capacities from 2 to 40t / h water evaporation. This technology is suited for drying of beet pulp, residues from starch production of corn or wheat. sludge. spent grain. brown coal. wood chips and bark. The strength of Inconel 718 under rotary bending fatigue is investigated at room temperature, 300, 500 and 600 °C in air. It is found that in the long-life region, the fatigue strength of a plain specimen is much higher at elevated temperatures than at room temperature, though the static strength decreases with the increase in temperature. The effect of temperature on the fatigue strength is examined in terms of the initiation and early growth behaviour of a small crack. The results are discussed in relation to the competition between the softening of the nickel matrix ( phase) and the surface oxidation at elevated temperatures. 相似文献

Coralyne is a synthetic analog of berberine related to protoberberine-isoquinoline alkaloids. Isoquinoline derivatives and analogs are renowned as potent radiosensitizers with potential medical application. In the present study, we investigated the effect of coralyne on the cell death, cytoskeletal changes and cell cycle progression of irradiated A549 cells. A clonogenic assay revealed that coralyne pretreatment decreased the viability of A549 cells in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Moreover, exposure to coralyne and ionizing radiation (IR) markedly altered the filamentous actin cytoskeletal architecture and integrin-β binding sites of A549 cells. Treatment with 1–25 µM coralyne in combination with 2 Gy of IR significantly reduced the percentage of cells in G2/M phase compared with 2 Gy IR alone. These results indicate that coralyne is a potent radiosensitizing agent that may find an application in medicine. 相似文献
