The terms related to the five sensory organs in traditional Chinese medicine are somewhat limited as compared with those of the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine. For this reason there are only 28 terms of sensory organs included in WHO International Standand Terminologies on Traditional Medicine in the Western Pacific Region （abbreviated as WHO Standard）.

The terms concerning body constituents in traditional Chinese medicine, comparatively speaking, are somewhat limited because the components of human body are limited. So altogether there are only 29 included in WHO International Standard Terminologies on Traditional Medicine in the Western Pacific Region （abbreviated as WHO Standard）, and 48 in International Standard Chinese-English Basic Nomenclature of Chinese Medicine compiled by World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies （abbreviated as WFCMS Standard）.

The so-called 三 焦 (triple energizer),a collective term for the three portions of the body cavity,through which the visceral qi is transformed,also widely known as three burners or three heaters or three warmers,is a special anatomical concept used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM),generally referring to the region from below the thoracic cavity to the region from above the pelvic cavity.     

中医临床用语的英语翻译问题

世界卫生组织（World Health Organization,WHO）＂传统医学国际疾病分类＂（International Classification of Traditional Medicine,ICTM）术语工作会议于2011年3月26～30日在上海召开。作为该组织术语工作组成员,笔者受命对ICTM所涉及的一些中医基础和临床术语进行了梳理和研究。

In diagnosis, doctors usually ask patients or their relatives questions about the occurrence, progress, treatment and symptoms of their illness as well as other concerned information in order to fully understand the pathological conditions of the patients and make accurate diagnosis.

In the field of inquiry, and expressions. In WHO there are many terms International Standard Terminologies on Traditional Medicine in the Western Pacific Region^[1] （abbreviated as WPRO Standard）. 211 terms are included. In International Standard Chinese-English Basic Nomencla- ture of Chinese Medicine compiled by World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies^[2] （abbreviated as WFCMS Standard）, more terms are listed. In both standards, most of the terms are well translated.

The Chinese characters表and里reflect two Chinese concepts.In traditional Chinese medicine （TCM）,these two concepts are used as two principles in analyzing the location,tendency and severity of diseases.The Chinese character表literally means＂external＂or＂exterior＂or＂surface＂while the character里literally means＂internal＂
