The kinetics of soil removal were investigated under domestic laundry conditions by incorporating small swatches of four artificially soiled test fabrics into a standard load of clean cotton goods. This prevented soil redeposition from affecting the soil removal rate. Two runs were analyzed, one with an anionic and the other with a nonionic detergent. Assessment of the amount of soil remaining on the fabric was made by reflectivity measurements interpreted according to the Kubelka-Munk equation. First-order kinetics were found to prevail for periods ranging from the first 6 min of the wash cycle to the entire 20 min, depending upon test fabric and detergent. For these lengths of time, the rate of soil removal was directly proportional to the amount of soil remaining on the fabric. The 8 first-order rate constants had rather similar values, varying at most by a factor of 2.3. The average value, 0.109 min−1, corresponds to a 6.4-min wash period for removing one-half of the soil and to a 21-min period for removing 90% of the soil from the soiled fabric. The magnitude of the response of the four artificially soiled test fabrics to the two detergents is compared and discussed in terms of the soiling materials. The nonionic detergent was more effective in cleaning a fabric soiled mainly with kaolin and wool fat, while the anionic detergent was more effective with a fabric containing large amounts of liquid oily soil plus carbon black and oleophilic bentonite.  相似文献

In this research, a universal framework for automated calibration of microscopic properties of modeled granular materials is proposed. The proposed framework aims at industrial scale applications, where optimization of the computational time step is important. It can be generally applied to all types of DEM simulation setups. It consists of three phases: data base generation, parameter optimization, and verification. In the first phase, DEM simulations are carried out on a multi-dimensional grid of sampled input parameter values to generate a database of macroscopic material responses. The database and experimental data are then used to interpolate the objective functions with respect to an arbitrary set of parameters. In the second phase, the Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II) is used to solve the calibration multi-objective optimization problem. In the third phase, the DEM simulations using the results of the calibrated input parameters are carried out to calculate the macroscopic responses that are then compared with experimental measurements for verification and validation.The proposed calibration framework has been successfully demonstrated by a case study with two-objective optimization for the model accuracy and the simulation time. Based on the concept of Pareto dominance, the trade-off between these two conflicting objectives becomes apparent. Through verification and validation steps, the approach has proven to be successful for accurate calibration of material parameters with the optimal simulation time.  相似文献

In response to a Department of Health, England, circular encouraging policies of named voluntary antenatal HIV antibody testing, one West Midlands health authority in England introduced a policy of raising the issue proactively at the first antenatal attendance. In order to facilitate this policy a short staff education programme was provided for midwives. This paper reports on part of a study which aimed to evaluate the impact of the HIV awareness training programme. A sample of midwives (n = 65) was randomly selected for inclusion in the study. Thirty-three had attended training and 32 had not. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire exploring knowledge of aetiology of HIV/AIDS, knowledge of transmission, knowledge of obstetric and paediatric HIV, attitudes to HIV, issues related to antenatal HIV antibody testing and opinions about the HIV awareness training programme. Results indicated no significant difference in levels of knowledge or in attitude between those who had attended the training programme and those who had not. Similarly, no significant difference was found in terms of how midwives would react to women requesting HIV antibody testing. Many of the results contradict the current literature and as a conclusion it is suggested that there is a need to review HIV-related training for midwives.  相似文献

A case of intramuscular hemangioma (large vessel type) occurring in an eighteen year old woman is described. Medical history reported a pulled muscle in the same region 5 years earlier. By needle biopsy was performed the diagnosis of hematoma evolved to sclerosis. Since pain persisted the neoplasia was removed. Intramuscular hemangioma is a benign neoplasia. Recurrences are always due to incomplete excision. Angiosarcomas and liposarcomas are the two tumors to be differentiated from hemangiomas of skeletal muscle. The relative paucity of cases combined with widespread histological pictures make the diagnosis very difficult.  相似文献

The storage ring COSY is planned to provide higher intensity and resolution for nuclear structure experiments using the light heavy ion beams (p, d, τ, α) of the JULIC cyclotron and the magnet spectrograph BIG KARL. The ring contains the measuring target of BIG KARL as an internal target, two rf cavities for compensating the mean energy loss in the target and providing additional acceleration of the stored beam and an e?-cooling section. In the recirculator mode, i.e., without e?-cooling, a luminosity of L = 3.64 × 1030 particles/(cm2 s) is obtained for an experiment with 41 MeV protons and a 50 μg/cm212C target at a spectrograph resolution p/dp = 104 and 100% duty factor. This corresponds to a gain in L of 546.5 in comparison with the same experiment without a storage ring. In the recirculator mode with acceleration L = 1.17 × 1032 p/(cm2 s) and 98.8% duty factor results for 1500 MeV protons on the same target at the same resolution. Using e?-cooling L and the feasible p/dp can be enhanced, however, at a reduced duty factor.  相似文献

In the last 25 years several non-invasive techniques based on the attenuation of ionizing radiation have been developed to quantify bone mineral density in the axial and peripheral skeleton. The use of ultrasounds is another technique which has recently been developed to provide information on the architecture and elasticity of bone. The basic principle of ultrasound measurements is that the speed (SOS = speed of sound) at which ultrasounds propagate in the bone, or the extent of their attenuation (BUA = broad-band ultrasound attenuation) through the bone is determined by bone density and by certain physical properties which are intimately correlated with bone strength. Theoretically, ultrasound bone measurements should provide more information about bone fragility and structure than densitometric techniques. As a result of preliminary studies, several ultrasound devices have been developed by manufacturers. Most of them measure the os calcis which consists almost exclusively of trabecular bone. Measurement precision varies with the instrument used and the site of measurement. The in vitro and in vivo precision for SOS and for BUA are reported in this review. The correlations between ultrasound and bone mineral density measurement suggest that these techniques measure different entities. A significant difference is constantly found between normal and osteoporotic women. Transversal studies have shown a negative correlation between ultrasound measurements and age. Age-related variations are much more significant with BUA than with SOS. Several studies suggest the potential of ultrasound measurements to assess the risk for individuals to develop osteoporosis and its usefulness in treatment follow-up.   • The FWK-Concept is capable to take into account the effects of loading sequences, size of repeated stress block of loads and fatigue limit variation in lifetime calculations. Hitherto, the concept had been restricted to cyclic loading at constant mean stress. Now the impact of mean stress variations, which is known to be dependent on previous damage, can successfully be included into the calculation.     In this paper, a method for interactive direct volume rendering is proposed for computing depth of field effects, which previously were shown to aid observers in depth and size perception of synthetically generated images. The presented technique extends those benefits to volume rendering visualizations of 3D scalar fields from CT/MRI scanners or numerical simulations. It is based on incremental filtering and as such does not depend on any pre‐computation, thus allowing interactive explorations of volumetric data sets via on‐the‐fly editing of the shading model parameters or (multi‐dimensional) transfer functions.  相似文献
