ABSTRACT

Blue–green colour cast effect and low contrast are common problems suffered by deep underwater images. This paper introduces a new method which consists of two major steps: red channel correction based on green and blue channels (RCCGB), and simultaneous contrast stretching and mean pixel enhancement (SCSMPE). The RCCGB is designed to minimize the effect of blue–green illumination. This step considers the differences between the red channel and other channels in terms of total pixel values. The second major step, SCSMPE is specifically designed to perform contrast stretching and improve the mean pixel value simultaneously through particle swarm optimization (PSO). Based on the visual observation, the proposed method significantly reduces the effect of the blue–green colour cast and improves the image contrast. Furthermore, the average quantitative values for 300 underwater images also demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an analytical investigation of one-way unreinforced masonry (URM) walls retrofitted with externally anchored steel studs and subjected to blast loads. Using the wall geometrical and material properties, deflected shape, and crack pattern as input, a nonlinear model is developed to predict the inward force-displacement relationship of the retrofitted walls. In addition, using a rigid body analysis, a simple bilinear force-displacement relationship is developed to model the outward force-displacement relationship of the walls. Utilizing these two force-displacement relationships (resistance functions), a generalized single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) model is developed to capture the nonlinear out-of-plane dynamic response of the retrofitted walls under blast loads. The SDOF model captured the experimentally observed displacement responses of the tested walls with reasonable accuracy. The model was also used to investigate the influence of block thickness, wall slenderness ratio, blast load intensity, and blast pulse shape on the out-of-plane dynamic response of retrofitted walls. The results demonstrated that anchored steel-stud systems could significantly enhance the out-of-plane capacity of the retrofitted walls by increasing their out-of-plane capacity and reducing their displacement.  相似文献

Six full-scale concrete masonry walls were tested under free-field blast loading using different charge sizes up to 250?kg of ammonium nitrate/fuel oil (ANFO) and at a constant stand-off distance of 15.0?m to cover a wide range of expected damage levels. Five walls were retrofitted with cold-formed steel studs anchored to the wall backs and were compared to the remaining as-built wall. Significant enhancement to the out-of-plane blast resistance of the retrofitted walls, compared to the as-built wall, was observed. This enhancement is attributed to the development of a tied-arch action in the retrofitted walls in which the masonry forms a compression strut while the steel studs serve as the tie. A simplified single-degree-of-freedom model was used to analyze the experimental results, and the model results agreed well with the observed damage levels and the resistances of the walls. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed retrofit technique was evaluated in terms of strength enhancement and wall deflection reduction. The test results were also compared with those predicted by available blast damage assessment models for unreinforced masonry walls. However, it was found that available models, which do not account for the tied-arch mechanism, greatly underestimate the actual blast capacity of the retrofitted walls because of the assumption of a tensile flexural failure mode. Additionally, the proposed retrofit technique shifts the mode of failure from flexure to shear.  相似文献

Live bird markets (LBMs) act as a network ‘hub’ and potential reservoir of infection for domestic poultry. They may therefore be responsible for sustaining H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus circulation within the poultry sector, and thus a suitable target for implementing control strategies. We developed a stochastic transmission model to understand how market functioning impacts on the transmission dynamics. We then investigated the potential for rest days—periods during which markets are emptied and disinfected—to modulate the dynamics of H5N1 HPAI within the poultry sector using a stochastic meta-population model. Our results suggest that under plausible parameter scenarios, HPAI H5N1 could be sustained silently within LBMs with the time spent by poultry in markets and the frequency of introduction of new susceptible birds'' dominant factors determining sustained silent spread. Compared with interventions applied in farms (i.e. stamping out, vaccination), our model shows that frequent rest days are an effective means to reduce HPAI transmission. Furthermore, our model predicts that full market closure would be only slightly more effective than rest days to reduce transmission. Strategies applied within markets could thus help to control transmission of the disease.  相似文献

A commonly observed failure mode in laboratory tests involving surface bonded fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates or near-surface-mounted (NSM) bars is premature delamination, that is, the separation of the FRP from the substrate well before the FRP reaches its ultimate strain capacity. To delay the onset of delamination and to ensure that the NSM FRP reinforcement continues to contribute to member strength after partial delamination, a new self-anchored carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) bar was developed and tested for this investigation. This bar is made with a series of monolithic spikes that can be anchored deep inside the concrete. In addition to cutting grooves into the concrete cover for the placement of the primary reinforcing bar, holes are drilled deep into the concrete to insert the spikes. To test the performance of this bar, six large, simply supported, reinforced, concrete beams were retrofitted with NSM bars and tested in four-point bending. Two beams were strengthened with NSM bars without anchors or spikes but were otherwise similar to the self-anchored bar and served as control specimens (Series?B1). Two beams were strengthened in flexure with the new self-anchored NSM bars (Series?B2), and the remaining two beams (Series?B3) were strengthened in flexure and shear by using the self-anchored NSM bars as partial shear reinforcement. The effect of the proposed strengthening system on the beams’ strength, failure mode, deformability, and ductility are discussed on the basis of the experimental results. The anchors delayed delamination and enabled the NSM bar to experience at least a 77% higher strain at failure than the companion bar without anchors. The anchors also increased beam displacement ductility and energy ductility at a 20% strength degradation by at least 34% and 42%, respectively.  相似文献

Coating a cutting tool improves wear resistance and prolongs tool life. Coating performance strongly depends on the mechanical and chemical properties of the coating material. In a machining process, the type of selected coating depends on the cutting condition because of the properties of the applied coating material. In addition, many factors, such as coating thickness, composition ratio, sequences of layers in multilayer coatings, and the deposition method influence the performance of a coating. In this study, the mechanical properties of TiCN and TiCN/ZrN were investigated using a ball on disk test. The substrate material made from a carbide-based cutting tool was also developed in-house. The analysis performed shows that the performances of TiCN and TiCN/ZrN coatings were found to be comparable to that of the commercial TiN-coated carbide-based cutting tool. Both the in-house and commercial coated inserts had significantly lower coefficient of friction than uncoated inserts, and the friction coefficient of TiCN coatings was constantly slightly lower than that of TiN coatings. Moreover, the coefficient of friction of the in-house developed TiCN was slightly lower than that of commercial TiN coating. However, the coefficient of friction of the in-house developed uncoated carbide inserts was slightly higher than that of commercial uncoated carbide inserts.  相似文献

Rate allocation for available bit-rate (ABR) services in ATM networks has received a considerable amount of attention, but important issues such as bandwidth fairness, MCR rate guarantees, and queue control still require further investigation. In light of these concerns, an enhanced rate allocation algorithm is proposed for congestion management using explicit rate feedback control. The algorithm uses fast, exact rate computations and is capable of achieving a variety of MCR-related fairness criteria. The scheme handles transient effects and can function in heterogeneous networks carrying higher priority real-time traffic. Simulation results for a wide range of network scenarios demonstrate that the algorithm effectively controls queue buildups and achieves good fairness. Performance scalability to large networks under challenging conditions is also shown for a given control parameter set  相似文献
