This work characterizes the thermal management of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stack with combined passive and active cooling. A 10-cell PEMFC stack with an active area of 100 cm2 for each cell is constructed. Six thermally conductive 0.1-mm-thick Pyrolytic Graphite Sheets (PGSs) are cut into the shape of flow channels and bound to the six central cathode gas channel plates. These PGSs, which are lightweight and have high thermal conductivity, function as heat spreaders and fins and provide passive cooling in the fuel cell stack, along with two small fans for forced convection. Three other cooling configurations with differently sized fans are also tested for comparisons (without PGSs). Although the maximum power generated by the stack with the configuration combining PGSs and fans was 183 W, not the highest among all configurations, it significantly reduced the volume, weight, and cooling power of the thermal management system. Net power, specific power, volumetric power density, and back work ratio of this novel thermal management method are 179 W, 18.54 W kg−1, 38.9 kW m−3, and 2.1%, respectively, which are superior to those of the other three cooling configurations with fans.  相似文献

KCND3 encodes the voltage-gated potassium channel KV4.3 that is highly expressed in the cerebellum, where it regulates dendritic excitability and calcium influx. Loss-of-function KV4.3 mutations have been associated with dominant spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA19/22). By targeted NGS sequencing, we identified two novel KCND3 missense variants of the KV4.3 channel: p.S347W identified in a patient with adult-onset pure cerebellar syndrome and p.W359G detected in a child with congenital nonprogressive ataxia. Neuroimaging showed mild cerebellar atrophy in both patients. We performed a two-electrode voltage-clamp recording of KV4.3 currents in Xenopus oocytes: both the p.G345V (previously reported in a SCA19/22 family) and p.S347W mutants exhibited reduced peak currents by 50%, while no K+ current was detectable for the p.W359G mutant. We assessed the effect of the mutations on channel gating by measuring steady-state voltage-dependent activation and inactivation properties: no significant alterations were detected in p.G345V and p.S347W disease-associated variants, compared to controls. KV4.3 expression studies in HEK293T cells showed 53% (p.G345V), 45% (p.S347W) and 75% (p.W359G) reductions in mutant protein levels compared with the wildtype. The present study broadens the spectrum of the known phenotypes and identifies additional variants for KCND3-related disorders, outlining the importance of SCA gene screening in early-onset and congenital ataxia.  相似文献

This paper aims at the PID control system design for multivariable input and multivariable output (MIMO) processes. An improved version of a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is utilized to design PID control gains in MIMO control systems. In addition to the individual best and the global best particles, the velocity updating formula of the developed algorithm includes a new factor, the best particle of each sub-population, to enhance the search capacity. Based on the improved particle swarm optimization (IPSO), a complete design strategy is proposed for MIMO PID control systems. All control gains will be evolved to the optimal values by minimizing the system performance criterion. To show the efficiency of the proposed design method, a multivariable chemical process system with two inputs and two outputs is illustrated. Some experiment results, including different algorithm parameter settings and comparisons with other methods, are given. Numerical simulations indicate that the proposed method is superior to other optimal methods.  相似文献

A combined finite element analysis/computational fluid dynamics scheme is used to investigate the design of a new deflected-helix ribbed lip seal. The deflected-helix design extends the high pressure region in the convergent space between the rib add the lip on the air side and yields higher pumping rate and better sealing performance. A full parametric analysis is performed to identify the optimal parameters of the deflected-helix design. The validity of the optimal design is confirmed by comparing the simulated values of the pumping rate at shaft rotation speeds of 1000-6000 rpm with the experimental results.  相似文献

IEEE 802.16j standard defines Relay Station (RS) to enhance network throughput. Deploying RSs within the serving area of the Base Station (BS) could increase network throughput but raise the hardware cost problem. This paper presents a deployment algorithm for IEEE 802.16j network. According to the history traffic of internet usage, the proposed algorithm deploys as few as possible RSs at suitable locations such that the traffic requirement of each subarea can be satisfied. The proposed relay deployment algorithm mainly consists of three phases. The first phase aims to construct several promising zones where a RS deployed in each zone can improve the transmission rate from mobile station to BS. The second phase further combines several zones into a bigger one aiming at reducing the number of deployed RSs. The last phase selects the relay zones from the promising zones and deploys one RS in each relay zone. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm can deploy the RSs at the most appropriate locations and hence efficiently reduce transmission delay and save the hardware cost.  相似文献

With time-delayed Fabry-Perot feedback, chaos in the wavelength of a tunable semiconductor laser diode has been successfully demonstrated. The nonlinear feedback function can be easily tuned by varying the optical path difference of a Fabry-Perot cavity. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been widely used in motoring and collecting interests of environment information. Packet flooding or broadcasting is an essential function for establishing a communication path from sink node to a region of sensor nodes. However, flooding operation consumes power and bandwidth resources and raises the packet collision and contention problems, which reduce the success rate of packet transmissions and consume energy. This article proposes an efficient broadcasting protocol to reduce the number of sensor nodes that forward the query request, hence improves the packet delivery rate and saves bandwidth and power consumptions. Sensor node that received the query request will dynamically transfers the coordinate system according to the zone-ID of source node and determines whether it would forward the request or not in a distributed manner. Compared with the CBM and traditional flooding operation, experimental results show that the proposed zone-based broadcasting protocol decreases the bandwidth and power consumptions, reduces the packet collisions, and achieves high success rate of packet broadcasting.Chih-Yung Chang received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Information Engineering from National Central University, Taiwan, in 1995. Loss-of-function mutations in the KV4.3 channel-encoding KCND3 gene are linked to neurodegenerative cerebellar ataxia. Patients suffering from neurodegeneration associated with iron deposition may also present with cerebellar ataxia. The mechanism underlying brain iron accumulation remains unclear. Here, we aim to ascertain the potential pathogenic role of KCND3 variant in iron accumulation-related cerebellar ataxia. We presented a patient with slowly progressive cerebellar ataxia, parkinsonism, cognitive impairment, and iron accumulation in the basal ganglia and the cerebellum. Whole exome sequencing analyses identified in the patient a heterozygous KCND3 c.1256G>A (p.R419H) variant predicted to be disease-causing by multiple bioinformatic analyses. In vitro biochemical and immunofluorescence examinations revealed that, compared to the human KV4.3 wild-type channel, the p.R419H variant exhibited normal protein abundance and subcellular localization pattern. Electrophysiological investigation, however, demonstrated that the KV4.3 p.R419H variant was associated with a dominant increase in potassium current amplitudes, as well as notable changes in voltage-dependent gating properties leading to enhanced potassium window current. These observations indicate that, in direct contrast with the loss-of-function KCND3 mutations previously reported in cerebellar ataxia patients, we identified a rare gain-of-function KCND3 variant that may expand the clinical and molecular spectra of neurodegenerative cerebellar disorders associated with brain iron accumulation.  相似文献

Recently, Sun et al. (Quantum Inf Process:14:2125-2133, 2015) proposed a quantum private comparison protocol allowing two participants to compare the equality of their secrets via a malicious third party (TP). They designed an interesting trap comparison method to prevent the TP from knowing the final comparison result. However, this study shows that the malicious TP can use the statistics attack to reveal the comparison result. A simple modification is hence proposed to solve this problem.  相似文献

According to accident statistics for Taiwan, the two most common traffic accident locations in urban areas are roadway segments and intersections. On roadway segments, most collisions are due to drivers not noticing the status of leading vehicle. At intersections, most collisions are due to the other driver failing to obey traffic signs. Using a driving simulator equipped with a collision warning system, this study investigated driving performance at different accident locations and between different alarm contents, and identified the relationship between crash occurrences and driving performance. Thirty participants, aged 20-29 years, were recruited in this study. Driving performance measures were perception-reaction time, movement-reaction time, speed and a crash. Experimental results indicated that due to different demands for processing information under different traffic conditions, driving performance differed at the two traffic accident locations. On a roadway segment, perception-reaction time for a beep was shorter than the time for a speech message. Nevertheless, at an intersection, a speech message was a great help to drivers and, thus, perception-reaction time was effectively reduced. In addition, logistic regression analysis indicates that perception-movement time had the greatest influence on crash occurrence.  相似文献
