Isotype-specific antibody responses to foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) were measured in the sera and upper respiratory tract secretions of vaccinated and susceptible cattle challenged with FMDV by direct contact or by intranasal inoculation. A comparison was made between cattle that eliminated FMDV and those that developed and maintained a persistent infection. Serological and mucosal antibody responses were detected in all animals after challenge. IgA and IgM were detected before the development of IgG1 and IgG2 responses. IgM was not detected in vaccinated cattle. Challenge with FMDV elicited a prolonged biphasic secretory antibody response in FMDV "carrier' animals only. The response was detected as FMDV-specific IgA in both mucosal secretions and serum samples, which gained statistical significance (P < 0.05) by 5 weeks after challenge. This observation could represent the basis of a test to differentiate vaccinated and/or recovered convalescent cattle from FMDV "carriers'. 相似文献
With the ever-increasing growth of the World Wide Web, there is an urgent need for an efficient information retrieval system
that can search and retrieve handwritten documents when presented with user queries. However, unconstrained handwriting recognition
remains a challenging task with inadequate performance thus proving to be a major hurdle in providing robust search experience
in handwritten documents. In this paper, we describe our recent research with focus on information retrieval from noisy text
derived from imperfect handwriting recognizers. First, we describe a novel term frequency estimation technique incorporating
the word segmentation information inside the retrieval framework to improve the overall system performance. Second, we outline
a taxonomy of different techniques used for addressing the noisy text retrieval task. The first method uses a novel bootstrapping
mechanism to refine the OCR’ed text and uses the cleaned text for retrieval. The second method uses the uncorrected or raw
OCR’ed text but modifies the standard vector space model for handling noisy text issues. The third method employs robust image
features to index the documents instead of using noisy OCR’ed text. We describe these techniques in detail and also discuss
their performance measures using standard IR evaluation metrics. 相似文献
CAPTCHAs (completely automated public Turing test to tell computers and humans apart) are in common use today as a method for performing automated human verification online. The most popular type of CAPTCHA is the text recognition variety. However, many of the existing printed text CAPTCHAs have been broken by web-bots and are hence vulnerable to attack. We present an approach to use human-like handwriting for designing CAPTCHAs. A synthetic handwriting generation method is presented, where the generated textlines need to be as close as possible to human handwriting without being writer-specific. Such handwritten CAPTCHAs exploit the differential in handwriting reading proficiency between humans and machines. Test results show that when the generated textlines are further obfuscated with a set of deformations, machine recognition rates decrease considerably, compared to prior work, while human recognition rates remain the same. 相似文献
Researchers have thus far focused on the recognition of alpha and numeric characters in isolation as well as in context. In this paper we introduce a new genre of problems where the input pattern is taken to be a pair of characters. This adds to the complexity of the classification task. The 10 class digit recognition problem is now transformed into a 100 class problem where the classes are {00,…, 99}. Similarly, the alpha character recognition problem is transformed to a 26×26 class problem, where the classes are {AA,…, ZZ}. If lower-case characters are also considered the number of classes increases further. The justification for adding to the complexity of the classification task is described in this paper. There are many applications where the pairs of characters occur naturally as an indivisible unit. Therefore, an approach which recognizes pairs of characters, whether or not they are separable, can lead to superior results. In fact, the holistic method described in this paper outperforms the traditional approaches that are based on segmentation. The correct recognition rate on a set of US state abbreviations and digit pairs, touching in various ways, is above 86%. 相似文献
The fine structure and cellular associations of the large pigment cells (LPC's) of the compound eye of the house fly were studied with high voltage and conventional electron microscopy. Depending on the sector of the compound eye, the facets are either rectangular or hexagonal. The underside of each facet has indentations exactly aligned with those on top into which inserts an angulated sleeve of LPC's. Under the rectangular lens facet 6 or 8 small compact (in cross section) LPC's join four elongate LPC's. Clusters of compact cells alternate in this ring with elongate ones. Compact cells compress together and become quadrangular (in cross section) several microns below their insertion into the lens and form "building block" corners while elongate cells form "side rails" for the rectangular type of distal pseudocone enclosure. Beneath hexagonal facets all LPC's are rather elongate with out corner cells. In both facet types LPC's enclose the pseudocone for a longitudinal distance of 4 mum and then are displaced as bordering cells by a sleeve of two corneal pigment cells (CPC's), each of which encloses half of the proximal pseudocone. For the following 6 mum of longitudinal distance these concentric sleeves of CPC's and LPC's form a double layer around the pseudocone. At about 10 mum below lens base the two sleeves separate; LPC's become attenuated and extend cable-like to the basement membrane and CPC's enclose the proximal pseudocone, Semper cells and distal retinula. The junction between lens and LPC's has critical structural value in that (1) this is the sole anchorage to the lens by the lengthy remainder of the ommatidium, and (2) LPC's enclose the semiliquid pseudocone in the most distal portion of the pseudocone. In addition to vertical support, the LPC's send out numerous lateral processes that make structural contact among themselves, with the corneal pigment cells and the photoreceptor cells. The structural features of this array are discussed relative to possible physiological roles. 相似文献
The present work is dedicated to the comparative experimental study of biodiesel-ethanol blends in a compression ignition engine using TiO2 (Titanium oxide) nanoparticle, ZrO2 (Zirconium oxide) nanoparticle and DEE (Diethyl ether) additives. The test fuels used are a blend of biodiesel (80%) -ethanol (20%) (denoted as BE), a blend of BE with 25 ppm Titanium oxide nanoparticle (denoted as BE-Ti), a blend of BE with 25 ppm Zirconium oxide nanoparticle (denoted as BE-Zr) and a blend of BE with 50 ml Diethyl ether (denoted as BE-DEE). Addition of nanoparticles increases the oxidation rate, reduces the light-off temperature and creates large contact surface area with the base fuel thereby enhancing the combustion with minimal emissions. Experimental results shown that addition of Titanium nanoparticles increased NOx, HC and smoke with lowered BSFC and CO. Whereas addition of Zirconium nanoparticles increases BSFC and HC emissions with lowered CO, CO2 and smoke emissions in comparison with BE blends. DEE addition to BE blends improved the heat release rate and increased HC, CO emissions were observed with lowered BSFC, NOx and smoke. Simultaneous reduction of NOx and smoke indicates the effect of DEE on Low temperature combustion (LTC).
The influence of the acid treatment on cyclohexanone selectivity of phenol hydrogenation over Pd on active carbon was studied in liquid phase reaction and by temperature-programmed desorption. Acid treatment of activated carbon led to an increased cyclohexanone/cyclohexanol ratio. Acid modification of the carbon support enriched the electron density of Pd, and enhanced the desorption of the phenoxy species, which resulted in improved cyclohexanone selectivity in phenol hydrogenation. 相似文献
The state-of-the-art density functional theory (DFT) is employed to study the catalytic activity of arsenene for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). We have included dispersion correction to get accurate adsorption energy on the individual catalytic surface (top site). Using binding energy calculation, arsenene is shown to be a potential candidate for HER. Here we investigate the stability and electronic properties of the honeycomb structure of the arsenene system using first-principles calculation to find the effect of different dopants on the fundamental band gap, which is one of the primary parameters in the photocatalytic water splitting. Further, we sieved the dopant for better HER catalytic activity by substituting one of the arsenene (As) atoms by B, N, O, Ge, Ga and Se atoms to make arsenene a better candidate for HER. Our studies depict that HER activity is increased by 82% for O-doped arsenene and OER activity by 87% for B-doped arsenene as compared to pristine arsenene. 相似文献
Food allergies affect 6 to 8% of children and 2% of adults in the United States. For reasons that are not clear, eight types of food account for a vast majority (approximately 90%) of food-induced hypersensitivity reactions. In this study, C57Bl/6 mice were used to test the hypothesis that commonly allergenic foods are intrinsically more immunogenic than rarely allergenic or nonallergenic foods in allergy-susceptible hosts. Groups of mice (n = 4 to 5) were injected intraperitoneally with the protein extracts (plus alum as an adjuvant) from chicken eggs, peanuts, almonds, filberts-hazelnuts, walnuts, soybeans, and wheat (commonly allergenic foods) and coffee, sweet potatoes, carrots, white potatoes, cherries, lettuce, and spinach (rarely allergenic and nonallergenic foods). Primary and secondary immune responses (as measured by specific IgG1 antibody serum levels) were measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Proteins from peanuts, almonds, filberts, sweet potatoes, cherries, and spinach elicited robust primary and/or secondary immune responses. Proteins from eggs, walnuts, and lettuce elicited poor primary responses but significant secondary responses. In contrast, wheat, soybeans, coffee, carrots, and white potatoes elicited barely detectable to poor primary and secondary immune responses. The order of the immunogenicity levels of these foods in mice is as follows: almonds = filberts > spinach (Rubisco) > peanuts > or = sweet potatoes > cherries > lettuce > walnuts > chicken eggs > carrots > or = white potatoes > wheat = coffee = soybeans. In summary, these data demonstrate for the first time that: (i) foods vary widely with regard to their relative immunogenicity in allergy-susceptible hosts and (ii) intrinsic immunogenicity in mice does not distinguish commonly allergenic foods from rarely allergenic or nonallergenic foods. 相似文献
