Hollow fibers spun from synuietic fiber forming polymers have been of interest, especially for producing high-bulk, low-density fabrics. Such fibers produced from a high temperature resistant polymer provide a number of advantages in certain applications. Ultem, a polyetherimide resin marketed by General Electric company, is a copolymer with ether molecules between imide groups and is thermoplastic. Being an amorphous thermoplastic polyimide, the Ultem resin combines the high performance associated with exotic specialty polymers and the good processability of typical engineering plastics. Equipment was built at the Air Force Research Laboratory of Edwards AFB, CA to spin hollow fibers. The spinneret designed has a hollow tube supported in the center of the orifice, and an inert gas is injected through the needle to maintain the tubular shape until the solidification of the fiber. Using that set-up, fibers were spun from Ultem under several different conditions. Effect of some of the processing conditions on the evolution of structure and properties during hollow fiber formation is discussed.  相似文献

Two filter designs for adaptive least mean squares (LMS) filtering with sigma-delta modulated input signals are described. One implementation is multibit multiplier-free and operates entirely at the oversampling frequency of the sigma-delta signals, in the other design only the FIR filter operates at the oversampled frequency while the adaptive filtering algorithm is performed at the Nyquist rate. To circumvent any aliasing problems that may be caused by the downsampling process in the architecture and ensure convergence of the adaptive FIR filter. It is necessary to attenuate the high-frequency sigma-delta quantisation noise that is present. To perform this task a multiplier-free, multistage IIR filter structure is used that requires considerably fewer computations than an equivalent FIR filter. The two adaptive LMS filter designs are analysed and their performance is compared with a conventional PCM system in terms of achievable minimum MSE and adaptation speed  相似文献

The present study examined working memory for what, where, and when information in rhesus monkeys (Macaca mulatta) using a computerized task. In Experiment 1, monkeys completed three delayed matching-to-sample (DMTS) tasks: (1) identity DMTS, (2) spatial DMTS, and (3) temporal DMTS. In Experiment 2, the identity and spatial tasks were combined so that monkeys had to report both what and where information about an event. In Experiment 3, the identity, spatial, and temporal tasks were combined to examine what-where-when memory integration. The rhesus monkeys reported all three components of the events, and there was some evidence suggesting that these components were integrated in working memory. Objective: To examine the relationship between mood and blood glucose in a 21-day daily diary study. Design: During a home visit, information was gathered from 206 persons with Type 2 diabetes regarding demographics, disease characteristics and treatment, and depressive symptoms. They had blood drawn at a laboratory, yielding HbA1C. The participants were then telephoned each evening for 21 days and were asked about their positive and negative mood during the past 24 hours. They also tested their blood glucose upon rising in the morning. Main Outcome Measures: The main outcomes measures were positive and negative affect and fasting glucose. Results: Multilevel analyses revealed a relationship between negative affect on one day and morning glucose on the next day. There was no such relationship between positive affect and glucose, nor was there a comparable effect of glucose on one day and either positive or negative affect on the next day. Conclusion: The observed relationship between mood and blood glucose appears to be because of negative affect, not positive, with no evidence of a lagged effect of glucose on mood. While object‐oriented programming offers great solutions for today's software developers, this success has created difficult problems in class documentation and testing. In Java, two tools provide assistance: Javadoc allows class interface documentation to be embedded as code comments and JUnit supports unit testing by providing assert constructs and a test framework. This paper describes JUnitDoc, an integration of Javadoc and JUnit, which provides better support for class documentation and testing. With JUnitDoc, test cases are embedded in Javadoc comments and used as both examples for documentation and test cases for quality assurance. JUnitDoc extracts the test cases for use in HTML files serving as class documentation and in JUnit drivers for class testing. To address the difficult problem of testing inheritance hierarchies, JUnitDoc provides a novel solution in the form of a parallel test hierarchy. Hemodynamic and O2 transport effects of ketamine anesthesia were evaluated in 22 critically ill patients. After placement of radial and pulmonary artery catheters, simultaneous measurement were made of cardiac output, intravascular pressures, arterial and mixed venous gases, saturations, pH, and Hct; cardiorespiratory values then were calculated for a preinduction control period and sequentially at frequent intervals over a 15-min observation period. In general, there was an early progressive increase in HR, cardiac index (CI), arterial and venous pressures, stroke work, and O2 delivery (DO2); O2 consumption (VO2) and O2 extraction (O2 Ext) decreased. In general, ketamine produced an inotropic cardiac response, but these responses were not uniform; a relatively small percentage had reduced pressures, flow, and reduced myocardial performance that were related to hypovolemia and associated medical conditions.  相似文献

Angiotensin II is the effector molecule of the renin-angiotensin system. Virtually all of its biochemical actions are mediated through a single class of cell-surface receptors called AT1. These receptors contain the structural features of the seven-transmembrane, G-protein-coupled receptor superfamily. Angiotensin II, acting through the AT1 receptor, also stimulates the Jak/STAT pathway by inducing ligand-dependent Jak2 tyrosine phosphorylation and activation. Here, we show that a glutathione S-transferase fusion protein containing the carboxyl-terminal 54 amino acids of the rat AT1A receptor physically binds to Jak2 in an angiotensin II-dependent manner. Deletional analysis, using both in vitro protocols and cell transfection analysis, showed that this association is dependent on the AT1A receptor motif YIPP (amino acids 319-322). The wild-type AT1A receptor can induce Jak2 tyrosine phosphorylation. In contrast, an AT1A receptor lacking the YIPP motif is unable to induce ligand-dependent phosphorylation of Jak2. Competition experiments with synthetic peptides suggest that each of the YIPP amino acids, including tyrosine 319, is important in Jak2 binding to the AT1A receptor. The binding of the AT1A receptor to the intracellular tyrosine kinase Jak2 supports the concept that the seven-transmembrane superfamily of receptors can physically associate with enzymatically active intracellular proteins, creating a signaling complex mechanistically similar to that observed with growth factor and cytokine receptors.  相似文献
