Protein biosynthesis in rat liver subcellular fractions with quantitative and qualitative changes in the composition of the carbohydrate component of the diet

The biosynthesis rate of total proteins of liver subcellular fractions was examined in rats kept for 40 days on a high-carbohydrate diet with the use of starch, and sucrose from 14C-lysine incorporation. It was shown that the majority of subcellular fractions with the exception of the microsomal experienced an increase in the rate of protein biosynthesis. Estimation of the protein content in the fractions allows the conclusion that enhancement of biosynthesis in membrane fractions of external, internal membranes of mitochondria and lysosomes is linked with the increased rate of renewability, while in the fraction of cytoplasm soluble proteins with induction of numerous enzymes because of the increased energy load.     

Effect of splenic cells sensitized with staphylococcal enterotoxin A on the metastasis of Lewis lung carcinoma in mice

The effect of intact mouse spleen cells sensitized in vitro with staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin A (SEA) on spreading of mouse Lewis carcinoma was studied. A significant decrease in a number of metastases in the lungs and in the weight of the lungs was observed after multiple intrapulmonary inoculation of spleen cells treated with SEA for 6 hours. The effect was less marked after inoculation of the sensitized cells intraperitoneally or into the femoral muscle of the leg affected with the tumour. After multiple inoculations of the sensitized cells, the spleen cells of the treated animals develop the state of interferon hyporeactivity to SEA but not to PHA or NDV.     

In vitro determination of the sensitivity of lung tumors to different drugs

The in vitro sensitivity of 193 lung tumour specimens to anticancer agents was investigated using the short-term culture method. It is shown that there are many anticancer drugs with correlative effectiveness. It often concerns preparations with different mechanism of action. Using the in vitro sensitivity test data of correlative effectiveness it is possible not only to investigate the activity of new synthesized compounds and well known preparations but also to draw poly-chemotherapy schemes with these agents in relatively short time.     

Changes in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism in rabbits with a limited mobility and an excess sacharose consumption

Under restricted motor activity an excess of the introduced saccharose is used not for replenishment of the spent energy which, judging by the glycolysis level, was less marked than in controls, but rather for maintaining the synthetic processes, being, first of all, incorporated in glucose-aminoglycanes. At the same time, the activity of the pentophosphate way of the carbohydrates assimilation increased in the brain, liver and heart and in consequence of this the cholesterol and triglycerides content rose in the blood serum and liver. The triglycerides concentration in the aorta proved to be lowered.     

Mechanisms, kinetics and specificity of the leukocyte adherence inhibition test in breast cancer

The simplified micromodification of the leukocyte adhesion inhibition (LAI) test has shown that the LAI tests both for lymphocytes and for leukocytes may be equally used as additional methods of diagnostics of the early stages of breast cancer. The detailed study of the kinetics and cellular mechanisms of the method has shown that the LAI reaction belongs to the earliest reactions of T-cellular immunity and is mediated by T-cell lymphokine. The study of sensitivity and specificity of the method revealed that the suggested micromodification of the LAI test may be used in experimental and clinical research for the study of the subpopulation of T-cells-producers of the LAI factor as well as for monitoring of the T-cell immunity in the cancer patients during treatment.     

Potential for using a protein-based enteral feeding formula as nutrient mixtures in transintestinal nutrition

Chronic experiments on semi-fistula dogs with temporal-isolated parts of the small bowel were made to study the rate of nitrogen, glucose, lipid, sodium, potassium, calcium and water absorption from protein enteral nutrition and nutritive mixtures prepared on its basis. It was established that a nutritive mixture based on 10% protein enteral nutrition with additives in the form of fatty emulsion and sodium chloride was quite suitable for transintestinal administration. The increase of the concentration of protein enteral nutrition administered transintestinally or its preliminary hydrolysis by gastric juice resulted in the enhancement of evacuatory function of the small bowel.     

The expression of antigens, detectable with ICO-series monoclonal antibodies, on the surfaces of cells forming granulocyte and macrophage colonies in semiliquid agar

The expression of antigens on granulocyte-macrophagal colony-forming cells of patients with nonhematological diseases was studied. Treatment of bone marrow cells with murine monoclonal antibodies ICO-1 and ICO-11 led to statistically significant inhibition of the number of growing colonies. Monoclonal antibodies ICO-02, ICO-10, ICO-GM-1 and ICO-G-2 had no such effect.     

The effect of a lipid food component on enzymatic activity of rat liver endoplasmic reticulum upon the action of polychlorinated biphenyls

The authors have studied the character of changes in the content of cytochrome P450 and b5, in the oxidation rate of amidopyrine, dimethyl-aniline and aniline, in the NADPH- and ascorbate-dependent lipid peroxidation systems, as well as in glucose-6-phosphatase and acetylesterase activities in the liver microsomes of the rats on semisynthetic diets, including 50% (according to calorific value) of butter or sunflower oil, or receiving fat-free diet (0.5% of sunflower oil) in different terms (4 and 70 days) after a single intragastric administration of a mixture of polychlorinated diphenyls, chlorinated biphenyl (500 mg/kg). It is shown that the degree and character of the microsomal enzymes studied, as well as the changes in the liver structure under the action of chlorinated biphenyl depend, to a certain extent, on the quality and quantity of fat in the diet.     

Standardization of ICO-G2 monoclonal antibodies against X-hapten

Results obtained from comparative analysis of ICO-G2 monoclonal antibody with some standard CD 15 monoclonal antibodies (FMC-11, TG-1, G-2, B-3-4) and with MG-1, MG-3, MG-5, MG-6 monoclonal antibodies (Prague) performed by flow cytometry on FACS 440 instrument (Becton Dickinson) indicate that all monoclonal antibodies have a similar reactivity and may identify the same X-haptene structure (also known as Lex) included into the differentiation cluster as CD15.     

Electron microscopy study of experimental stomach cancer

Electron microscopic examination of the MNNG-induced gastric cancer revealed cytodifferentiation processes in it. Transformation of gastric epithelium under the effect of MNNG at the submicroscopic and cell levels is investigated. The model is shown to be adequate to human gastric cancer.
