Eroded sediment and coarse organic material were sampled for a year at the outlet of the study catchment in central Japan to investigate characteristics of 137Cs loss and to quantify erosional 137Cs loss in a forested headwater catchment. Results showed that loss of both eroded sediment and 137Cs varied markedly according to the magnitude of rainfall events. About 90% of the total sediment delivery and the total 137Cs loss was associated with only two storm rainfall events. The significant contribution of high-magnitude-low-frequency storm events to 137Cs loss from the catchment was emphasized. To quantify the contribution of erosional 137Cs loss to 137Cs cycling, the current mean 137Cs inventory of the study catchment was estimated from direct measurements of 137Cs in soil cores collected from 27 points. The input of 137Cs through litterfall to the soil was estimated from monitoring the annual litterfall of the study catchment. The present 137Cs fallout input was estimated from published 137Cs fallout data. Consequently, the loss of 137Cs associated with eroded sediment was estimated to represent 0.013% of the 137Cs inventory of the study catchment, which is comparable to the input through litterfall. The equivalent value for 137Cs runoff with coarse organic material was estimated as 0.0003%. Therefore, the effect of 137Cs loss in association with coarse organic material on estimates of erosion rate obtained by measuring 137Cs inventories in soil core samples was inferred to be negligible in Japanese cypress plantations. Results confirm the applicability of 137Cs measurements to estimate erosion rates in other relatively stable forested areas.  相似文献

To study the ecology of ammonia-oxidising bacteria (AOB), quantitative techniques are essential. Real-time PCR assays based on the 16S rRNA or on the structural amoA gene are routinely used. The CTO primer set rooted on the 16S rRNA gene has a number of mismatches with some of the cultures of AOB. To examine if these mismatches have an effect on the outcome of real-time PCR assays, the assay was tested with DNA from a number of closely related isolates of AOB. Standard curves of known amounts of initial DNA were similar among most of the tested cultures of AOB, except for the standard curves of Nitrosomonas strain AL212 and Nitrosospira strain NpAV. Nitrosomonas strain AL212 had 3 mismatches with the CTO primer set. Adaptation of the CTO primer set in order to perfectly match the Nitrosomonas strain AL212 gave a standard curve similar to the majority of the AOB tested. As Nitrosospira strain NpAV has no mismatches with the original CTO primer set, there must be another reason for the less efficient amplification than the sequence itself. Application of an existing sigmoidal mathematical model gave no other results with respect to the standard curves of Nitrosomonas europaea and Nitrosomonas strain AL212, but also demonstrated that primer mismatches can seriously underestimate the initial target concentration. It was concluded that in general correct interpretation of real-time PCR results requires knowledge of the target community composition, in particular of the target sequences of the dominant community members.  相似文献

We calculated and measured the difference between focal positions of radially and azimuthally polarized beams after passing through a uniaxial crystal. Calculations were carried out on the basis of the ray optics and the vector diffraction theory. The results of the calculations were in good agreement with those of the experiment. In addition, we discussed the polarization selection in a hemispherical laser cavity that was used for the generation of a radially polarized beam by use of the birefringence of a c-cut Nd:YVO4 laser crystal [Opt. Lett. 31, 2151 (2006)]. The stability range of the laser cavity length for the generation of a radially polarized beam was also in good agreement with the differences mentioned above.  相似文献

Bombyx mori silk fibers possess outstanding mechanical properties in spite of being spun at room temperature and from the aqueous solution. Therefore, the mechanism of the structural transition has been studied with great attention, but still not be well understood. In this study the flow simulation of the silk fibroin aqueous solution using finite element method was performed on the basis of both the relationship between the viscosity and shear rate of the silk fibroin solution prepared from the silk gland, and the detailed structure of the spinneret including silk press part of the silkworm obtained from the optical micrographs. The viscosity of the silk fibroin solution decreased with power-law till the shear rate, about 1.5 s−1 with increasing shear rate. Then the viscosity increased reversely which is speculated due to the fiber formation as a result of aggregation of the molecules. In the flow simulation analysis, the initiation site of the fiber formation was calculated by regulating the extrusion pressure. The fiber formation occurs in 550 μm from the spigot at 1 MPa and in 600 μm from the spigot at 50 MPa. The extrusion pressure in the range from 1 MPa to 50 MPa induces the fiber formation in the stiff plates (550-600 μm from the spigot), that is, the silk press part in the spinneret.  相似文献

The residual stresses in the thick part of the stress lattice shape casting consist of the residual stress due to the temperature differential between the thick part and the thin part and the residual stress due to the temperature differential in the radial direction of the thick part. In this study, the gray cast iron stress lattice shape castings were cast and both types of the residual stresses were separately measured. Thermal stress analyses based on the casting experiment were conducted. Next, the measurements in this study were compared with both types of the simulated residual stresses. The thermal stress analyses estimated the residual stress due to the temperature difference in the radial direction of the thick part to be significantly higher than the measurement, although the residual stress due to the temperature difference between the thick part and the thin part was successfully predicted within a 10 pct error. Thus, this study suggested the introduction of the mechanical melting temperature, above which the very low yield stress is applied conveniently to describe the losses of the deformation resistance of the casting, to more accurately predict the residual stress due to the temperature difference in the radial direction of the thick part. From the verification of the suggested model, this study demonstrated that the conventional elasto-plastic model must introduce the mechanical melting temperature to predict the residual stress due to the temperature difference in the radial direction of the thick part and thus the overall residual stress in the stress lattice.  相似文献

Perfluorinated acids (PFAs) and their salts have emerged as an important class of global environmental contaminants. Determination of sub-parts-per-trillion or parts-per-quadrillion concentrations of perfluorinated acids in aqueous media has been impeded by relatively high background levels arising from procedural or instrumental blanks. To understand the role of the oceans in the transport and fate of perfluorinated acids, methods to determine ultratrace levels of these compounds in seawater are needed. In this study, sources of procedural and instrumental blank contamination by perfluorinated acids have been identified and eliminated, to reduce background levels in blanks and thereby improve limits of quantitation. The method developed in this study is capable of detecting perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), perfluorohexanesulfonate (PFHS), perfluorobutanesulfonate (PFBS), perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), perfluorononanoate (PFNA), and perfluorooctanesulfonamide (PFOSA) at low pg/L levels in oceanic waters. PFOA is the major perfluorinated compound detected in oceanic waters, followed by PFOS. Further studies are being conducted to elucidate the distribution and fate of perfluorinated acids in oceans.  相似文献

A contactless power transfer system for electric vehicles must have high efficiency, a large air gap, good tolerance to misalignment in the lateral direction, compactness, and light weight. In this paper, a new 1.5‐kW transformer has been developed using a novel H‐shaped core which is more efficient, more robust to misalignment, and lighter than previous rectangular cores, to satisfy these criteria, and its characteristics are described. An efficiency of 95% was achieved across a 70‐mm mechanical gap. Iron‐loss modeling of the equivalent circuit is also presented. The calculated efficiency using this model shows good agreement with experimental results. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effect of drilling on the permeability of Japanese cedar and the bending properties of resin treated compressed wood were examined. Compressed wood was manufactured by impregnating aqueous phenolic resin solutions into the heartwood through drilled holes and polymerizing the impregnated resins using a hot press to maintain the deformation. The compressive deformation was carried out at 150°C for 1 h to one-half of the original specimen thickness. A dye solution permeated the entire specimen when the density of drilled holes exceeded approximately 5000?holes/m2. When the compressed wood was manufactured under the drilling condition, the resin type was found to greatly affect the bending strength and the failure mode of the specimens in bending test.  相似文献

We investigated and analyzed faults in field installable connection due to incorrectly cleaved fiber ends and manufactured physical contact (PC)-type connectors with contaminated end surfaces in optical access fiber networks. The insertion and return losses of fiber connections using incorrectly cleaved fiber ends might be at worst more than 40 dB and less than 30 dB, respectively. With PC-type connectors whose end surfaces are contaminated, the insertion and return losses might be at worst 8.7 and 27 dB, respectively. We developed an inspection tool for cleaved fiber ends and connector end surfaces as a countermeasure. The proposed tool has a simple structure and does not require focal adjustment. It can be used to inspect and clearly determine whether a fiber has been cleaved correctly and whether there is contamination or scratches on the connector end surfaces. The tool requires a slight increase of 11% in operation time compared to conventional fiber end preparation and assembly procedures. The proposed tool provides a simple and cost-effective way to inspect cleaved fiber ends and connector end surfaces and is suitable for field use.  相似文献
