In this paper, we present a possible approach to use different Grid infrastructures across Europe and India for regional climate simulations and discuss in details the advantages and limitations in using them. The application taken into consideration is the Regional Climate Model RegCM4, which has been recently re-written for making it more efficient and easier to be fully exploited on any kind of computational infrastructure. We describe here the methods applied to port this package on the Grid infrastructures made available by the EU-IndiaGrid project. We also discuss different approaches, the way to run the model on both European and Indian infrastructures and our promising approach to deal with data management issues. Use of RegCM on Grid infrastructure has further been compared with that on HPC resources. The domain worked upon for these tests is the South-Asia CORDEX domain, which is of great importance for the Indian Summer Monsoon. Our final conclusion is that, for certain class of experiments, RegCM4 model can be efficiently and easily integrated on Grid infrastructures, by means of the procedures described in this paper.  相似文献

The effect of Mg-doping and Li overstoichiometry on the structural stability of LiCoO2 powders has been investigated with emphasis to voltammetric properties. Microparticle cyclic voltammetry (CV) conducted in caustic NaOH to best simulate a non-aqueous electrolyte shows a marked improvement of the structure stability of doped LiCoO2. In contrast to the unsubstituted LiCoO2 sample which shows voltammetric peaks associated to the well-known two-phase domain and monoclinic distortion reactions, in Li1.08Mg0.06CoO2, LiMg0.06CoO2 and Li1.08CoO2 samples these peaks are strongly suppressed providing direct evidence for the existence of a stable solid solution with negligible phase transitions in the reversible intercalation region (3.8-4.2 V vs. Li) as well as in the overcharged region. The effect is higher with Mg-doping, irrespective of the Li overstoichiometry. However, the concomitant presence of Mg and Li excess in the structure is important for obtaining small particle sizes. Since Mg-doping induces a quasi metallic behavior in the samples, whereas the Li excess may provide an higher initial capacity, it is suggested that the Li1.08Mg0.06CoO2 composition may be of interest as positive cathode for advanced Li-ion batteries.  相似文献

We investigated cues that mediate the aggregation behavior of immature pentatomid bugs by using nymphs of six different pentatomid bug species (Nezara viridula, Acrosternum hilare, Chlorochroa ligata, Chlorochroa sayi, Thyanta pallidovirens, and Euschistus conspersus). When first instars of any two species were put together in a Petri dish, they readily formed heterospecific aggregations similar to their natural conspecific aggregations. The chemical profiles of first and second instar nymphs of each species were determined by solvent extraction with pentane, followed by GC-MS analysis. Immature bugs of the different species had some compounds in common, and some that were more species specific. Within a species, there were distinct differences in the profiles of compounds extracted from first and second instars. Bugs did not aggregate around untreated polysulfone beads (1 mm diam) that were glued together in groups approximating bug egg masses, suggesting that tactile cues alone were insufficient to induce aggregation. Furthermore, when tested over a range of doses, groups of polysulfone beads treated with crude whole-body extracts of bugs did not induce or maintain aggregations. However, first instar N. viridula nymphs did respond to beads treated with two of the three major components of bug extracts. 4-Oxo-(E)-2-decenal induced significant aggregations at two doses, whereas tridecane, the major component in extracts from all six species, did not, and (E)-2-decenal was repellent. The repellence of (E)-2-decenal may explain why we and previous researchers were unable to induce aggregations of first instar N. viridula using whole-body extracts.  相似文献

PDZ domains represent a large family of protein-interaction modules associated with a variety of unrelated proteins with different functions. We report a complete characterization of the kinetic folding mechanism of a fluorescent variant of PDZ2 from PTP-BL, investigated under a variety of different experimental conditions. For this purpose, we engineered a fluorescent variant of this protein Y43W (called pseudo-wild-type, pWT43). The results suggest the presence of a high-energy intermediate in the folding of PDZ2, as revealed by a pronounced non-linear dependence of the unfolding rate constant on denaturant concentration. Such an intermediate may or may not be detectable depending on the experimental conditions, giving rise to apparent two-state folding under stabilizing conditions (e.g. in the presence of sodium sulfate). Interestingly, even under these conditions, three-state folding can be restored by selectively destabilizing the native-like rate-limiting barrier by one specific mutation (V44A). Finally, we show that data taken on pWT43 under different experimental conditions (e.g. different pH values from 2.1 to 8.0 or in the presence of a stabilizing salt) and also data on a site-directed conservative mutant can be rationalized in terms of a simple reaction scheme involving a single set of intermediates and transition states.  相似文献

Reactivity data related to processes in which molecular receptors promote the reaction of two simultaneously complexed reactants have been surveyed and analyzed in terms of effective molarity (EM). Methods and criteria for the calculation of reliable EM's have been highlighted. Extension of a previous extrathermodynamic treatment of intramolecular reactions of bifunctional chains to the intracomplex reactions of the ternary complexes involved in two-substrate catalyzed reactions has provided a sound framework for a comparative analysis of reactivity and catalytic efficiency in structurally diverse and apparently unrelated systems.  相似文献

Droughts are affecting an increasing number of lotic ecosystems worldwide due to the combined effects of climatic and anthropogenic pressures. Unlike naturally intermittent rivers, where the drying phase is a part of the annual flow regime, water scarcity in Alpine rivers represents a relatively recent phenomenon and, therefore, a major threat for the biodiversity of these lotic ecosystems. However, Alpine stream community response to drought is still poorly investigated. Here, we assess the recovery of macroinvertebrates in two Alpine streams after a supraseasonal drought. As water returned, a total of 10 sampling sessions were carried out, and temporal patterns in diversity, density, and taxonomic composition of benthic communities, as well as in the percentage of functional feeding groups, were investigated. We found that the resistance of invertebrate communities in Alpine streams is generally low: drought markedly reduced the diversity and density of macroinvertebrates. Conversely, our results suggest that the passive dispersal by drift from the upstream river sections seems the most probable mechanism promoting the post‐drought recovery. Nevertheless, this resilience ability appears to be stream specific and influenced by intrinsic stream characteristics, including the flow permanence and distance from the nearest upstream perennial reach. This work sheds light on the ecological consequences of droughts on macroinvertebrate communities. As flow intermittency in Alpine areas is expected to intensify under current global change scenarios, results of this study provide important information to predict changes in the taxonomic composition and diversity of macroinvertebrate communities.  相似文献

In this paper we address the problem of synthesizing mobile robots able to solve problems in which they cannot merely react to sensory input, but have to maintain an internal state as well. More precisely, we shall show how autonomous robots synthesized through an evolutionary process can solve problems that necessarily require an ability to integrate sensorimotor information over time. By presenting the result of a set of experiments in which evolving robots are asked to navigate and self-localize in the environment, we shall show that successful results can be achieved by providing evolving individuals with neural controllers with neurons that: (a) vary their activity at different rates to detect regularities at different time-scales in the sensorimotor flow; and (b) use thresholded activation functions to detect events extending over time.  相似文献
