Polymeric nanocomposites were synthesized from functionalized soybean‐oil‐based polymer matrix and montmorillonite (MMT) clay using an in situ free radical polymerization reaction. Acrylated epoxidized soybean oil combined with styrene was used as the monomer. Organophilic MMT (OrgMMT) was obtained using a quaternized derivative of methyl oleate, which was synthesized from olive oil triglyceride, as a renewable intercalant. The resultant nanocomposites were characterized using X‐ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy. The effect of increased nanofiller loading on the thermal and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites was investigated using thermogravimetric analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis. It was found that the desired exfoliated nanocomposite structure was achieved when the OrgMMT loading was 1 and 2 wt%, whereas a partially exfoliated or intercalated nanocomposite was obtained for 3 wt% loading. All the nanocomposites were found to have improved thermal and mechanical properties as compared with virgin acrylated epoxidized soybean‐oil‐based polymer matrix. The nanocomposite containing 2 wt% OrgMMT clay was found to have the highest thermal stability and best dynamic mechanical performance. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Olive oil production is an important economical activity in the Aegean region of Turkey. However, the effluents of the olive oil producing mills with their high organic loads and toxic compounds are causing serious environmental problems. The anaerobic biological treatment of olive mill wastewater (OMWW) using the treatment plants of the regional industries could be a method of choice and within the scope of this study floccular and granular sludges were investigated in batch mode for their success in the treatment of OMWW while producing biogas. The major limitation of this treatment is the inhibition of methanogenic bacteria by the phenolic compounds in OMWW. Thus an integrated solution was suggested in which a pre‐treatment step (dephenolization) was also introduced before biological step. RESULTS: The effluents of 27 olive mills out of 47 were found to have total phenolics (TP) less than 3 g L?1 and could be treated anaerobically after simple dilution. The biogas production for the untreated OMWW was higher for floccular sludge than for the granular sludge (68.5 mL and 45.7 mL respectively). Combined pre‐treatment experiments, first coagulation with polyaluminum chloride, followed by flocculation with cationic polyelectrolyte and finally Fenton's oxidation, could remove 80% of TP and 95% of the total suspended solids. CONCLUSION: OMWW having TP values less than 3 g L?1 can be treated anaerobically using floccular sludge after simple dilution and biogas can be produced. The 6 km tunnel under the Namntall hill is a part of the Botniabanan railway project in northern Sweden. The tunnels were excavated by means of drilling and blasting and with, for Scandinavian conditions, a normal grouting routine. The grouting is performed to reduce water ingress into the tunnel to the level defined in the contract. When the water ingress requirements proved difficult to meet, it was obvious that the geological and the hydrogeological conditions in the tunnel would dictate the work processes. A distinctive change in rock conditions influenced both grouting performance and seepage into the tunnel. The rock conditions and the grouting were quantified throughout the project and these are summarized in this paper. It can be concluded that the strongest correlation is between the water ingress, the hydrogeological conditions and the density of the zones and the conditions in and around these zones. The paper suggests a different approach to hydrogeological prognosis and the grouting process, such as distribution of grouting classes, increased mixer capacities and regular use of two grouting rounds. 相似文献

This article on partnering and family‐resemblance makes two contributions to the debate about the definition of partnering in construction. The first is a distinction between general prerequisites, components and goals when discussing the concept. In order to understand what is specific about partnering the focus should be on the components, which are identified through a literature review. The second contribution is to apply Ludwig Wittgenstein's idea of family‐resemblance to the partnering concept. His idea is that a complex concept can be understood as a network of overlapping similarities. From the literature review it is concluded that there are two necessary components in partnering – trust and mutual understanding – and that a number of different components can be added to form a specific variant of partnering. This provides a new method to define the vague and multifaceted concept of partnering in a flexible and structured way. 相似文献

Experimental results of two-phase pressure drop in a horizontal circular microchannel are reported in this paper. A test tube was made of fused silica having an internal diameter of 781 μm with a total length of 261 mm and a heated length of 191 mm. The outer surface of the test tube was coated with an electrically conductive thin layer of ITO (indium tin oxide) for direct heating of the test section. Refrigerants R134a and R245fa were used as the working fluids, and mass flux during the experiments was varied between 100 and 650 kg/m2-s. Experiments were performed at two different system pressures corresponding to saturation temperatures of 25°C and 30°C for R134a and at three different system pressures corresponding to saturation temperatures of 30°C, 35°C, and 40°C for R245fa. Two-phase frictional pressure drop characteristics with variation of mass flux, vapor fraction, saturation temperature, and heat flux were explored in detail. Finally, the prediction capability of some well-known correlations available in the literature, some developed for macrochannels and others especially developed for microchannels, was assessed. 相似文献

Transition zones between structures as bridges or box culverts frequently present higher degradation rates compared to the remaining railway. This paper presents a numerical model for the dynamic loads on the ballast caused by trains passing a transition. The model was validated with field data obtained from an extensive field survey conducted in two transition zones in the Netherlands. Results show that the forces on the ballast vary significantly both in time and space on a transition, especially with the appearance of voids under the sleepers. Implications of the results on the long-term behaviour of transition zones are presented. 相似文献

The results of experimental investigations of novel ceramic high-temperature heat exchangers (HTHE) and its main characteristics such as effectiveness and power load as a function of mass flow and the geometry of the channels are presented. Firstly, some information on the background and the manufacturing of the HTHE, which is based on honey comb structures made out of extruded silicon carbide, is given. The experimental tests have been carried out with air as a heat transfer medium at temperatures of up to 1000 °C. The experimental set-up is described in detail. The acquired characteristic temperature and effectiveness data for different inlet temperatures and mass flows are discussed. They have been compared with data from theoretical calculations as well as with characteristic data of typical counter flow heat exchangers. Additionally, thermal shock tests have been carried out for a qualitative testing of the mechanical strength. Finally, a conclusion and an outlook on further activities are given. 相似文献

The purpose of this study is to develop a diagnostic system to detect the severity of traumatic brain injuries using artificial neural networks. Three layered back propagation neural network with an input layer of 10 nodes whose output providing the inputs to a hidden layer was used. Thirty-two patients with traumatic brain injuries in different age and gender were taken in the study. Electroencephalography, Trauma and Glasgow coma scores were used for evaluating the data. The results obtained from the system were compared with the findings of neurologists. We found a significant relationship between the findings of neurologists and systems output for normal, mild, moderate and severe electroencephalography tracing data. Getting this system in routine use will lead to make a rapid decision for the degree of trauma with electroencephalography and revised trauma score. 相似文献

In this study, the silicate nanotubes of the mineral halloysite will be used as reinforcement in polyamide-6 (PA 6). The nanocomposites based on PA-6 and as-received halloysite were prepared by melt extrusion and an adjacent injection moulding process. Mechanical and thermomechanical properties have been investigated by tensile testing and dynamic mechanical analysis. The results show an increased strength and stiffness as well as an enhanced elongation at break at low halloysite content. To evaluate the potential of halloysite as a new candidate in the class of nanofillers, the properties of the halloysite nanocomposites has been compared to those of conventional nanocomposites based on organically modified montmorillonite. From this comparison it can be seen, that both types of nanocomposites show enhanced tensile properties as well as an increased storage modulus, but the increase in tensile strength is more pronounced in the organoclay nanocomposites, whereas the raise of the storage modulus is more prominent in the halloysite nanocomposites. 相似文献
