Shape-from-shading (SFS) aims to reconstruct the three-dimensional shape of an object from a single shaded image. This article proposes an improved framework based on belief propagation for computing SFS. The implementation of the well-known brightness, integrability and smoothness constraints inside this framework is shown. We implement the constraints as probability density functions. For example, the brightness constraint is a two-dimensional probability density function that relates all possible surface gradients at a pixel to their probability given the pixel intensity. A straightforward extension of the framework to photometric stereo is presented, where multiple images of the same scene taken under different lighting conditions are available. The results are promising, especially since the solution is obtained by iteratively applying simple operations on a regular grid of points. The presented framework therefore can be implemented in parallel and is a reasonably likely biological scheme.  相似文献

Embodied cognition suggests that complex cognitive traits can only arise when agents have a body situated in the world. The aspects of embodiment and situatedness are being discussed here from the perspective of linear systems theory. This perspective treats bodies as dynamic, temporally variable entities, which can be extended (or curtailed) at their boundaries. We show how acting agents can, for example, actively extend their body for some time by incorporating predictably behaving parts of the world and how this affects the transfer functions. We suggest that primates have mastered this to a large degree increasingly splitting their world into predictable and unpredictable entities. We argue that temporary body extension may have been instrumental in paving the way for the development of higher cognitive complexity as it is reliably widening the cause-effect horizon about the actions of the agent. A first robot experiment is sketched to support these ideas.We continue discussing the concept of Object-Action Complexes (OACs) introduced by the European PACO-PLUS consortium to emphasize the notion that, for a cognitive agent, objects and actions are inseparably intertwined. In another robot experiment we devise a semi-supervised procedure using the OAC-concept to demonstrate how an agent can acquire knowledge about its world. Here the notion of predicting changes fundamentally underlies the implemented procedure and we try to show how this concept can be used to improve the robot’s inner model and behaviour. Hence, in this article we have tried to show how predictability can be used to augment the agent’s body and to acquire knowledge about the external world, possibly leading to more advanced cognitive traits.  相似文献

This paper discusses approaches for the isolation of deep high aspect ratio through silicon vias (TSV) with respect to a Via Last approach for micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). Selected TSV samples have depths in the range of 170…270 µm and a diameter of 50 µm. The investigations comprise the deposition of different layer stacks by means of subatmospheric and plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) of tetraethyl orthosilicate; Si(OC2H5)4 (TEOS). Moreover, an etch-back approach and the selective deposition on SiN were also included in the investigations. With respect to the Via Last approach, the contact opening at the TSV bottom by means of a specific spacer-etching method have been addressed within this paper. Step coverage values of up to 74 % were achieved for the best of those approaches. As an alternative to the SiO2-isolation liners a polymer coating based on the CVD of Parylene F was investigated, which yields even higher step coverage in the range of 80 % at the lower TSV sidewall for a surface film thickness of about 1000 nm. Leakage current measurements were performed and values below 0.1 nA/cm2 at 10 kV/cm were determined for the Parylene F films which represents a promising result for the aspired application to Via Last MEMS-TSV.  相似文献

A new approach is introduced for turbidite modeling, leveraging the potential of computational fluid dynamics methods to simulate the flow processes that led to turbidite formation. The practical use of numerical flow simulation for the purpose of turbidite modeling so far is hindered by the need to specify parameters and initial flow conditions that are a priori unknown. The present study proposes a method to determine optimal simulation parameters via an automated optimization process. An iterative procedure matches deposit predictions from successive flow simulations against available localized reference data, as in practice may be obtained from well logs, and aims at convergence towards the best-fit scenario. The final result is a prediction of the entire deposit thickness and local grain size distribution. The optimization strategy is based on a derivative-free, surrogate-based technique. Direct numerical simulations are performed to compute the flow dynamics. A proof of concept is successfully conducted for the simple test case of a two-dimensional lock-exchange turbidity current. The optimization approach is demonstrated to accurately retrieve the initial conditions used in a reference calculation.  相似文献

In the first part of this article, we analyze the relation between local image structures (i.e., homogeneous, edge-like, corner-like or texture-like structures) and the underlying local 3D structure (represented in terms of continuous surfaces and different kinds of 3D discontinuities) using range data with real-world color images. We find that homogeneous image structures correspond to continuous surfaces, and discontinuities are mainly formed by edge-like or corner-like structures, which we discuss regarding potential computer vision applications and existing assumptions about the 3D world. In the second part, we utilize the measurements developed in the first part to investigate how the depth at homogeneous image structures is related to the depth of neighbor edges. For this, we first extract the local 3D structure of regularly sampled points, and then, analyze the coplanarity relation between these local 3D structures. We show that the likelihood to find a certain depth at a homogeneous image patch depends on the distance between the image patch and a neighbor edge. We find that this dependence is higher when there is a second neighbor edge which is coplanar with the first neighbor edge. These results allow deriving statistically based prediction models for depth interpolation on homogeneous image structures.  相似文献

Some clinical applications, such as surgical planning, require volumetric models of anatomical structures represented as a set of tetrahedra. A practical method of constructing anatomical models from medical images is presented. The method starts with a set of contours segmented from the medical images by a clinician and produces a model that has high fidelity with the contours. Unlike most modeling methods, the contours are not restricted to lie on parallel planes. The main steps are a 3D Delaunay tetrahedralization, culling of non-object tetrahedra, and refinement of the tetrahedral mesh. The result is a high-quality set of tetrahedra whose surface points are guaranteed to match the original contours. The key is to use the distance map and bit volume structures that were created along with the contours. The method is demonstrated on computed tomography, MRI and 3D ultrasound data. Models of 170,000 tetrahedra are constructed on a standard workstation in approximately 10s. A comparison with related methods is also provided.  相似文献

Sparse nonlinear classification and regression models in reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces (RKHSs) are considered. The use of Mercer kernels and the square loss function gives rise to an overdetermined linear least-squares problem in the corresponding RKHS. When we apply a greedy forward selection scheme, the least-squares problem may be solved by an order-recursive update of the pseudoinverse in each iteration step. The computational time is linear with respect to the number of the selected training samples.  相似文献

Free binary decision diagrams (FBDDs) are graph-based data structures representing Boolean functions with the constraint (additional to binary decision diagram) that each variable is tested at most once during the computation. Summary First the problem is solved how one can decide whether an arbitrary finite semigroup H is linearly A-realizable, i.e., whether there exists a linearly realizable finite automaton having a semigroup isomorphic to H. This leads to a question about the existence of certain generating subsets of H. The determination of these subsets is rather complicated in case H-HH=Ø and very simple in case H-HH#Ø. But in the first case we are able to clear up completely the structure of the semigroups which are linearly A-realizable: These are exactly the finite right groups which have maximal subgroups of the type described by Ecker in [4]. In the second case we get only necessary structure conditions. Among other things we shall see: If a semigroup H is linearly A-realizable one can define a congruence relation on it having the property, that H is isomorphic to a semigroup of a strongly connected and linearly realizable automaton iff the so-called index of H equals the index of H/. Developing these results about semigroups we obtain at the same time many structure theorems about linearly realizable automata.  相似文献
