Abstract

The use of ceramic thin films as decoupling capacitors offers the possibility of capacitor integration within the integrated circuit (IC) package, and potentially, directly onto the IC itself. Since these configurations minimize series inductance, higher operational speeds are possible. In the present study we have investigated the dielectric and leakage characteristics of sol-gel PZT films. For compositions near the morphotropic phase boundary, dielectric constants of 1000, and loss tangents of about 0.02, were observed. The current-voltage behavior of the capacitors was characterized by a non-linear response, and significant asymmetry in both the leakage and breakdown characteristics as a function of bias sign was observed. Breakdown fields for PZT 53/47 thin films were typically ~800 kV/cm at 25°C. We have also studied the effects of La and Nb dopant additions and alternate firing strategies on film leakage characteristics. Donor doping at 2–5 mol% lowered leakage currents by a factor of 103 For films prepared by a multilayering approach, firing each layer to crystallization resulted in leakage currents that were a factor of 102 lower than films prepared by the standard process.  相似文献

The general structure of double-heterojunction diode lasers is shown to be consistent with the required geometry of the Shockley diode or p-n-p-n switch. When the two devices are combined in a single structure, there results an extremely simple source of high optical power (>0.5-W) pulses of very short duration (<10 ns) without the need for a complex external driver. In principle, pulse triggering and repetition rate are easily controlled, suggesting that the device has potential application in pulse-coded optical communication systems.  相似文献

Aluminum brazed joints are used extensively in the automotive and aircraft industries. In order to insure the integrity of the bond, the effects of processing variables on the quality of the bond must be understood. The effects of brazing period and joint thickness on the microstructure, tensile properties, microhardness and micromechanisms of failure of two aluminum alloy 3003 plates connected by a layer of 4047 aluminum filler material were investigated. It was found that the amount of aluminum-silicon eutectic microstructure in the reaction zone decreased with increasing brazing period and decreasing joint thickness. This was attributed to silicon diffusion from the joint material and dissolution of base metal and its entrance into the liquid joint. The amount of shrinkage porosity in the reaction zone was found to increase with increasing brazing period due to base material solutioning. The ultimate tensile strength of joints decreased with increasing brazing period and decreasing joint thickness. This was attributed to the joint microstructure and shrinkage porosity formed in the joint. Shrinkage porosity was found to be the primary cause of decreased joint strength. Joints with 10 minutes brazing period failed within the base material, while for brazing periods greater than 10 minutes, joints failed within the aluminum-silicon eutectic microstructure of the reaction zone. This indicated that the joint strength was greater than the base material for joint with brazing period of 10 minutes. Finite element analysis was performed to determine the effect of joint material yield strength and joint thickness on the stress and strain field in the brazed joint. Finite element analysis results supported experimental observations.  相似文献

In 3 studies, the authors demonstrated that individuals are motivated by role models who encourage strategies that fit their regulatory concerns: Promotion-focused individuals, who favor a strategy of pursuing desirable outcomes, are most inspired by positive role models, who highlight strategies for achieving success; prevention-focused individuals, who favor a strategy of avoiding undesirable outcomes, are most motivated by negative role models, who highlight strategies for avoiding failure. In Studies 1 and 2, the authors primed promotion and prevention goals and then examined the impact of role models on motivation. Participants' academic motivation was increased by goal-congruent role models but decreased by goal-incongruent role models. The relative effects of varied interviewee cues on line managers' hiring decisions were examined, as was the relative predictability of various criteria by line managers' interview impressions. Aggregate and individual regression analyses revealed that 3 nursing directors' impressions of 186 nursing applicants shaped their hiring recommendations more than did the applicants' resume credentials. Moreover, managers' interview impressions significantly predicted employees' job attitudes, though predictions of attitudes did not exceed predictions of performance. Finally, individual managers based hiring decisions on different interview impressions, and these impressions forecast employees' job attitudes with differential validity. Progesterone acts on the estradiol (E2)-conditioned human endometrium to induce decidualization of stromal cells. Consistent with these differential hormone actions in vivo, progestins regulate several end points of decidualization in human endometrial stromal cell monolayers, and E2 augments the effects of progestin. This study shows that in vitro decidualization of the stromal cells is accompanied by diminished plasminogen activator (PA) expression. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoretic separation after immunoprecipitation of biosynthetically labeled PAs revealed that medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) lowered levels of secreted tissue type PA (tPA) at 67 kilodaltons and urokinase type PA (uPA) at 55 kilodaltons. These levels were reduced further by E2 plus MPA despite a lack of response to E2 alone. Although tPA activity was readily measured by a chromogenic assay, detection of uPA activity required prior activation, indicating that uPA is released as the pro-uPA zymogen. Comparisons of levels of immunogenic PAs, as measured by specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, with the corresponding catalytic activities revealed selective progestational inhibition of PA activity vs. antigen after 3 days of experimental incubation. Thus, 10(-7) mol/L MPA produced about a 2-fold greater reduction of levels of PA activity than that of its corresponding antigen. More strikingly, 10(-8) mol/L E2 plus 10(-7) mol/L MPA virtually eliminated both tPA activity (99% inhibition; P < 0.005) and uPA activity (93% inhibition; P < 0.005); the reductions in levels of the corresponding antigens were only about 50% of the control levels and did not attain statistical significance. Only after 3-6 days of incubation with E2 plus MPA was statistically significant inhibition achieved for immunogenic levels of both tPA (P < 0.05) and uPA (P < 0.005). Preferential inhibition of levels of PA activities compared with those of the corresponding PA antigens reflects the action of the potent PA inhibitor PAI-1. Thus, the concentration of PAI-1 in the stromal cell-conditioned medium at the end of 0-3 days exceeded those of tPA and uPA, respectively, by 28- and 12-fold in response to MPA and by 52- and 25-fold in response to E2 plus MPA. Extrapolation of these in vitro results to the events of the luteal phase, whose steroidal milieu is mimicked by E2 plus MPA, indicates that decidual cell-derived PAI-1 is a key regulator of proteolytic degradation of extracellular matrix and fibrinolysis during implantation and menstruation.  相似文献

Donor doping, with La and Nb, has been used successfully to improve the leakage resistance of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT) films. Donor doping of Pb(Zr0.5Ti0.5)O3 films has led to an improvement in the leakage resistance of over 2 1/2 orders of magnitude at elevated temperatures (T 100°C). The effect on leakage resistance is the same for the A-site (La) and B-site (Nb) dopants. However, the improvement is only about 1 order of magnitude near room temperature. This temperature effect is due to an increase in the transition temperature from a low activation energy mechanism to a higher activation energy mechanism. Similar improvements in leakage resistance have also been obtained by increasing the Pb concentration in the starting solution, which implies that Pb vacancies are the dominant acceptor species in the undoped films. In addition, donor doping has been effective in improving the electrical breakdown strength at elevated temperatures. Consequently, donor-doped PZT films have been shown to be superior to undoped films for applications requiring high leakage resistance, such as decoupling capacitors.  相似文献

We quantify relations between rates of in situ denitrification and saturated infiltration through shallow, sandy soils during managed groundwater recharge. We used thermal methods to determine time series of point-specific flow rates, and chemical and isotopic methods to assess denitrification progress. Zero order denitrification rates between 3 and 300 μmol L(-1) d(-1) were measured during infiltration. Denitrification was not detected at times and locations where the infiltration rate exceeded a threshold of 0.7 ± 0.2 m d(-1). Pore water profiles of oxygen and nitrate concentration indicated a deepening of the redoxocline at high flow rates, which reduced the thickness of the zone favorable for denitrification. Denitrification rates were positively correlated with infiltration rates below the infiltration threshold, suggesting that for a given set of sediment characteristics, there is an optimal infiltration rate for achieving maximum nitrate load reduction and improvements to water supply during managed groundwater recharge. The extent to which results from this study may be extended to other managed and natural hydrologic settings remains to be determined, but the approach taken in this study should be broadly applicable, and provides a quantitative link between shallow hydrologic and biogeochemical processes.  相似文献
