Twelve dressing systems made by varying protein type, oil level, CaCl2, NaCl, and sucrose, were examined using scanning electron microscopy. Images from the 12 systems were quantitatively analysed using methods of feature extraction. These methods were based on vectorisations of the images followed by principal component analysis on the extracted vectors. These techniques were used to examine the reproducibility of the acquired images as well as to relate the images to rheologic and sensory texture parameters. Two feature extraction methods were used: the angle measure technique (AMT) and the absolute difference method (ABDF). The ABDF method used fewer principal components to extract information from images relevant to the complex modulus/sensory viscosity of the system, but the information seemed equally well preserved by the two-feature extraction methods. The AMT was more efficient in classifying the images with respect to protein type. A fair correlation between images and complex modulus was obtained (R=0.73). It is suggested that a better correlation might be obtained by adding more systems, increasing the number of areas imaged for each system as well as avoiding systems of low viscosity. 相似文献
Electrically conducting mesoporous antimony doped tin oxide was functionalized by the metalorganic reaction with several Grignard reagents. This fast and efficient grafting approach enables a direct connection of the metal atoms with the organic functionalities avoiding the formation of insulating Si–O linkers, which is of special interest for the interfacial charge transfer processes. Using this approach we introduced vinyl, allyl and phenyl groups into the pores of mesoporous ATO, which was confirmed by IR spectroscopy, TGA and nitrogen sorption measurements. We obtained a high loading of organic groups corresponding to about 50–60% of the monolayer surface coverage. The obtained mesoporous inorganic–organic hybrids can serve as a platform for incorporation of electrochemically active species. 相似文献
Based on literature review, a non-potable urban grey water reuse standard is proposed and the treatment alternatives and reuse scheme for grey water reuses are evaluated according to grey water characteristics and the proposed standard. The literature review shows that all types of grey water have good biodegradability. The bathroom and the laundry grey water are deficient in both nitrogen and phosphors. The kitchen grey water has a balanced COD: N: P ratio. The review also reveals that physical processes alone are not sufficient to guarantee an adequate reduction of the organics, nutrients and surfactants. The chemical processes can efficiently remove the suspended solids, organic materials and surfactants in the low strength grey water. The combination of aerobic biological process with physical filtration and disinfection is considered to be the most economical and feasible solution for grey water recycling. The MBR appears to be a very attractive solution in collective urban residential buildings. 相似文献
The formation of nanostructures with controlled size and morphology has been the focus of intensive research in recent years. Such nanostructures are important in the development of nanoscale devices and in the exploitation of the properties of nanomaterials. Here we show how tree-like nanostructures ('nanotrees') can be formed in a highly controlled way. The process involves the self-assembled growth of semiconductor nanowires via the vapour-liquid-solid growth mode. This bottom-up method uses initial seeding by catalytic nanoparticles to form the trunk, followed by the sequential seeding of branching structures. Each level of branching is controlled in terms of branch length, diameter and number, as well as chemical composition. We show, by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, that the branching mechanism gives continuous crystalline (monolithic) structures throughout the extended and complex tree-like structures. The controlled seeding method that we report here has potential as a generic means of forming complex branching structures, and may also offer opportunities for applications, such as the mimicking of photosynthesis in nanotrees. 相似文献
In-air epitaxy of nanostructures (Aerotaxy) has recently emerged as a viable route for fast, large-scale production. In this study, we use small-angle X-ray scattering to perform direct in-flight characterizations of the first step of this process, i.e., the engineered formation of Au and Pt aerosol nanoparticles by spark generation in a flow of N2 gas. This represents a particular challenge for characterization because the particle density can be extremely low in controlled production. The particles produced are examined during production at operational pressures close to atmospheric conditions and exhibit a lognormal size distribution ranging from 5–100 nm. The Au and Pt particle production and detection are compared. We observe and characterize the nanoparticles at different stages of synthesis and extract the corresponding dominant physical properties, including the average particle diameter and sphericity, as influenced by particle sintering and the presence of aggregates. We observe highly sorted and sintered spherical Au nanoparticles at ultra-dilute concentrations (< 5 × 105 particles/cm3) corresponding to a volume fraction below 3 × 10–10, which is orders of magnitude below that of previously measured aerosols. We independently confirm an average particle radius of 25 nm via Guinier and Kratky plot analysis. Our study indicates that with high-intensity synchrotron beams and careful consideration of background removal, size and shape information can be obtained for extremely low particle concentrations with industrially relevant narrow size distributions.

The effects of chemical (CD) and surgical (SD) deafferentation of the cerebellum on different steps of the metabolism of thiamine (Th), thiamine monophosphate (ThMP) and thiamine pyrophosphate (ThPP) were evaluated in vivo in rats. CD was carried out by i.p. injection of 3-acetylpyridine, followed by harmaline and niacinamide. SD was carried out by complete dissection of the peduncles of the left cerebellar hemisphere. Under steady state condition the radioactivity of Th and its phosphoesters was determined in plasma and whole cerebellum after an i.p. injection of thiazole-[2(14)C]-thiamine (30 micrograms:1.25 micro Ci). Analytical data were processed by using an improved mathematical compartmental model, which allowed the calculation of fractional rate constants (FRC), turnover rates (TR) and turnover times (TT). Both CD and SD caused a significant reduction of TR values for Th phosphorylation to ThPP, dephosphorylation of ThPP to ThMP and Th, and ThMP, but not Th, release. TT for all Th compounds were increased compared to controls, indicating a general slowing of thiamine metabolism in the deafferented cerebellum. These results indicate an imbalance in the thiamine metabolism resulting from the impaired activity of cerebellar neurons. The possible implications of the changes in rate of Th compound turnover with respect to biochemical changes in cerebellar ataxia are discussed. 相似文献
