Age Related Development of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme in Testes and Epididymis of Rat

ACE wurde in den Hoden und in verschiedenen Bereichen des Nebenhodens der Ratte unterschiedlichen Alters untersucht. Die ACE-Aktivität erreichte ihren Gipfel, wenn die Tubuli seminiferi die Spermatozoenproduktion des Erwachsenenstadiums aufwiesen; sie pendelte sich auf dieser Höhe danach ein. Die Spitzenkonzentration im Nebenhoden wurde später beobachtet als im Hoden. Der Konzentrationsgrad im Nebenhoden war proportional zum Grad der Spermatozoenreifung und zur Fertilität; die höchste ACE-Aktivität im Nebenhoden fand sich im Kopfbereich.     

CLINICAL EVALUATION OF DIAZEPAM FOR RELIEF OF POSTOPERATIVE PAIN

A double-blind trial was undertaken to compare the effects oftrimeprazine tartrate (2mgkg^–1 or 4mgkg^–1) plusatropine 0.03mgkg^–1 for oral preinedication of 192 childrenundergoing tonsillectomy. Demeanour before operation, side-effectsafter operation, recovery times and fluid balance were studied.Behaviour in the anaesthetic room and restlessness after operationwere unaffected by the dose given. There was less vomiting associatedwith 4mgkg^–1 compared with 2mg kg^–1. Prolonged recoverytimes occurred frequently in the two groups, 14% in the small-and 17% in the large-dose groups taking more than 10 h to recoverfull mental faculties. Fluid bal4nce was unaffected by the doseand prolonged recovery did not result in a reduction of urineoutput. Trimeprazine tartrate is not recommended for routinepremedication when early recovery is required.     

MYXOMA OF THE TRICUSPID VALVE

Myxomas of the intraventricular cavity are extremely rare, and those of right ventricular origin are the least frequent. Only three cases of myxoma of the tricuspid valve have so far been reported. In this communication a myxoma of the tricuspid valve in a 23-year-old woman is reported because of its unusual and interesting clinical presentation and the extreme rarity of this lesion.
