The on-chip microcapillary applying for electrophoresis analysis device has been fabricated on photosensitive glass. This process can make a high aspect-ratio channel structure. The channel-depth can be controlled by varying wet-etching time without widening the channel width because the substrate material has vertical high etch rate selectivity. This high aspect-ratio structure obtains a long optical path and appropriate sample volume resulting in high-sensitivity for various analyses. The fabrication process is simpler than a usual glass micromachining process because of photo-resistless lithography process. In order to smooth the channel surface and to attach a cover glass onto the substrate, a polysilazane coating process is proposed and revealed to be effective. We are indebted to Dr. N. Sawanobori (SUMITA OPTICAL GLASS, INC., Japan) for photosensitive glass and Dr. T. Ishikawa (TONEN CORPORATION, Japan) for polysilazane. They have given valuable advice for fabrication process in this study. Mesoporous Au films consisting of a network of interconnected Au ligaments around ultra-large pores were found to exhibit a promising electrocatalytic activity towards sluggish reactions. Mesoporous Au films with pore sizes up to 25 nm were successfully fabricated using a polymeric micelle approach. A superior catalytic activity of the mesoporous Au films towards methanol oxidation was confirmed, which was thoroughly analyzed and compared with that of other Au materials. An intrinsic investigation on the high catalytic activity revealed that the superior performance of the as-prepared mesoporous Au film was related to its unique atomic structures around the mesopores with well-crystallized facets and several step/kink sites on the Au surfaces. These findings showcase a strategic and feasible design for preparing highly active Au-based catalysts that could be used as promising candidates in electrocatalytic applications.

This paper proposes an adaptive rendering technique for ray‐bundle tracing. Ray‐bundle tracing can be done by per‐pixel linked‐list construction on a GPU rasterization pipeline. This rasterization based approach offers significant benefits for the efficient generation of light maps (e.g., hardware acceleration, tessellation, and recycling of shaders used in real‐time graphics). However, it is inapplicable to large and complex scenes due to the limited capacity of the GPU memory because it requires a high‐resolution frame buffer and high‐capacity node buffer for the linked‐lists. In addition, memory overflow can potentially occur on the per‐pixel linked‐list since the memory usage of the lists is usually unknown before the rendering process. We introduce an adaptive tiling technique with memory usage prediction. Our method uses an appropriately tiled frame buffer, thus eliminating almost all of the overflow risks thanks to our adaptive tile subdivision scheme. Using this technique, we are able to render high‐quality light maps of large and complex scenes which cannot be computed using previous ray‐bundle based methods.  相似文献

Recently, composite insulators have been increasingly employed mainly for economic reasons. We have developed a new type of outdoor termination using a composite insulator, which can be installed horizontally on a steel tower in order to reduce the construction cost. In this outdoor termination, SF6 gas is filled in the composite insulator and a cold shrinkable premolded rubber unit is applied instead of the combined use of a rubber‐molded stress relief cone, epoxy resin insulator and spring unit. The application of the composite insulator, SF6 gas and cold shrinkable premolded rubber unit reduces the total weight and makes it possible to install the termination horizontally on the tower. The new‐type outdoor termination for 77‐kV XLPE cable has already been applied in commercial use and enabled a reduction of the construction costs for power transmission lines. A 154‐kV new‐type outdoor termination has been developed and its initial electrical tests were successfully completed. This paper describes the design and performance of both 77‐kV and 154‐kV new‐type outdoor termination, and a follow‐up survey of the 77‐kV new termination in a commercial use. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To clarify the relationship between apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease (APE/Ref-1), a multifunctional protein in the DNA base excision repair pathway, and delayed neuronal cell death associated with apoptosis, we examined the expression of APE/Ref-1 before and after transient global ischemia in rats. METHODS: Global ischemia was induced by bilateral common carotid artery occlusion and hypotension. Expression of the APE/Ref-1 protein was evaluated by Western blot and immunohistochemical analyses. Apoptosis after global ischemia was observed by DNA electrophoresis and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated uridine 5'-triphosphate-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining. RESULTS: Immunohistochemistry showed the nuclear expression of APE/Ref-1 in the control brains. Nuclear immunoreactivity of APE/Ref-1 was significantly decreased 2 days after 10 minutes of ischemia in the hippocampal CA1 subregion. Western blot analysis of a sample from the normal brains showed a characteristic 37-kDa band, which was reduced in the hippocampal CA1 subregion after ischemia. A significant amount of DNA fragmentation was observed at 3 days but not at 1 day after ischemia. Double staining with APE/Ref-1 and TUNEL clearly showed that the neurons that lost APE/Ref-1 immunoreactivity became TUNEL positive. CONCLUSIONS: Our data provide evidence that APE/Ref-1 decreased in hippocampal CA1 neurons after transient global ischemia and that this reduction precedes DNA fragmentation, which is destined to cause apoptosis. Our results suggest the possibility that a decrease of APE/Ref-1 activity and the failure of DNA repair may underlie the mechanism of apoptosis after transient focal ischemia.  相似文献

Titania micropatterns with periodic arrangements were successfully formed on glass substrates for use with electromagnetic wave energy resonance and localizations in terahertz frequency ranges. Geometric arrangements of acrylic polygonal tablets with titania particle dispersions were fabricated by using micropatterning stereolithography. Moreover, periodically arranged full anatase‐phase titania tablets were created homogeneously through liquid‐phase crystal depositions of water solvent processes, using microtemplates fabricated by using the stereolithography system. The terahertz wave properties were measured and calculated by using a time‐domain spectroscopic system and finite‐difference time‐domain method.  相似文献

Acidic hydrothermal degradation of glucose was examined in the presence of HCl, H2SO4, and H3PO4 with pH varying from 1.5 to 2.5 and reaction time varying from 1 to 10 min at 523 K, to investigate the effect of different acid catalysts and acid concentration on the production of 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (HMF) and levulinic acid from glucose. At lower acidities of pH 2.5, a considerably higher amount of HMF was produced. The increase in acid concentration accelerated the conversion of HMF to levulinic acid. The order for the production of HMF using the three acids is in the sequence of H3PO4 > H2SO4 > HCl. On the contrary, the order for production of levulinic acid follows HCl > H2SO4 > H3PO4. In the experimental conditions used in this study, the highest yield of levulinic acid is about 55%, which was obtained at pH 1.5 for 5 min in the case of HCl as an acid catalyst, and the total highest yields of HMF and levulinic acid are about 50%, which occurred at pH 2.0 for 5 min in the case of H3PO4 as an acid catalyst.  相似文献

An effective strategy is highly desirable for preventing acute kidney injury (AKI) to chronic kidney disease (CKD) transition. Thioredoxin-1 (Trx), a redox-active protein that has anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties, would be a candidate for this but its short half-life limits its clinical application. In this study, we examined the renoprotective effect of long-acting Trx that is comprised of human albumin and Trx (HSA-Trx) against AKI to CKD transition. AKI to CKD mice were created by renal ischemia-reperfusion (IR). From day 1 to day 14 after renal IR, the recovery of renal function was accelerated by HSA-Trx administration. On day 14, HSA-Trx reduced renal fibrosis compared with PBS treatment. At the early phase of fibrogenesis (day 7), HSA-Trx treatment suppressed renal oxidative stress, pro-inflammatory cytokine production and macrophage infiltration, thus ameliorating tubular injury and fibrosis. In addition, HSA-Trx treatment inhibited G2/M cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in renal tubular cells. While renal Trx protein levels were decreased after renal IR, the levels were recovered by HSA-Trx treatment. Together, HSA-Trx has potential for use in the treatment of AKI to CKD transition via its effects of modulating oxidative stress and inflammation.  相似文献

The daily variation in an intensity of kaolin-induced writhing reaction was examined in mice kept under conditions of light; 07:00 - 19:00 and dark; 19:00 - 07:00. The number of writhes was counted for 30 minutes after a single intraperitoneal injection of kaolin at 00:00, 02:00, 04:00, 06:00, 08:00, 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00, 20:00 and 22:00. The number of writhes showed a daily variation with a peak at 18:00 and a trough at 06:00. The intensity of writhing reaction was significantly reduced by pretreatment with the bradykinin B1 (Des-Arg9-[Leu8]-BK) and B2 (icatibant) receptor antagonists. Significant daily variation in this parameter was still observed in the group with the B1 antagonist, but disappeared in the B2 antagonist-treated group. These results suggest that the kaolin-induced writhing reaction shows the daily variation with a peak at the end of the resting period and a trough at the end of the active period. The B2 receptor mediated stimuli appears to be involved in this phenomenon.  相似文献

This paper describes the effects of magnetic field on rolling contact performance of steel/steel disc couple and presents an investigation into the mechanisms governing these effects by applying contact mechanics and magnetism theory.The tests were carried out in disc-on-disc contact configuration under 1.1 T [Tesla] of horizontal static magnetic fields created by permanent magnets in three different orientations.Wear amounts were decreased in the magnetic fields and there was difference in magnetic field orientation. For the characteristic of the surface, results of scanning electron microscope observations point out that finer wear particles and smoother worn surfaces are produced in the presence of magnetic field. The smoother surfaces are also confirmed by surface roughness measurements. For the generation of the finer wear particles, it is considered that subsurface crack initiation point is moved toward the surface due to magnetic field.The effect of magnetic field is considered by calculating the number of cycles required to generate wear particles and the cycle was reduced due to the presence of magnetic field.It is considered, from views of contact mechanics and magnetism theory, that domain walls near the contact region are caught by dislocations when the specimen is magnetised and part of the energy for magnetisation activates the dislocation movement resulting in crack initiation.  相似文献
