Metamaterials are artificially structured media with unit cells much smaller than the wavelength of light. They have proved to possess novel electromagnetic properties, such as negative magnetic permeability and negative refractive index. This enables applications such as negative refraction, superlensing and invisibility cloaking. Although the physical properties can already be demonstrated in two-dimensional (2D) metamaterials, the practical applications require 3D bulk-like structures. This prerequisite has been achieved in the gigahertz range for microwave applications owing to the ease of fabrication by simply stacking printed circuit boards. In the optical domain, such an elegant method has been the missing building block towards the realization of 3D metamaterials. Here, we present a general method to manufacture 3D optical (infrared) metamaterials using a layer-by-layer technique. Specifically, we introduce a fabrication process involving planarization, lateral alignment and stacking. We demonstrate stacked metamaterials, investigate the interaction between adjacent stacked layers and analyse the optical properties of stacked metamaterials with respect to an increasing number of layers. 相似文献

Inhibition of the enzyme catechol O-methyltransferase offers a therapeutic handle to regulate the catabolism of catecholamine neurotransmitters, providing valuable assistance in the treatment of CNS disorders such as Parkinson's disease. A series of ribose-modified bisubstrate inhibitors of COMT featuring 2'-deoxy-, 3'-deoxy-, 2'-aminodeoxy-3'-deoxy-, and 2'-deoxy-3'-aminodeoxyribose-derived central moieties and analogues containing the carbocyclic skeleton of the natural product aristeromycin were synthesized and evaluated to investigate the molecular recognition properties of the ribose binding site in the enzyme. Key synthetic intermediates in the ribose-derived series were obtained by deoxygenative [1,2]-hydride shift rearrangement of adenosine derivatives; highlights in the synthesis of carbocyclic aristeromycin analogues include a diastereoselective cyclopropanation step and nucleobase introduction with a modified Mitsunobu protocol. In vitro biological evaluation and kinetic studies revealed dramatic effects of the ribose modification on binding affinity: 3'-deoxygenation of the ribose gave potent inhibitors (IC50 values in the nanomolar range), which stands in sharp contrast to the remarkable decrease in potency observed for 2'-deoxy derivatives (IC50 values in the micromolar range). Aminodeoxy analogues were only weakly active, whereas the change of the tetrahydrofuran skeleton to a carbocycle unexpectedly led to a complete loss of biological activity. These results confirm that the ribose structural unit of the bisubstrate inhibitors of COMT is a key element of molecular recognition and that modifications thereof are delicate and may lead to surprises. 相似文献

Optimization of Arc-Sprayed Ni-Cr-Ti Coatings for High Temperature Corrosion Applications 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
High Cr content Ni-Cr-Ti arc-spray coatings have proven successful in resisting the high temperature sulfidizing conditions found in black liquor recovery boilers in the pulp and paper industry. The corrosion resistance of the coatings is dependent upon the coating composition, to form chromium sulfides and oxides to seal the coating, and on the coating microstructure. Selection of the arc-spray parameters influences the size, temperature and velocity of the molten droplets generated during spraying, which in turn dictates the coating composition and formation of the critical coating microstructural features—splat size, porosity and oxide content. Hence it is critical to optimize the arc-spray parameters in order to maximize the corrosion resistance of the coating. In this work the effect of key spray parameters (current, voltage, spray distance and gas atomizing pressure) on the coating splat thickness, porosity content, oxide content, microhardness, thickness, and surface profile were investigated using a full factorial design of experiment. Based on these results a set of oxidized, porous and optimized coatings were prepared and characterized in detail for follow-up corrosion testing. 相似文献

Wavelength-graded emission from a visible red GaInP-AlGaInP laser diode array has been achieved with the contradirectional surface-mode coupling technique. The wavelength control is attained by postgrowth adjustment of the thickness of the surface waveguide. The horizontal cavity lasers show both edge and surface emission (beam divergence 0.12°). The thermal red-shift of the wavelength is 0.028±0.002 nm/K. They show single-mode emission with a typical spectral linewidth of 0.09 nm and a sidemode suppression ratio up to 29 dB. This paper discusses the design and characterization of a new, single-axis, low-profile, piezo-driven vertical motion micropositioning stage for use in laser welding applications. A low-profile configuration is attained by mounting the piezo actuator horizontally and using a novel lever arrangement to transfer the horizontal motion of the actuator into the desired vertical motion. An analytical model for the static and dynamic behavior of the stage is presented, along with finite element (FE) modeling verification. A 200 μm motion-range stage was built, and tests show that the stage has a vertical stiffness of 6.0 N/μm and a resonance frequency of 364 Hz.
