A systematic study on Raman spectroscopy of carbon fibers, both experimental and commercial, has been undertaken. The objectives of this study are to (i) use the Raman spectra of carbon fibers to quantify the degree of chemical bonding and interdiffussion across the fiber–matrix interface, and (ii) to characterize interfacial debonds. Key experimental results include: (i) spectra from the same location of a fiber, repeated thrice, (ii) spectra from three different locations of a particular fiber, (iii) spectra from the same location of a fiber as a function of laser power, and (iv) comparison of the spectra of commercial fibers (AS4), manufactured at Hercules, Inc. (presently Hexel), Magna, with those of the experimental fibers, produced in a more controlled laboratory environment at the Hercules Research Center, Wilmington, DE. In the present investigation, the experimentally determined crystallite size (inversely proportional to the ratio of the relative intensities of the Raman peaks corresponding to the week (A1g) and strong (E2g) modes) is correlated to the deformation and stress states in the vicinity of the circumferential tip of a fiber–matrix interfacial debond under the combined mode I/II. The experimental results obtained by means of Raman spectroscopy in combination with a three-dimensional eigenfunction approach can provide a powerful tool for characterization of interfacial debond nucleation and propagation in real-life carbon fiber/polymer matrix composites.  相似文献

Linear thermal expansion coefficient, dielectric data and transition temperature of KH2PO4-H3BO3 binary are reported. The transition temperature obtained from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is in concurrence with the dielectric and thermal expansion data. Further, this transition is classified as first order. Thermal expansion coefficients and enthalpy values of the binary are reported and compared with the data of pure KH2PO4.  相似文献

We consider array languages (sets of picturesconsisting of symbols placed in the lattice points of the 2D grid) and thepossibility to handle them with P systems. After proving binary normal formsfor array matrix grammars (which, even in the case when no appearance checking isused, are known to generate the array languages of arbitrary array grammars), weprove that the P systems with context-free rules (with three membranes and no control on the communication or the use of rules) are computationally universal, able togenerate all computable array languages. A microchip protocol for the capillary electrophoresis separation and electrochemical detection of thiol-containing degradation products of V-type nerve agents is described. The microchip assay relies on the derivatization reaction of 2-(dimethylamino)ethanethiol (DMAET), 2-(diethylamino)ethanethiol (DEAET), and 2-mercaptoethanol (ME) with o-phthaldialdehyde in the presence of the amino acid valine along with amperometric monitoring of the isoindole derivatives. Both off-chip and on-chip derivatization reactions have led to highly sensitive and rapid detection of the thiol degradation products. Various parameters influencing the derivatization, separation, and detection processes were examined and optimized. These include the amino acid co-reagent, reagent-mixing ratio, reaction time, injection time, separation voltage, and detection potential. The chip microsystem offers a rapid (<4 min) simultaneous detection of micromolar concentrations of DMAET, DEAET, and ME. Linear calibration plots were observed for the V-type nerve agent thiol degradation products, along with good stability and reproducibility (RSD < 8.0%). Detection limits of 5 and 8 microM were obtained for the off-chip reaction of DMAET and DEAET, respectively, following a 2-s injection. The suitability for assays of environmental matrixes was demonstrated for the determination of DMAET and DEAET in untreated tap and river water samples. The favorable analytical performance makes the new microfluidic device attractive for addressing the needs of various security scenarios.  相似文献

Combustion produced soot is highly variable in its composition and nanostructure, both of which are dependent upon combustion conditions. Quantification of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images for nanostructure parameters shows that soot nanostructure is dependent upon its source. In principle, this permits identification of the soot and its contribution to any pollution monitoring receptor site. Many structural and chemical aspects are subtle, unaccounted for in direct nanostructure quantification. The process of pulsed laser annealing is demonstrated to enhance slight differences in nanostructure and chemical composition. Chemistry-based limitations imposed due to nanosecond heating and microsecond cooling timescales highlight these initial compositional and structural differences—as dependent upon source-specific formation conditions. This study demonstrates laser-based heating as an analytical tool for soot differentiation by formation conditions/source by identifying operational parameters for optimal derivatization. Nanostructure changes are qualitatively shown using HRTEM and quantified using image-based fringe analysis for real and model soots.

Mycotoxin-producing fungi are a significant source of crop and food contamination, posing a significant threat to global food safety and security. Essential oils, plant extracts and phytochemicals have emerged as green preservatives to extend the shelf-life of foods due to their unique antimicrobial properties. Unlike conventional synthetic preservatives, they are a sustainable and safe way to preserve food with no or little harmful effects on the environment. Use of nanoformulations containing essential oils and phytochemicals offer enormous potential as a mitigation strategy to lower mycotoxin contamination incidences in food and crop with enhanced release behaviour to efficiently transport them to the target location for a rapid reaction without much impact from environmental variables. Hence, this review overviews various essential oils and phytochemicals utilized through nanoformulations to control the mycotoxigenic fungi, probable mechanism of actions involved as well as emerging mycotoxins and associated safety concerns to ensure food sustainability.  相似文献

Blueberries, a functional food, are rich in bioactive polyphenols and anthocyanins. However, the shelf life is short and requires cold storage. This study provides evidence that edible foxtail millet flour (FMF) efficiently sorbs only blueberry bioactive components (polyphenols and anthocyanins) but not sugars, improves their stability and retains the activity. The concentration of blueberry polyphenols and anthocyanins sorbed to FMF ranged from 6 to 113 and 4 to 41 mg g?1, respectively. The concentration of bioactive components in one serving of blueberries (73 g) is equivalent to those present in 1.2 g of blueberry‐enriched foxtail millet flour (BFMF). The blueberry bioactive sorbed onto FMF remained stable for at least 16 weeks at 40 °C. BFMF eluates inhibited α‐glucosidase enzyme activity and scavenged the free radicals conferring that blueberry bioactive components in BFMF retained the activity. The sorption process described here provides a practical way of creating low glycemic protein‐rich edible flour enriched with plant bioactive compounds without sugars.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The relationship between gender and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services is an issue for many developing states. This scoping review demonstrates that in Nepal, women bear the major social burden of inadequate WASH services and are under-represented in WASH-related policies and programmes. Four themes emerge: gender and water projects; lack of equal female participation in WASH policy development and implementation; women’s access to water; and menstruation and menstrual hygiene. Major cultural barriers embedded in Nepali society limit women’s access, agency and participation in WASH-related policy and practice.  相似文献
