BACKGROUND: A series of nine conventional and non‐conventional flow‐sheets have been considered for the recovery of uranium from acidic sulfate solution by liquid–liquid extraction with 0.146 mol L?1 Alamine® 336 in kerosene modified with 5% w/w 1‐tridecanol and stripping with a 199 g L?1 Na2CO3 solution. The reference flow‐sheet was a classical counter‐current configuration with four mixers–settlers in the extraction stage and three mixers–settlers in the stripping stage. The others flow‐sheets possessing a total of eight mixers–settlers are unusual combined solvent extraction flow‐sheets with one or two independent extraction stripping loops and with one or two feed inlets. RESULTS: The configuration of the flow‐sheets strongly influences the extraction performance of the process depending on the working conditions (feed, stripping and solvent flow rates). The presence of two independent extraction–stripping loops may allow the delay of the saturation phenomenon encountered in the conventional flow‐sheet and thus, to operate at higher feed flow rates without loss of performance, as far as the residual fraction in the raffinate and the concentration factor in the stripping solution are concerned. Furthermore, the presence of a modification in the non‐conventional flow‐sheets with two independent extraction–stripping loops and two feed inlets leads to interesting configurations for uranium recovery from less concentrated solutions, such as heap leach solutions. CONCLUSION: The use of non‐conventional flow‐sheets is interesting as it allows the process of uranium (VI) recovery by liquid–liquid extraction to be improved. The number of mmr‐ and rrm‐based structures which occur necessarily whenever an isotactic or a syndiotactic sequence breaks off respectively; the extent to which they are isolated or are extended to atactic sequences, and the fact that the mmr repeating sequence, especially when it takes the GTTG?TT conformation, is shorter and exhibits greater local free volume than rrm, mmm and rrr sequences, are shown to be the stereochemical composition determining structures in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and polypropylene (PP) polymers. These structures, as analyzed by 13C NMR spectroscopy and probability calculations, have been determined as a function of the overall tacticity for one series of samples prepared by bulk polymerization at temperatures varying from ?50 °C to 70 °C, and one series of samples prepared by polarity‐based fractionation of a commercial polymer. Using this approach, the stereochemical composition of the samples could be identified. The results are of interest to understand the changes in the physical properties as shown in earlier and current work for both series of polymers. © 2003 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The proliferative rate of a tumor has been considered predictive of its clinical course. We evaluated the expression of the proliferative marker Ki-67 and its relationship to survival, disease-free survival and other clinicopathologic variables in both stage I and stage II non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A total of 260 patients with surgically resected stage I (n = 193), and II (n = 67) NSCLC with at least 5 years follow-up were identified. The median survival for patients with low expression of Ki-67 (< or = 25%) was 54 months, while for those with high expression (> 25%), it was 45 months (P = 0.1). The disease-free survival in patients with low expression of Ki-67 was 59 months while it was only 32 months for patients with high Ki-67 (P = 0.1). Out of 136 patients, 84 (62%) had both increased S-phase (> 8%) and high Ki-67 (P = 0.001). A total of 28 of 30 patients who had loss of antigen A had high expression of Ki-67 (93.3%) (P = 0.03). Ki-67 expression was also higher in squamous cell (54/63, 85.7%) compared to nonsquamous cell cancer (70/108, 64%) (P = 0.03). We also analyzed for the presence of symptoms with survival. The presence of symptoms was not found to be statistically significant, for overall survival (P = 0.33) or disease-free survival (P = 0.72). When individual symptoms were analyzed, the presence of cough was statistically significant for both overall and disease-free survival. The median survival was 39 months for patients with cough, and 57 months for patients without cough (P = 0.04). Multivariate analysis showed higher N and T stages, presence of cough and loss of antigen A, predicted for poorer overall survival. Higher N and T stages, loss of antigen A, presence of mucin and cough and increased expression of Ki-67 predicted decreased disease-free survival. Although we did not find a statistically significant difference between low and high Ki-67, there was a trend for a poorer overall and disease-free survival in patients with high Ki-67 expression. Larger studies may be needed to prove a statistically significant effect of Ki-67 on survival. Future studies should assess the potential prognostic significance of the presence of symptoms (particularly cough) in addition to clinical-pathologic variables (such as T and N stage) and biological markers in patients with early stage NSCLC.  相似文献

When administered soon before or after training, glucose facilitates memory in rodents and in several populations of humans, including healthy elderly people. Thus, glucose appears to enhance memory formation in a time- and dose-dependent manner. By assessing the effects of glucose at the time of memory tests, the present experiment examined the role of glucose on memory retrieval in healthy elderly people. On four sessions separated by a week, glucose or saccharin were administered immediately before hearing a narrative prose passage, as in previous experiments, or immediately before being tested for recall of the passage (24 h after training). Subjects recalled significantly more information after glucose ingestion than after saccharin ingestion whether the glucose was given before acquisition or memory tests. In addition, recall was significantly better in the preacquisition glucose condition relative to recall in the retrieval glucose condition. These findings provide evidence that glucose enhances both memory storage and retrieval.  相似文献

Auditory brainstem responses (ABRs) were recorded using pseudo-random pulse trains called maximum-length sequences (MLSs), which allow high stimulus rates and simultaneous recording from both ears, and were compared to ABRs obtained by conventional averaging. In normally hearing subjects, ABRs by MLSs produced the same waves as conventional ABRs, although wave latencies increased and amplitudes decreased. In normal as in sensorineural ears, MLS-ABR thresholds were similar to conventional ABR thresholds (except when binaural recordings were made) and were correlated with high-frequency audiometric thresholds. Binaural MLS-ABR recordings represent the individual response of each ear, as shown by recordings of monaurally deaf subjects.  相似文献

Active cochlear mechanisms and especially outer hair cells seem to be involved in oto-acoustic emissions (OAEs) genesis. This study sought to investigate basic characteristics of spontaneous otoacoustic emissions (SOAEs), click-evoked otoacoustic emissions (TOAEs) and interrelations between SOAEs, TOAEs and 2f1-f2 and 2f2-f1 distortion product OAEs (DPOAEs) in 135 normally hearing subjects. A gender effect was shown on TOAEs and DPOAEs amplitude, and is attributed to the higher incidence of SOAEs in women (58%) than in men (22%). Moreover, SOAEs presence seems to mask the age effect found, especially at high frequency components, on TOAEs amplitude. A general influence of SOAEs on TOAEs and DPOAEs is shown, especially at frequencies ranging from 1 kHz to 3 kHz, collecting more than 66% of the SOAEs peaks recorded. Lastly, correlations between TOAEs frequency band amplitude and 2f1-f2 DPOAEs amplitude, shows frequency specificity, at least at low frequencies (i.e., from 0.5 to 2 kHz) in agreement with previous works suggesting that the 2f1-f2 DPOAEs generation site is at the geometric mean of the primaries. The same correlations calculated with 2f2-f1 DPOAEs amplitude show frequency specificity at low frequencies i.e., at 800 Hz and 1600 Hz. 2f2-f1 DPOAEs in humans are shown to be generated near the 2f2-f1 frequency region on the cochlear partition.  相似文献
