Sulfidic mine tailings have to be classified as one of the major source of hazardous materials leading to water contamination. This study highlights the processes leading to sulfide oxidation and acid mine drainage (AMD) formation in the active stage of two tailings impoundments located in the southern part of the Apuseni Mountains, in Romania, a well-known region for its long-term gold-silver and metal mining activity. Sampling was undertaken when both impoundments were still in operation in order to assess their actual stage of oxidation and long-term behavior in terms of the potential for acid mine drainage generation. Both tailings have high potential for AMD formation (2.5 and 3.7 wt.% of pyrite equivalent, respectively) with lesser amount of carbonates (5.6 and 3.6 wt.% of calcite equivalent) as neutralization potential (ABA=-55.6 and -85.1 tCaCO(3)/1000 t ) and showed clear signs of sulfide oxidation yet during operation. Sequential extraction results indicate a stronger enrichment and mobility of elements in the oxidized tailings: Fe as Fe(III) oxy-hydroxides and oxides (transformation from sulfide minerals, leaching in oxidation zone), Ca mainly in water soluble and exchangeable form where gypsum and calcite are dissolved and higher mobility of Cu for Ribita and Pb for Mialu. Two processes leading to the formation of mine drainage at this stage could be highlighted (1) a neutral Fe(II) plume forming in the impoundment with ferrihydrite precipitation at its outcrop and (2) acid mine drainage seeping in the unsaturated zone of the active dam, leading to the formation of schwertmannite at its outcrop. 相似文献

The pharmacokinetics of the antitoxic and anticarcinogenic compounds diethyldithiocarbamate, prolinedithiocarbamate and sarcosinedithiocarbamate were compared in rats. The bioavailability, the distribution in the organism, the oxidation to thiuramdisulfides, the cleavage to CS2 and the excretion in urine and bile were investigated. The results showed different behaviour of the three compounds. The more toxic diethyldithiocarbamate had a short in vivo half-life, was oxidized to tetraethylthiuramdisulfide in blood, and was metabolized to high yields of CS2 in 24 h. In contrast, prolinedithiocarbamate was more stable in vivo, was found predominantly in the urinary tract and was excreted in urine. The differences could not be explained by the presence of the carboxy group in the latter dithiocarbamate, since sarcosinedithiocarbamate, which also contains a carboxy group, behaved like diethyldithiocarbamate. 相似文献

This paper describes a new method for selective cerebral catheterization based on the Pod catheter [6], [7], guided and propelled by means of external magnetic fields. The principles of the Pod catheter, and the necessary equipment are described, and conclusions are drawn from experiments with a glass model. The immune response to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBS Ag) was studied in 25 asymptomatic carriers by the leukocyte migration-inhibition (LMI) test in agarose. In the presence of purified HBS Ag, inhibition was demonstrated in only four of 25 carriers, in contrast to 24 of 28 patients who cleared the antigen after acute infection with hepatitis B. Tuberculin purified protein derivative (PPD) was also used as an antigen for the LMI test in these carriers. Inhibition was demonstrated in only 12 of 25 individuals who had positive PPD skin tests, in contrast to all of 14 normal noncarrier individuals with positive PPD skin tests and none of 12 normal noncarrier of the asymptomatic carriers gave normal results. The lack of an immune response to HBS Ag was thought to be responsible for the persistence of the antigen and also for the absence of symptoms. 相似文献

In this paper, a scheme for improvement of the regulation of mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) during anesthesia based on model predictive control (MPC) and estimates of the effects of disturbances (surgical events) is proposed. A linear model for the combined effects of surgical stimulations and volatile anesthetics on MAP is derived from experimental data. Based on it the potential improvement in blood pressure regulation is evaluated via a simulation study. The simulation study shows that when information about the effect of the surgical events on MAP is utilized by the controller maximum MAP deviations can be reduced by as much as 50% even when this information is inaccurate. Individual monitoring regulations in Switzerland are based on the ICRP60 recommendations. The annual limit of 20 mSv for the effective dose applies to the sum of external and internal radiation. External radiation is monitored monthly or quarterly with TLD, DIS or CR-39 dosemeters by 10 approved external dosimetry services and reported as H(p)(10) and H(p)(0.07). Internal monitoring is done in two steps. At the workplace, simple screening measurements are done frequently in order to recognise a possible incorporation. If a nuclide dependent activity threshold is exceeded then one of the seven approved dosimetry services for internal radiation does an incorporation measurement to assess the committed effective dose E(50). The dosimetry services report all the measured or assessed dose values to the employer and to the National Dose Registry. The employer records the annually accumulated dose values into the individual dose certificate of the occupationally exposed person, both the external dose H(p)(10) and the internal dose E(50) as well as the total effective dose E = H(p)(10)+E(50). Based on the national dose registry an annual report on the dosimetry in Switzerland is published which contains the statistics for the total effective dose, as well as separate statistics for external and internal exposure. 相似文献

It is shown that extrusion of “FORMGRIP” precursor material prior to baking leads to accelerated foaming and finer, more uniform cell structures. This effect is correlated with microstructural observations made on the precursor materials and on the foams. It is thought that, while extrusion apparently does not extensively fracture the gas‐generating hydride particles, it does induce some damage to their protective surface oxide layers. Bismuth germanate (BGO) calorimeter arrays, consisting of up to 12 elements of 30 × 30 × 200 mm3 have been tested at the CERN PS with pions and electrons of up to 10 GeV/c momentum, and at SIN with pions, electrons and protons up to 450 MeV/c. Both photomultiplier (PM) and photodiode (PD) readouts were used. Accurate calibration in the 100 MeV energy range was achieved with stopping protons, stopping pions and minimum ionizing pions. With 212 MeV electrons and PM readout, a time resolution of the BGO signal of 640 ps fwhm has been measured. The energy resolution for electrons above 1 GeV (PD readout) was found to be roughly constant at σ/E ~ 1%. This is consistent with a negligible intrinsic resolution for BGO at these energies, after taking into account shower leakage and PD noise. For electrons of 92 and 200 MeV, we obtained (PM readout) energy resolutions close to the theoretical limit given by photon statistics and shower leakage. The electron/hadron separation was better than 1:500 over the energy range of 0.5 to 10 GeV, and improved to better than 1:1000 after a simple pattern cut. The energy deposition of the e.m. showers, both laterally and longitudinally (rear leakage), was found to be in agreement at the 0.1% level with Monte Carlo calculations using the SLAC-EGS program. 相似文献
