The commodity model of social support and features of Nondirective Support may clarify varied results of support interventions for smoking cessation. A commodity model views social support as attractive in and of itself and as an alternative to high-risk choices such as smoking. If such support is easily accessible, a would-be quitter is less likely to choose to smoke. Consistent with the commodity model, social support interventions tend to be effective as long as support remains available, but they lose their effects when support is terminated. From a second approach, Nondirective Support entails accepting recipients' goals, cooperating without taking control, and validating recipients' feelings. In contrast, Directive Support entails taking control and telling recipients what to do and feel. Review of support interventions indicates the value of the continued availability of support suggested by the commodity model and of Nondirective Support's flexibility and responsiveness to the person.  相似文献

Morphine (8–100 mg/kg IP) induces place preference conditioning in mice. The effect of two different periods of isolation (15 and 30 days) was examined. Mice isolated for 15 days but not 30 days exhibited place preference conditioning to morphine (8 mg/kg). After 30 days of isolation morphine could not induce place preference conditioning with the following doses (8, 16, 64, 100 mg/kg). Social regrouping of male mice previously isolated for 30 days with naive female mice for 15 or 30 days resulted in a reappearance of the conditioned place preference to morphine (16 mg/kg). The specificity of this associative deficit was examined by testing learning in isolated compared to non-isolated mice in two distinct settings: escape learning in the Morris water maze and passive avoidance acquisition and retention. On the Morris water maze isolated mice did not differ from non-isolated mice regarding place learning, the probe trial or extinction. Isolated mice were unimpaired in passive avoidance acquisition and retention. It was concluded that the deficits in place preference conditioning were not the result of a global learning impairment in isolated mice. The effect of storage on the physical stability of solid dispersions of triamterene or temazepam in polyethylene glycols was studied using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), particle-size analysis and dissolution methods. The enthalpies of fusion of the carriers, without included drug and previously fused and crystallized, increased on storage. Analysis of similarly treated solid dispersions, containing either 10% temazepam or 10% triamterene, showed that each drug influenced the morphology of the polyethylene glycol (PEG). The enthalpies and melting points of the solidus components of the dispersions' carriers were initially reduced after preparation, but on storage these increased. The particle sizes of the drugs dispersed in the PEGs increased on storage. The changes in dissolution after storage of triamterene or temazepam dispersions were smaller for dispersions in PEG 1500 than for dispersions in PEGs of higher molecular weight (PEG 2000, PEG 4000 or PEG 6000) in which the reduction in dissolution was particularly marked during the first month of storage. The rank order of changes in dissolution were PEG 1500 ? PEG 2000 < PEG 4000 ~ PEG 6000.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to subclassify the soma-dendritic α2-autoreceptors in the locus coeruleus (LC) of the rat by means of antagonists. To this end, the frequency of spontaneous action potentials was recorded extracellularly from single LC neurones in brain slices. The neurones fired spontaneously at an average rate of 1 Hz. The selective α2-adrenoceptor agonist 5-bromo-6-(2-imidazolin-2-ylamino)-quinoxaline (UK 14,304) and noradrenaline decreased the action potential discharge with IC50 values of 5 and 510 nM, respectively. The concentration-inhibition curves of UK 14,304 and noradrenaline were shifted to the right by phentolamine (0.15 μM) and rauwolscine (0.15 μM) but not by prazosin (1 μM). Apparent K d values of phentolamine were 17 nM (against UK 14,304) and 20 nM (against noradrenaline). Apparent K d values of rauwolscine were 47 nM (against UK 14,304) and 70 nM (against noradrenaline). (+)-Oxaprotiline (1 μM) suppressed the firing of the neurones within 10 to 33 min. In the continued presence of oxaprotiline, phentolamine and rauwolscine restored firing with EC50 values of 120 and 250 nM, respectively. Prazosin (1 μM) again was ineffective. All three antagonist affinity estimates – against UK 14,304, exogenous noradrenaline and endogenous noradrenaline (that accumulates in the extracellular space in the presence of oxaprotiline) – yield an affinity order phentolamine > rauwolscine >> prazosin, prazosin being ineffective even at a concentration of 1 μM. These findings identify the soma-dendritic α2-autoreceptors of the LC as the rat variant of the α2A/D-adrenoceptor, i.e. α2D. Not only presynaptic but also soma-dendritic α2-autoreceptors may at least predominantly be α2A/D throughout the nervous system. Received: 3 March 1997 / Accepted: 21 April 1997  相似文献

The effects of an indirect dopamine-agonist, d-amphetamine, and a non-selective dopamine receptor antagonist, haloperidol, were investigated in normal male volunteers using a between-subjects double-blind design in a procedural learning task, thought mainly to involve unconscious/automatic learning. The results showed: (1) d-amphetamine facilitated response speed, whereas haloperidol inhibited it, in comparison to placebo; (2) the linear increase in procedural learning corresponded with pharmacological manipulation of degree of dopaminergic activity, i.e. subjects given haloperidol showed the least, and subjects given d-amphetamine the greatest, procedural learning. The implications of these findings are discussed in relation to investigation of abnormalities of procedural learning processes in schizophrenia. Background: The study reviews the anticancer properties of naturalisoflavones which occur in especially high concentration in soybeans. Itconsiders the suitability of soybean products for clinical trials aiming toreduce the progression of breast cancer.Methods: Evidence is reviewed that plant isoflavones such asgenistein show cytostatic activity against human mammary cancer cell linesin vitro and can also suppress carcinogen-induced mammary cancer inyoung and mature rats.Results: Plant isoflavones are converted in the bowel to compoundswith potential antioestrogenic and antioxidative properties. These compoundsshow cytostatic activity for both oestrogen receptor-positive and negativehuman mammary cancer cell lines, and also inhibit growth and progress of therat mammary cancer model. The high content of soybean products in the diet ofAsian women has been postulated as one reason for their relatively low breastcancer incidence.Conclusion: Preclinical studies suggest that soybean products begiven priority for clinical trials in breast cancer protection. A pilot studycould test soy protein supplements as long-term adjuvant dietary treatmentafter primary surgery for early breast cancer, looking for a decrease in therisk of recurrence or of second primary tumours.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate retrospectively the efficacy of expandable metallic stents (EMSs) for severe respiratory distress in patients with central airway obstruction. Twenty patients with central airway obstructions were treated with an EMS. An intraluminal stricture was present in 15 and an extraluminal stricture in 5 patients. Of the 15 patients with intraluminal stenosis, 11 exhibited symptomatic improvement. All 11 patients had tumor infiltration occupying less than 50% of the endoluminal diameter. The other four patients with intraluminal stenosis had tumor infiltration occupying > 50% of the endoluminal diameter and demonstrated no improvement. All five patients with extraluminal stenosis were improved. EMS is useful for an extraluminal stricture in the central airway and the effect of EMS for intraluminal stenosis is related to the degree of infiltration and of tumor progression itself.   相似文献

The biodistribution of two recently developed tumour markers, trimethylated (CP(Me)3) and trimethoxylated (CP(OMe)3) carotenoporphyrin, was investigated by means of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) after i.v. injection into 38 tumour-bearing (MS-2 fibrosarcoma) female Balb/c mice. At 3, 24, 48 or 96 h after administration, the carotenoporphyrin fluorescence was measured in tumoral and peritumoral tissue, as well as in the abdominal, thoracic and cranial cavities. The fluorescence was induced by a nitrogen laser-pumped dye laser, emitting light at 425 nm, and analysed by a polychromator equipped with an image-intensified CCD camera. The fluorescence was evaluated at 490, 655 and 720 nm: the second and third wavelengths represent the carotenoporphyrin (CP)-related peaks, whereas the first one is close to the peak of the tissue autofluorescence. The tumour and the liver were the two tissue types showing the strongest carotenoporphyrin-related fluorescence, whereas the cerebral cortex and muscle consistently exhibited weak substance-related fluorescence. In most tissue types, the fluorescence intensities decreased over time. A few exceptions were observed, notably the liver, in which the intensity remained remarkably constant over the time period investigated.  相似文献
