Synthesis and properties of 1-(6-methoxy)-2-benzothiazolyl)-2-pyridones

Substituted ]-(6-methoxy-2-benzothiazolyt)-2-pyridones were prepared from 2-amino-6-methoxybenzathiazate through N-(6-methoxy-2-benzothiazotyl) cyanvorearmileaznd-3-aryl-N-(6-methoxy-2-benzothiazolyt)-2-cyano-2-propenamides. The cyclization of the latter with malonodinitrile in the presence of piperidine gave the corresponding pyridones. Zur Kenntnis der thermischen Zersetzung von Ammoniumhexafluoroscandat,-titanat,-vanadat und-chromat

Thermal analysis supported by kinetic calculations was applied exhaustively to these compounds. Under dynamic conditions, tetrafluorometallates(III), which as intermediates, could not be isolated, for the first three compounds. In each case, the final step was the pure metal(III) fluoride. Ammonium hexafluorochromate(III) decomposed directly to the pure chromium(III) fluoride. The decomposition rate of all compounds slowed down towards the end, probably for kinetic reasons. Polymorphic transitions of ammonium hexafluorotitanate(III) were observed at 35 and 100°C. Ammoniumhexafluoroscandate(III) underwent polymorphic transition at 47°C. The decomposition patterns for all these compounds were similar. Conditions for the preparation of pure ammonium tetrafluorometallates(III) of Sc, Ti and V are described.     

Fluorous,chromatography-free Mitsunobu reaction

[formula: see text] The reaction of secondary and primary alcohols with highly fluorinated 3,4,5-tris(5,5,6,6,7,7,8,8,9,9,10,10,11,11,12,12,12-heptadecafluorododecan- 1-yloxy)benzoic acid in the presence of Ph3P and DIAD in THF at room temperature (fluorous Mitsunobu) resulted in a simple, chromatography-free isolation protocol with excellent yields (83-96%).     

Kinetics of self-condensation of acetone over heterogeneous Ba(OH)2 and Sr(OH)2 catalysts

Catalytic performance of Ba(OH)₂ and Sr(OH)₂ in self-condensation of acetone was examined in the temperature range from 273 to 303 K. A kinetic model of second order with respect to acetone was used for interpretation of the results obtained for the diacetone alcohol formation.This revised version was published online in December 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

The additivity principle in pyrolysis—gas chromatography of brown coal

Pyrolysis—gas chromatography of brown coal exhibits additive properties and it is therefore possible to construct the pyrogram of the original coal from the individual pyrograms of the bitumen, humic acids, lignin and humin fractions. The contents of phenols in the pyrograms are typical for all of the above classes except bitumen and are in agreement with the contents of the individual groups in the original coal. The results suggest that the separation does not bring about significant chemical changes in individual brown coal fractions.     

Direct synthesis of protected diethyl 1,2-diaminoalkylphosphonates

An efficient, diastereoselective synthesis of 5-substituted (2-thioxo-imidazolidin-4-yl)phosphonic acid diethyl esters from metallated diethyl isothiocyanatomethylphosphonate and activated imines has been developed. The three-step transformation of imidazolidine-2-thione derivatives into 1,2-diaminoalkylphosphonic acids is also described.     

The [4Fe-4S](2+) cluster in reconstituted biotin synthase binds S-adenosyl-L-methionine

The combination of resonance Raman, electron paramagnetic resonance and M?ssbauer spectroscopies has been used to investigate the effect of S-adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM) on the spectroscopic properties of the [4Fe-4S]2+ cluster in biotin synthase. The results indicate that SAM interacts directly at a unique iron site of the [4Fe-4S]2+ cluster in BioB and support the hypothesis of a common inner-sphere mechanism for the reductive cleavage of SAM in the radical SAM family of Fe-S enzymes.     

Evaluation of the residual stability of polyurethane automotive coatings by DSC

Degradation of poly(ester-urethanes), poly(ether-urethanes) and poly(acrylic-urethanes), as a base for automotive paintings in interior applications, has been studied by DSC. The samples were clearcoat and black-pigmented paints, unstabilized and stabilized with HALS Tinuvin 292, UV absorber Tinuvin 1130 and antioxidant Hostanox O3, exposed to weathering in Xenotest and in Arizona desert. From the dependences of oxidation onset temperature on the heating rate, the kinetic parameters enabling to calculate the oxidation induction time for a chosen temperature have been obtained. From the values of oxidation induction time, the protection factors of the additives and the residual stability of the polymer after an ageing stress has been evaluated. It has been shown that the equivalence between the two methods of weathering depends on the polymer composition. A new criterion for the evaluation of synergism/antagonism of additives in the stabilizing mixture has been proposed.     

Dissolution of copper foil in aqueous solution ofpH=2

The specific dissolution rate, expressed in mol cm^–2s^–1, and time-variation of the rest potential of copper foil in an aerated aqueous solution ofpH = 2.0 were measured.

Zusammenfassung Es wurde die spezifische Auflösungsgeschwindigkeit (in mol cm^–2s^–1) und die zeitliche Veränderung des Restpotentials von Kupfer-Folie in einer belüfteten wäßrigen Lösung von pH 2,0 gemessen.
