Supporting visual data applications in the real-time communication systems are among the most challenging issues over the next generation wireless communication systems. This challenge is further magnified by the fact that the quality of reception is highly sensitive to transmission delay, data losses and bit error rate (BER) in such applications. In this paper, we proposed Superposition Coding with Receiver Diversity (SPC-RD) scheme, which employs unequal error protection (UEP) to improve the error performance, maximize the received signal to noise ratio (SNR) and optimize the reliability of the transmission system. In the transmitter side, the visual data is divided into a number of different priority layers based on their effects on the reception quality. These layers are modulated individually where the highest priority layer is modulated with the highest UEP level against error-prone channels, and vice versa. These modulated signals are then superimposed together and transmitted via wireless Single-Input Multiple-Output (SIMO) Rayleigh fading channel. In the receiver side, three different diversity combining approaches; selection combining (SC), equal gain combining (EGC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) are considered. The combined signal is then passed through a multiuser demodulator so-called the ordered successive interference cancellation (O-SIC) demodulator to reconstruct and separate the data layers. This demodulation technique is evaluated and compared with the traditionally maximum likelihood joint detection (MLJD) technique. Extensive simulations have been carried out to validate the various assertions. Under the assumption of equal transmission power, the simulation results illustrate that the proposed SPC-RD scheme provides a SNR gain of 14.5 dB over the Rayleigh fading channel at the diversity order of three for the acceptable BER level of 10?3 when BPSK scheme is exploited compared to the traditional equal error protection system. In addition, the proposed scheme with O-SIC demodulation technique achieves almost similar performance compared to MLJD technique but using less computational complexity. 相似文献

Effects of solvent and supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) extraction on antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of lycopene-rich fractions of decanted pink guava by-product (decanter) were determined with lycopene-equivalent antioxidant capacity, β-carotene bleaching and MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assays. Extraction with SC-CO2 gave a higher yield than solvent extraction (3.15 vs. 0.68 mg/100 g dried decanter, corresponding to 42.99 and 33.63 mg of lycopene). No cytotoxicity was found in Chang liver cells supplemented with either extracts (6.25–200 μg/ml). Solvent extract at 25 μg/ml (2.32 μM lycopene) and SC-CO2 extract at 200 μg/ml (5.09 μM lycopene) had protective effect against hydrogen peroxide-induced cytotoxicity. However, only high concentrations of solvent extract (200 μg/ml; lycopene = 18.65 μM) or lycopene standard (10 μM) protected cells against DNA damage. Supercritical fluid extraction demonstrated a higher yield in lycopene-rich fraction from decanter. These fractions have the potential to be developed as a functional ingredient to prevent oxidative stress and other related diseases. 相似文献

Materials that exhibit highly nonlinear behaviour are intricate to study. This is due to their physical properties, as they possess a very large deformation. Silicone rubber is among the materials that can be classified as possessing such characteristics, despite their being soft and frequently applied in medical applications. Due to their low mechanical properties, however, it is believed that a filler addition could enhance them. This study, therefore, aims to investigate the effect of the addition of bamboo cellulosic filler to silicone rubber in terms of its compressive properties in order to quantify its material constants using the hyperelastic theory, specifically the Neo-Hookean and Mooney–Rivlin models. The specimens’ compressive properties were also compared between specimens immersed in seawater and those not immersed in seawater. The findings showed that the compressive properties, stiffness, and compressive strength of the bamboo cellulosic fibre reinforced the silicone rubber biocomposites, improved with higher bamboo filler addition. Specimens immersed in seawater showed that they can withstand a compressive load of up to 83.16 kPa in comparison to specimens not immersed in seawater (up to 79.8 kPa). Using the hyperelastic constitutive models, the Mooney–Rivlin model displayed the most accurate performance curve fit with the experimental compression data with an R2 of up to 0.9999. The material constant values also revealed that the specimens immersed in seawater improved in stiffness property, as the C1 material constant values are higher than for the specimens not immersed in seawater. From these findings, this study has shown that bamboo cellulosic filler added into silicone rubber enhances the material’s compressive properties and that the rubber further improves with immersion in seawater. Thus, these findings contribute significantly towards knowledge of bamboo cellulosic fibre–reinforced silicone rubber biocomposite materials. 相似文献

PURPOSE: To discuss how the evolution of vestibular schwannoma radiosurgery, changes in health care delivery, and patient accessibility to medical information will affect the management of vestibular schwannomas in the future. CONCEPT: In comparison with microsurgical resection of vestibular schwannomas, radiosurgery has a lower morbidity rate, a similar risk of requiring further surgery, and higher patient satisfaction. As this information becomes more widely available to patients and third-party payors, radiosurgery may replace surgical resection as the preferred management strategy for patients with small to medium sized vestibular schwannomas in the United States. RATIONALE: It is estimated that 2500 patients are diagnosed with vestibular schwannomas each year in the United States. Assuming that 80% undergo surgery, 2000 operations are performed annually for newly diagnosed vestibular schwannomas. Data available since 1987 regarding the number of cases for which gamma knife radiosurgery was performed were used to predict the number of patients who will undergo vestibular schwannoma radiosurgery in the future. If the current trend continues, an equal number of patients will undergo surgical resection and radiosurgery to treat their vestibular schwannomas (approximately 1000/yr) sometime between 2005 and 2010. Moreover, it is predicted that by 2020, two-thirds of the patients who are newly diagnosed with vestibular schwannomas will undergo radiosurgery, with surgical resection being reserved for patients with large tumors associated with symptomatic brain stem compression. DISCUSSION: Early data regarding vestibular schwannoma radiosurgery predicted an exponential growth curve. Although it is premature to assume that the current trend will continue, it is likely that an ever increasing percentage of patients will undergo radiosurgery as accessibility to this alternative increases, and more data are published regarding long-term tumor growth control rates. If the mathematical model proves to be accurate, then stereotactic radiosurgery will replace surgical resection as the preferred management strategy for the majority of patients with vestibular schwannomas. 相似文献

Enamel and dentine in teeth of children with high blood levels of lead were analyzed by means of secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) and X-ray micro-analyses (XRMA) and compare with teeth from children with low blood levels of lead. The SIMS analysis revealed detectable levels of Pb in dentine close to the pulp. The XRMA analyses could not detect any lead. There were no differences found in lead level in enamel of high lead level exposed teeth from low level exposed. The results confirm that children with high blood levels of lead have an uptake of lead in dentine close to the pulp. 相似文献

Heat transfer behavior in a 2-D square lid-driven cavity has been studied for various pertinent Reynolds and Rayleigh numbers. The lattice Boltzmann method, a numerical tool based on the particle distribution function is applied to simulate a thermal fluid flow problem. Bhatnagar-Gross-Krook (BGK) is combined with the double population thermal Lattice Boltzmann model to solve mixed convection in a square cavity. An adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) method is trained and validated using BGK Lattice Boltzmann model results. The results show that the trained ANFIS model successfully predicts the temperature and flow fields in a few seconds with acceptable accuracy. 相似文献
