The physicochemical properties of starches of six different root and tuber crop species grown mainly in Sri Lanka showed significant differences among the tested crop species and varieties. The median granule size of starch of tested root and tuber crop species varied from 33.5 to 10.2 μm. The largest granule size and the highest blue value were given by the canna, Buthsarana, and yam species, in that order. The amylose content of cassava was higher than those of sweet potato and many yams. High peak viscosities, high breakdown, and high final viscosities were observed in yams, and, generally, such starch showed a high swelling power. According to the correlation analysis, these pasting properties would mainly be due to their larger starch granule size. Based on the thermal properties, cassava starch showed less energy requirement for gelatinization and thus gelatinized at lower temperatures. Furthermore, a higher susceptibility of raw cassava starch toward fungal glucoamylase was observed. The low enzyme digestibility of raw yam starch would be due to its large granules. Correlation analysis showed that the blue value and starch granule size were important in determining the pasting, thermal, and other properties of starch.  相似文献

This study aimed to optimize the ratio of dioctyl 4‐cyclohexene‐1,2‐dicarboxylate (DOTH) and di‐isononyl‐cyclohexane‐1,2‐dicarboxylate (DINCH®) for use as plasticizers in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) sheets. We also evaluated the biological safety of DOTH for its potential to be part of a safe PVC‐based blood container. The suppression of hemolysis in mannitol‐adenine‐phosphate / red cell concentrates (MAP/RCC) with DOTH/(DINCH®‐PVC) sheets and the elution of plasticizers from the sheets increased with higher DOTH compositions. The properties of the PVC sheet containing DOTH and DINCH® in the ratio of 25:33 parts against PVC 100 parts as a weight were almost identical to the PVC sheet made of di(2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate. From a subchronic toxicity test, DOTH did not show any adverse effects on all organs, including the testes, epididymis, liver, and kidneys. The no‐observed‐adverse‐effect level was 300 mg/kg body weight/day in a rat. These results suggest that DOTH/DINCH® (25:33) is a promising candidate for the replacement of di(2‐ethylhexyl) phthalate in blood containers. J. VINYL ADDIT. Abstract

We studied the effects of the hydroxylation patterns and the degrees of polymerization of condensed tannins on their metal-chelating capacity. These effects were evaluated by the relative stability of aluminium complexes with proanthocyanidin. The relative stability of aluminium complexes was determined qualitatively in methanol solution by the competition with the metallochromic reagent (chrome azurol S). A comparison of these capacities indicates the following results: 1) phenolic hydroxy groups in tannins are essential sites for the chelation with metal. 2) the sites of tannins interacting with metal ions are mainly o-dihydroxyphenyl groups in B-ring. 3) increasing degrees of polymerization of tannins tends to increase the relative stability of condensed tannin-aluminium chelate.  相似文献

Hydrocracking reactions of diphenylmethane and tetralin were carried out over three kinds of zeolites with or without NiW sulfide to discuss the roles of catalytic bifunctionality in two types of hydrocracking reactions. It was found that strong acid sites were not needed for the hydrocracking of diphenylmethane, while the conversion of tetralin required relatively strong acid sites. Ultra-stable Y zeolite with strong acidity exhibited high hydrocracking activity for both reactions. In contrast, mordenite catalysts did not show high activity for either hydrocracking, though isomerization of tetralin and excess hydrocracking to gaseous products proceeded. The superior performances of ultra-stable Y zeolite in the tetralin hydrocracking were suggested to be related to the hydrogen transfer ability. In most cases, the loading of NiW sulfide enhanced catalytic activity. In the diphenylmethane hydrocracking, the role of NiW sulfide was found to supply active hydrogen to the hydrocracking active sites on zeolite and to prevent polymerization of benzyl cations. In the tetralin hydrocracking, the dehydrogenated products from tetralin were re-hydrogenated over NiW sulfide.  相似文献

A clinical investigation was carried out in 39 patients with atypical mycobacteriosis (AM). The patients at our hospital diagnosed as having AM during an 11-year period from 1981 to 1991 were reviewed in this study. The incidence of AM among all of mycobacterial infections has been increasing since 1988. The atypical mycobacteria detected included M. avium complex (MAC) in 79%, M. kansasii in 26%, and other organisms in 5%. Patients who had primary infection without underlying respiratory disease were compared with those who had secondary infection. In secondary infection, MAC was detected in the sputum of a high percentage of patients and was positive for more than 6 months despite therapy. Gamma globulin levels were also increased in patients with secondary infection. Cell mediated immunity was examined by the DNCB reaction and the detection of CD4- and CD8- positive T lymphocytes. The DNCB skin reaction was positive in 6 out of 26 patients with secondary infection. The percentage of CD8- positive T lymphocytes was higher in patients with secondary disease. Fischer's ratio (indicating the balance of plasma amino acids) was also examined as an index of the nutritional status. It was significantly lower in secondary infection compared with primary infection. Moreover, secondary infection was associated with a lower positive rate for the DNCB skin reaction and a lower Fischer's ratio when compared with pulmonary tuberculosis. Thus impairment of cell-mediated immunity, malnutrition, and a poor prognosis were significantly more common in secondary infection compared with primary infection.  相似文献

We investigated the dielectric properties of a new type of polyethylene (PE) polymerized with a single-site catalyst. The new PE has much higher dielectric strength and volume resistivity than both conventional low-density PE and linear low-density PE. The increase in the density is considered to be responsible for the increase in dielectric strength. The possibility of an application of Er-doped fiber amplifiers to AM-FDM (frequency division multiplexing) or FM-FDM video distribution networks is discussed. The measured noise and modulation distortion properties of ER-doped fiber amplifiers are good enough to meet even the severe quality standards set for trunk lines. A carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR) of 57 dB for an AM-FDM transmission was measured. A second-order harmonic distortion (HD2) of less than -56 dB was measured by the monotone method (modulation depth m=50%), and a cross modulation distortion (XM) of less than -63 dB was measured by the two-tone method (m=25%×channel). On the basis of these values, composite second-order distortion (CSO) and XM in a 40-channel transmission were estimated as less than -57 dB and -73 dB, respectively. Significant reduction of noise and modulation distortion is made possible by optimizing the length of Er-doped fiber amplifiers and using input- and output-port isolators  相似文献

One-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) of periodically alternating low (SiO2) and high (TiO2) refractive index materials was prepared by sol-gel dip coating method that controls the thickness of each layer with nanometer level. The photonic band gap of high reflectivity was verified at wavelengths between 590 nm and 820 nm, which became significant with increasing the number of bilayer. The UV-vis spectra, SEM image and glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy indicate the periodic structure of SiO2/TiO2 multilayer. The magnetic layer of CoFe2O4 was also prepared by a sol-gel dip coating method. After the annealing at 700 °C, the single phase of CoFe2O4 film with spinel structure, without any preferred crystalline orientation, was obtained. In addition, the one-dimensional magnetophotonic crystal (MPC), in which the magnetic defect layer of CoFe2O4 is introduced into the periodic structure, was prepared. The light was localized at the magnetic defect due to the interference of the multilayer film, and the localized transmittance was observed around 530 nm. The Faraday rotation of MPC shows a peak at ∼ 570 nm which is close to the localized peak of transmittance. This may correspond to the enhancement of Faraday rotation due to the localization of light.  相似文献

In an attempt to obtain finest possible microparticles of BaTiO3 (BT) with highest possible tetragonality via a solid state route, starting mixtures comprising BaCO3 and TiO2 were subjected to various pretreatments including addition of glycine and mechanical activation. Reaction processes were monitored by the changes in the weight, crystallinity, and morphology in detail. While mechanical activation with glycine significantly increased the rate of reaction and homogeneity of the particle size of the product, BT, simultaneous particle growth of BT was intolerably acute for micro-electronic devices. The fast particle coarsening was predominated by the coalescence of BT tiny particles formed around titania. A mixture with higher homogeneity was attained by using finer starting materials under wet mixing, avoiding significant mechanical stressing. Particle growth of BT was suppressed to ca. 100 nm to obtain fully crystallized BT particles without significant loss of tetragonality and, hence, close to meet our requirements for MLCCs.  相似文献

Flow patterns in the course of transesterification of waste cooking oil (WCO), sunflower oil (SFO) with water and/or oleic acid as a model of WCO, and pure SFO in the presence of a KOH catalyst in microtubes were investigated. FAME yield for the transesterification of WCO reached more than 89% in the microtube reactors with a residence time of 252 s at 333 K. The flow patterns when using WCO were changed from a liquid–liquid slug flow at the inlet region to a parallel flow at the middle region, and then to a homogeneous liquid flow at the outlet region as the reaction proceeded at 333 K. Fine droplets containing glycerol and methanol generally formed in oil slugs when using pure SFO, but were almost unobservable when using WCO. The soap produced from free fatty acids was considered to be the main factor affecting the flow patterns of WCO and SFO. © 2009 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2010  相似文献
