Zwitterionic surfactants based on 3-(1-alkyl-3-imidazolio) propane-sulfonate ([ImS3-R] where R is octyl or dodecyl) is an emerging and important class of amphiphile due to their relevance as nano reactors for the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles and accelerated acid hydrolysis. The physicochemical properties of such synthesized imidazolium ring-containing zwitterionic surfactants have been characterized by surface tension and small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) techniques. Surface tension measurements were used to calculate several thermodynamic parameters over a range of concentrations and temperatures (298–313 K). The results obtained showed a weak signature representing the critical micelle concentration (CMC) for ImS3-8, however, by increasing the alkyl length of the hydrophobic group to dodecyl, that is, ImS3-8 to ImS3-12, the signature of the CMC was much more evident. As expected, the CMC for ImS3-12 shifted to a lower concentration. An increase in temperature increased the surface activity and decreased the CMC of both zwitterionic surfactants, although the changes were small. Compared to classical surfactants, that is, sodium dodecyl sulfate and dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide, the CMC of ImS3-12 is much lower. Modeling of SANS data demonstrated that the morphology of the micelles formed by these amphiphiles may be described by the “classical” model, a central hydrophobic core, with a shell of hydrated headgroups. Due to their widespread applications in colloidal and interfacial science, the present study adds new insight to the fundamental understanding of these interesting imidazolium-based surface-active ionic liquids (ImS3-R).  相似文献

In this effort, Quickstep, a relatively a new technique, have been employed for manufacturing of composite materials. The cure schedule provided by a prepreg manufacturer is usually designed for autoclave or other traditional processing techniques and thermosetting resin systems are formulated for ramp rate curing 2–3 K min?1. While in case of Quickstep processing, ramp rates of 15 K min?1 can be achieved, thus changing the chemorheology of resin. The cure process of 977‐2A carbon/epoxy composites was evaluated for Quickstep processing using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical and thermal analysis, and Fourier transformed infrared and results were compared with cure cycle employed for autoclave curing. Optimum hold time for Quickstep processing at upper curing temperature (180°C) was determined using DSC. The hold time of 120 min at 180°C was found to be suitable for Quickstep cure cycle, producing a panel of similar degree of cure to that achieved through autoclave processing schedule. Final degree of cure was dependent on time spent at upper cure temperature and slightly on initial steps of the cure cycle which was used to control the resin flow, fiber wetting, and void removal. Quickstep processed samples exhibited higher Tg and crosslink density and similar molecular network structure to the autoclave cured samples. POLYM. ENG. The performances of three advanced non-linear controllers are analyzed for the optimal set point tracking of styrene free radical polymerization (FRP) in batch reactors. The three controllers are the artificial neural network-based MPC (NN-MPC), the artificial fuzzy logic controller (FLC) as well as the generic model controller (GMC). A recently developed hybrid model (Hosen et al., 2011a. Asia-Pac. J. Chem. Eng. 6(2), 274) is utilized in the control study to design and tune the proposed controllers. The optimal minimum temperature profiles are determined using the Hamiltonian maximum principle. Different types of disturbances are introduced and applied to examine the stability of controller performance. The experimental studies revealed that the performance of the NN-MPC is superior to that of FLC and GMC.  相似文献

This report concentrates on high performance anodes appropriate for SOFCs operating at low temperatures (400–600 °C). Symmetrical cells were made by screen printing of Nb-doped SrTiO3 (STN) on both sides of a dense ScYSZ electrolyte. Backbones I (36% porosity) and II (47% porosity) were obtained by sintering STN in air and reducing atmosphere, respectively. The porous microstructures were then infiltrated with Ni and Gd-doped CeO2 (CGO) precursors to incorporate the electrocatalytically active sites. The electrochemical performance of the anode was improved with the increment of Ni-CGO loadings. The gas diffusion impedance was investigated with He and N2 in H2/H2O gas mixtures and by varying the H2O content at 655 °C. This study indicated that the gas diffusion in these electrodes are influenced by Knudsen and bulk diffusion.  相似文献

The laminar helical flow of non-Newtonian pseudoplastic fluids in concentric and eccentric annuli with a rotating inner cylinder has been investigated numerically. A finite volume algorithm with a nonstaggered grid system is used to analyze the problem. A nonorthogonal curvilinear coordinate system is employed to handle the irregular geometry of aneccentric annulus. The power-law constitutive equation is used to model the shear rate dependent viscosity of a pseudoplastic fluid. The computer code is validated against an available analytical solution for helical flow in a concentric annulus. It is observed that for a certain axial pressure gradient the axial flow rate increases within creasing rotational speed of the inner cylinder. The torque needed to rotate the inner cylinder decreases with increasing axial pressure gradient. These are explained in terms of the shear-thinning effect of a pseudoplastic fluid. The discharge as well as torque are found to increase with increasing eccentricity. The flow field in an eccentric annulus is complex in nature since vigorous secondary flow is produced in addition to the primary axial helical flow. The location and extent of the secondary flow is studied and theresults are presented for various eccentricities. The results will be useful in planning oil and gas well drilling operations.  相似文献

Various Lactobacillus species possess antidiarrheal properties due to their probiotic effects and could be utilized in the form of fermented foods for the treatment of diarrheal disease. Diarrhea is the condition of having 3 or more loose or watery bowel movements per day. This disease is a global problem causing several million deaths each year, and the major victims are children. So its prevention and control is crucial. For the treatment of diarrheal disease, antibiotics and oral rehydration solutions are used, but these therapies are not always effective to reduce the duration and frequency of diarrhea and of increase consistency. Recent studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of the natural mode (fermented food) of disease management because of its easy availability, low cost, and efficacy against diarrhea.  相似文献

Seasonal samples were taken from four selected stations on the Habbaniya lake, middle of Iraq during 1997, to study six heavy metals (Cu, Cd, Pb, Ni, Mn, and Zn), in water suspended particles, sediments and aquatic plants. Five plant species were collected, represented the most dominant in the lake, namely Myriophyllum verticillatum, Potamogeton crispus, P. pectinatus, Ceratophyllum demersum and Vallisnaria spiralis . Zn had the highest concentration among the studied metals in filtered water and suspended particles with an average of 4.08 w g/l and 26088 w g/g, respectively. Whereas, Mn had the highest in the sediments and all studied aquatic plants, which ranged between 213.3- 2027 w g/g and 100-1725 w g/g, respectively, Meanwhile, Cd had the lowest concentration in all studied samples.  相似文献

The conventional power swing schemes used in distance relay operation are not fast enough to detect and distinguish a fault, stable swing and unstable swing and this may lead to unintended tripping of protection devices. Therefore, there is a need for fast detection of unstable swings so as to improve the reliability of distance relay operation. This paper presents an intelligent approach for detecting unstable swings during distance relay operation using the S-transform signal processing technique and artificial neural networks. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, simulations were carried out on the IEEE 39 bus test system using the PSS/E software. Test results showed that the proposed approach using S-transform, multi layer perceptron network and probabilistic neural network can accurately detect and classify fault, stable swing, unstable swing, fault clearance and post fault events for correct distance relay operation.  相似文献
