The present study investigates the compatibilizing effect of polyphosphazene on the blends of poly(ether imide) (PEI) and thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer (Vectra‐B). FTIR study showed that there was a partial interaction or chemical reaction between the PEI and LCP in the presence of compatibilizer. Polyphosphazene is compatibilized with both PEI and LCP, which was evident from DMA results. From the X‐ray diffraction study, it has been observed that the crystalline structure of PEI–LCP blends was increased with the addition of compatibilizer. The thermal study of the composites has been studied by DTA/thermo gravimetric analyses (TGA). TGA thermograms showed an increase in decomposition temperature of PEI–LCP blends in the presence of compatibilizer. Measurement of the tensile properties showed an increase in the elongation as well as enhanced modulus and strength. From SEM micrographs of tensile fractured surfaces, the addition of compatibilizer to PEI–LCP blends was found to increase the adhesion between the matrix and the dispersed phase. POLYM. This communication presents results of our 2-year survey on groundwater arsenic contamination in three districts Ballia, Varanasi and Gazipur of Uttar Pradesh (UP) in the upper and middle Ganga plain, India. Analyses of 4,780 tubewell water samples revealed that arsenic concentrations in 46.5% exceeded 10 microg/L, in 26.7%, 50 microg/L and in 10% 300 microg/L limits. Arsenic concentrations up to 3,192 microg//L were observed. The age of tubewells (n=1,881) ranged from less than a year to 32 years, with an average of 6.5 years. Our study shows that older tubewells had a greater chance of contamination. Depth of tubewells (n=3,810) varied from 6 to 60.5 m with a mean of 25.75 m. A detailed study in three administrative units within Ballia district, i.e. block, Gram Panchayet, and village was carried out to assess the magnitude of the contamination. Before our survey the affected villagers were not aware that they were suffering from arsenical toxicity through contaminated drinking water. A preliminary clinical examination in 11 affected villages (10 from Ballia and 1 from Gazipur district) revealed typical arsenical skin lesions ranging from melanosis, keratosis to Bowens (suspected). Out of 989 villagers (691 adults, and 298 children) screened, 137 (19.8%) of the adults and 17 (5.7%) of the children were diagnosed to have typical arsenical skin lesions. Arsenical neuropathy and adverse obstetric outcome were also observed, indicating severity of exposure. The range of arsenic concentrations in hair, nail and urine was 137-10,900, 764-19,700 microg/kg, and 23-4,030 microg/L, respectively. The urine, hair and nail concentrations of arsenic correlated significantly (r=0.76, 0.61, and 0.55, respectively) with drinking water arsenic concentrations. The similarity to previous studies on arsenic contamination in West Bengal, Bihar and Bangladesh indicates that people from a significant part of the surveyed areas in UP are suffering and this will spread unless drives to raise awareness of arsenic toxicity are undertaken and an arsenic safe water supply is immediately introduced.  相似文献

Abstract

The current research comprises of various machinability aspects of 4340 hardened alloy steel which are scrutinized with in context of improvements in main cutting force, tool flank wear, crater wear, surface roughness, micro-hardness, machined surface morphology, chip morphology, chip reduction coefficient and apparent coefficient of friction under three different cutting fluid applications i.e. compressed air, water soluble coolant and nanofluid (using eco-friendly radiator coolant as the base fluid and Al2O3 as the nanoparticle) using uncoated cermet cutting inserts and a comparative assessment was performed to select which fluid performed better in terms of various machining attributes among three cutting fluids. The minimum quantity lubrication technique (MQL) was used in which a smaller volume of coolant sprinkled at high pressure. This method is found as the most effective alternative to minimize health risks and machining costs, which is quite high in other setups. The test specimen was machined at three different cutting speeds i.e. 100, 120 and 140?m/min along with two machining parameters i.e. feed and depth of cut were kept constant respectively at 0.2?mm/rev and 0.4?mm. Outcomes made a conclusion that Al2O3 enriched ecofriendly nanocoolant outperformed both compressed air and water soluble coolant in terms of every machinability aspects.  相似文献

We describe the development of a beam scanning microscope that can perform optical sectioning based on the principle of confocal microscopy. The scanning is performed by a laser beam diffracted from a dynamic binary hologram implemented using a liquid crystal spatial light modulator. Using the proposed scanning mechanism, unlike the conventional confocal microscopes, scanning over a two-dimensional area of the sample can be obtained without the use of a pair of galvo mirror scanners. The proposed microscope has a number of advantages, such as superior frame to frame repeatability, simpler optical arrangement, increased pixel dwell time relative to the time between two pixels, illumination of only the sample points without pulsing the laser, and absolute control over the amplitude and phase of the illumination beam on a pixel to pixel basis. The proposed microscope can be particularly useful for applications requiring very long exposure time or very large working distance objective lenses. In this paper we present experimental implementation of the setup using a nematic liquid crystal spatial light modulator and proof-of-concept experimental results.  相似文献

Subsurface Characterization Using Artificial Neural Network and GIS   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A method for characterizing the subsurface is developed using an artificial neural network (ANN) and geographic information system (GIS). Data on the distribution of aquifer materials from monitoring well lithologic logs are used to train a multilayer perceptron using the back-propagation algorithm. The trained ANN predicts using an appropriate prediction scale, the subsurface formation materials at each point on a discretized grid of the model area. GIS is then used to develop subsurface profiles from the data generated using the ANN. These subsurface profiles are then compared with available geological sections to check the accuracy of the ANN-GIS generated profiles. This methodology is applied to determine the aquifer extent and calculate aquifer parameters for input to ground-water models for the multiaquifer system underlying the city of Bangkok, Thailand. A selected portion of the model domain is used for illustration. The integrated approach of ANN and GIS is shown to be a powerful tool for characterizing complex aquifer geometry, and for calculating aquifer parameters for ground-water flow modeling.  相似文献

The dynamic characteristics of hydrodynamic journal bearings lubricated with micropolar fluids are presented. The modified Reynolds equation is obtained using the micropolar lubrication theory. Applying the first order perturbation of the film thickness and steady state film pressure, the dynamic characteristics in terms of the components of stiffness and damping coefficients, critical mass parameter and whirl ratio are obtained with respect to the micropolar property for varying eccentricity ratios and slenderness ratios. The results show that micropolar fluid exhibits better stability in comparison with Newtonian fluid.  相似文献

Two mathematical models for parameter estimation in closed-loop, open-channel flow networks are presented. The parameter estimation models seek to determine the parameter values that would reproduce an observed flow profile in the channel network. The governing equations for gradually varied flow in channel networks are the optimization models’ constraints. The projected augmented Lagrangian method is used to solve the optimization models. Performance of these two optimization models is evaluated for a given closed-loop network configuration. Results establish the potential of the developed models for use in real-life flow scenarios.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Several recent studies have implicated a role of endogenous nitric oxide (NO) in the pathophysiology of myocardial ischemic/reperfusion injury. However, the mechanism by which NO exerts its beneficial/detrimental effects remains unknown. This study examined the intracellular signaling of NO by studying the role of the NO-cGMP signaling pathway on the phospho-diesteratic breakdown and turnover of phosphoinositides during myocardial ischemia and reperfusion. METHODS: Isolated working rat hearts were made ischemic for 30 min followed by 30 min of reperfusion. A separate group of hearts were pre-perfused with 3 mM L-arginine for 10 min prior to ischemia. The release of NO was monitored using an on-line amperometric sensor. The aortic flow and developed pressure were examined to determine the effects of L-arginine on ischemic/reperfusion injury. For signal transduction experiments, sarcolemmal membranes were radiolabeled by perfusing the isolated hearts with [3H]myoinositol and [14C]arachidonic acid. Hearts were then perfused for 10 min in the presence or absence of L-arginine via the Langendorff mode. Ischemia was induced for 30 min followed by 30 min of reperfusion. Experiments were terminated before L-arginine and after L-arginine treatment, after ischemia, and during reperfusion. Biopsies were processed to determine the isotopic incorporation into various phosphoinositols as well as phosphatidic acid and diacylglycerol. cGMP was assayed by radioimmunoassay and SOD content was determined by enzymatic analysis. RESULTS: The release of NO was diminished following ischemia and reperfusion and was augmented by L-arginine. L-Arginine reduced ischemic/reperfusion injury as evidenced by the enhanced myocardial functional recovery. cGMP, which remained unaffected by ischemia and reperfusion, was stimulated significantly after L-arginine treatment. The cGMP level persisted up to 10 min of reperfusion and then dropped slightly. Reperfusion of ischemic myocardium resulted in significant accumulation of radiolabeled inositol phosphate, inositol bisphosphate, and inositol triphosphate. Isotopic incorporation of [3H]inositol into phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate, and phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate was increased significantly during reperfusion. Reperfusion of the ischemic heart prelabeled with [14C]-arachidonic acid resulted in modest increases in [14C]diacylglycerol and [14C]phosphatidic acid. Pretreatment of the heart with L-arginine significantly reversed this enhanced phosphodiesteratic breakdown during ischemia and early reperfusion. However, at the end of the reperfusion the inhibitory effect of L-arginine on the phosphodiesterases seems to be reduced. In L-arginine-treated hearts, SOD activity was progressively decreased with the duration of reperfusion time. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest for the first time that NO plays a significant role in transmembrane signaling in the ischemic myocardium. The signaling seems to be transmitted via cGMP and opposes the effects of phosphodiesterases by inhibiting the ischemia/reperfusion-induced phosphodiesteratic breakdown. This signaling effect appears to be reduced as reperfusion progresses. These results, when viewed in the light of free radical chemistry of NO, suggest that such on- and off-signaling of NO may be linked to its interaction with the superoxide radical generated during the reperfusion of ischemic myocardium.  相似文献
