A novel ion-selective poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membrane sensor for Cu2+ ions based on N,N′-(2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diyl)-bis(dihydroxyacetophenone) (NDHA) as a new ionophore was prepared and studied. The best performance was observed for the membrane composition, including 30:65:1:4 (wt%) = PVC:DBP:KTpClPB:NDHA. The electrode showed a good Nernstian slope of 30.0 ± 0.5 mV/decade in a wide linear range activity of 3.0 × 10−7 to 1.0 × 10−2 mol dm−3 Cu(NO3)2 with limit of detection 2.5 × 10−7. Sensor exhibited a fast response time (t95% < 10 s) and could be used for about 4 months in the pH range of 3.0–7.4. The proposed potentiometric sensor was found to work satisfactorily in partially non-aqueous media up to 30 (vol%) content of methanol, ethanol and acetone. Applications of this electrode for the determination of copper in real samples, and as an indicator electrode for potentiometric titration of Cu2+ ion using EDTA, were reported. In order to predict the extraction ability of NDHA for different metallic ions, the complexes [M(NDHA)] and [M(H2O)6] (where M = Cu2+, Co2+, Hg2+, Pb2+, Ag+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Mn2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, K+ and Al3+) were investigated using ab initio theoretical calculations. The metal binding capability was evaluated using the binding energy. Results of our study could be useful for prediction of the extraction power of this Schiff base and could play a guiding role in planning experiments.  相似文献

Chloride binding has remarkable influence on the chloride penetration and hence, on the time to corrosion initiation in reinforced concrete structures. Previous studies have mainly looked at the chloride binding from internal sources in laboratory, which is not representative of practical situations. The current work focuses on the chloride binding characteristics of concrete samples exposed to an external source of chlorides from the sea water at Persian Gulf region. Some of the important parameters including w/c ratio, silica fume replacement and effect of chloride concentration on chloride binding were investigated in order to provide insight into the distribution of free and bound chloride ions after a long-term exposure.The results of the current study suggest that the chloride binding capacity increases with increasing the w/c ratio and chloride concentration but decreases by using silica fume. A general equation was also developed correlating the total and bound chloride in order to obtain more accurate service life prediction.  相似文献

The application of the Nusselt number (Nu) correlation of a packed bed of spherical particles overestimates the rate of heat transfer in the packed beds of shredded materials. This is due to the dependence of flow distribution on the particle geometry. This discrepancy is even more pronounced due to a channeling effect at low Peclet numbers (Pe). In this study, the heat transfer coefficient for a packed bed of shredded materials was derived at low Peclet numbers. In deriving the correlation, both numerical simulation and experimental work were employed. The experimental work was carried out in a packed bed of combustible materials for the flow rates of 15 × 10? 6 to 50 × 10? 6 m 3/s and a temperature range of 30 to 60°C. Using the results of experimental work along with numerical modeling and applying a power law formulation, the best-fit Nusselt number for the packed bed of shredded materials for Pe < 25 was derived to be Nu = 0.015 0.11 + Pe 0.73 . The Nusselt number calculated from this correlation is in good agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

Papermaking sludge (PS), a waste residue from the pulp and paper processing, has brought great pressure on the environment because of large quantities that are produced in paper mills. This work was carried out to explore the possibility of making PS/cement composite products using solid waste of PS. Boards measuring 350 × 270 × 12 mm3 were manufactured using PS contents of 40, 50, and 60 wt%, adhesive dosages of 0, 10, and 15 wt%, and 0 and 5 wt% of calcium chloride as an accelerator. At least three replications were fabricated for each treatment, and some mechanical and physical properties of the boards were evaluated. Test results showed that the bending and internal strengths of the specimens decreased with an increase in the PS content, and the maximum values were obtained at PS loading of 40 wt%. The negative influence of PS content on the mechanical properties can be explained by the reduced bonding ability because of weaker PS compared with cement. Screw withdrawal values were up to 22.7 kPa. Water absorption and thickness swelling of cement mortar considerably increased with increased content of PS, with a corresponding reduction of bulk density. In general, all properties of the boards were improved when the adhesive and calcium chloride contents were increased. The results showed that an increase in board density improved the mechanical and physical properties. Fluconazole‐resistant Candida albicans is a big scary reality. The authors assessed the antifungal effects of magnetic iron‐oxide nanoparticles on fluconazole‐resistant colonising isolate of C. albicans and determined the expression of ERG11 gene, protein sequence similarity and ergosterol content. C. albicans isolates were characterised and fluconazole resistance is recognised using World Health Organization''s WHONET software. Susceptibility testing of magnetic iron‐oxide nanoparticles against fluconazole‐resistant colonising isolate of C. albicans was performed according to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. The expression patterns of ERG11 and protein sequence similarity were investigated. Ergosterol quantification has been used to gauge the antifungal activity of magnetic iron‐oxide nanoparticles. The findings indicated that 93% of C. albicans isolates were resistant to fluconazole. Magnetic iron‐oxide nanoparticles were presented activity against fluconazole‐resistant colonising isolate of C. albicans with minimum inhibitory concentration at 250–500 µg/ml. The expression level of ERG11 gene was downregulated in fluconazole‐resistant colonising isolate of C. albicans. The results revealed no differences in fluconazole‐resistant colonising isolate of C. albicans by comparison with ERG11 reference sequences. Moreover, significant reduction was noted in ergosterol content. In this work the influences of Boron (B) content on the microstructure, hardness and mechanical properties of Al–15%Mg2Si composite were investigated. The results showed that with the increase of B content, the average size of primary Mg2Si particles decreased from ∼23 to ∼5 μm and the volume fraction of them decreased too, but the amount of alpha phase increased. It was found that with the addition of 0.3%B, the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation values reached from 252 to 273 MPa and 2.2% to 3.7%, respectively. It was revealed from hardness tests that B decreases the hardness values of the composite. Also, a small amount of Boride compounds formed as a result of the addition of B, which were the main reason of the decreasing of tensile properties at samples with high B.  相似文献

In the present work biodegradable pH-sensitive polycaprolactone/acrylic acid (PCL/AA) hydrogels have been developed using ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a cross-linker and benzoyl peroxide as initiator. For these prepared hydrogels swelling studies, sol-gel fraction analysis and porosity measurements were performed. Results show that swelling of the hydrogels decreases on increasing the concentration of PCL and EGDMA, however swelling of hydrogels increases on increasing the concentration of AA. Results of sol-gel fraction analysis show that gel fraction increases on increasing concentration of monomer AA, polymer PCL as well as cross-linker EGDMA. As far as porosity is concerned, it increases on increasing the concentration of AA and PCL while porosity decreases on increasing the concentration of EGDMA. Hydrogels were characterized by measuring diffusion coefficient (D) and equilibrium water content (EWC). Network formation, morphology and crystallinity of PCL/AA hydrogels were investigated using FTIR, SEM and XRD, respectively. Tramadol hydrochloride was loaded as model drug and its release pattern was analysed using various kinetic models like zero order, first order, Higuchi and Peppas. Results indicated that most of the samples followed non-Fickian release mechanism.  相似文献

In recent years, a number of ferritic interconnect materials for use in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) have been developed and are now commercially available. Although similar, there are substantial variations in minor alloying elements. This study compares the oxidation performance of five such interconnect materials: Crofer 22 H, Crofer 22 APU (ThyssenKrupp VDM), Sanergy HT (Sandvik Materials Technology), ZMG232 G10 (Hitachi Metals) and E-Brite (ATI Allegheny Ludlum).  相似文献

Dense β″-alumina electrolyte tubes with thickness less than 50 μm were slip cast on a porous substrate of β″-alumina. The resistance of the composite electrolyte was measured by a DC method. The area specific resistance of a thin layer electrolyte versus the full thickness electrolyte was lower by a factor of 1.6. The components of cell resistance were determined. It was concluded that interfacial resistance is a dominant factor in the electrolyte resistance.  相似文献
