The performance of an Er3+-doped fiber amplifier pumped by 0.98 μm InGaAs laser diodes (LDs) is reported. By using a fiber with low Er3+ content and optimizing the fiber length, a maximum signal gain of 37.8 dB at 30-mW pump power was realized at a signal wavelength of 1.536 μm. A maximum gain coefficient of 1.9 dB/mW at 14 mW pump power was achieved. It was found that the fiber amplifier pumped by the 0.98-μm LDs is twice as efficient as that pumped by 1.48-μm LDs, from the viewpoint of both required fiber length and the attained gain 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Liddle's syndrome is an autosomal inheritable disorder that causes hypertension due to excess function of sodium channel. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the DNA sequence of the amiloride-sensitive epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) in three patients who had low-renin hypertension with hypokalemia. The patients included a 24-year-old woman and her 20-year-old brother whose mother was hypertensive. The third patient was a 15-year-old girl with no family history of hypertension. METHODS: The DNA sequence of the ENaC was analyzed as follows. Venous blood samples were collected from the patients and total genomic DNA was prepared by standard methods. Specific primers were used for direct polymerase chain reaction; one set of primers for amplifying the C terminus (codon 523-638) of the , subunit of ENaC, and two sets of primers for amplifying the C terminus (codons 525-587 and 568-650) of the y subunit of ENaC. Polymerase chain reaction products were purified and subjected to direct DNA sequence analysis. RESULTS: Direct sequence analysis demonstrated the presence of a single-base substitution in one segment of the 0 subunit of ENaC, a C-T transition that changed the encoded Pro (CCC) at codon 616 to Ser (TCC) in the siblings (cases 1 and 2). In case 3, we found a missense mutation of Pro (CCC) to Leu (CTC) at codon 616. Case 3 is considered to be sporadic, since DNA sequencing of the PY motif of her parents gave normal results. CONCLUSIONS: The DNA sequences of the ENaC in three patients with Liddle's syndrome were analyzed. In one family case, we found a new missense mutation of Pro (CCC) to Ser (TCC) at codon 616 in the 0 subunit of ENaC. A genetic analysis of the amiloride-sensitive epithelial sodium channel is recommended in assessing patients with low-renin, salt-sensitive hypertension whose blood pressure is not responsive to spironolactone treatment. 相似文献

Most studies on preconception diagnosis published so far have used polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis to identify single gene defects. Although fluorescent DNA probes have been used to obtain a partial cytogenetic diagnosis of aneuploidies in first polar bodies without defined chromosome structures, the analysis of structural chromosome anomalies in the interphase nucleus is not adequate. We describe a procedure to obtain first polar body chromosome complements from hamster and human oocytes. In 63.6% (105 of 165) of hamster first polar bodies the chromosome complement showed a defined chromosome morphology and in 94.1% (16 of 17) of human oocytes fixed after follicular puncture it was possible to obtain high quality, well spread chromosome complements. First polar body chromosomes are fuzzy and shorter than oocyte chromosomes, but fluorescent in-situ hybridization results obtained in human first polar bodies clearly show that it is possible to detect whole chromosomes, centromeres and unique sequences, including the terminal regions of small chromosomes. This suggests that in fresh oocytes, DNA loss resulting from apoptotic chromosome fragmentation has not yet occurred. Using the procedure described, first polar bodies could be used to analyse the meiotic segregation of maternal structural abnormalities and to detect numerical chromosome anomalies in humans. 相似文献

Here we report a case of Sj?gren's syndrome (SS) accompanied by transverse myelitis. A 46-year-old woman with 7-year history of primary SS was admitted to Tokyo Metropolitan Ohtsuka Hospital in September 1997 because of muscular weakness in lower extremities. She had had a low grade fever, numbness, and pain in bilateral lower extremities since July 1992. Neurological examination revealed transverse myelopathy at the level of Th 4, and peripheral neuropathy in lower extremities. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis showed slight elevation of protein and the cell count. A diagnosis of transverse myelitis and peripheral neuropathy presenting as neurologic manifestations of SS was made. Treatment was initiated with 30 mg of prednisolone, followed by improvement of fever and neurological findings. Although central nervous system complications of SS have been presented in Western countries, little information is available about Japanese patients. To our knowledge, this is the second case report which describes the occurrence of transverse myelitis in Japanese patients with SS. 相似文献

The class of bipartite permutation graphs is the intersection of two well known graph classes: bipartite graphs and permutation graphs. A complete bipartite decomposition of a bipartite permutation graph is proposed in this note. The decomposition gives a linear structure of bipartite permutation graphs, and it can be obtained in O(n) time, where n is the number of vertices. As an application of the decomposition, we show an O(n) time and space algorithm for finding a longest path in a bipartite permutation graph. 相似文献

The VPN (Virtual Private Network) technique is becoming increasingly popular as a way to protect the contents of messages and to achieve secure communications immune to such activities as eavesdropping. However, although VPN servers are increasingly used on a subnetwork in part of an officewide network, the PPTP system included in the Windows operating systems cannot establish nested VPN links. Moreover, encrypted communication by VPN hides the user of the VPN connection, and consequently the administrators of network systems cannot determine the users of the VPN connection via the firewall, or decide whether a user is legal or not. In order to solve this problem, we developed a multistep PPTP relay system on a firewall. This system solves all the problems of our previously developed PPTP relay system [1]. The new relay system improves security by end‐to‐end encryption of communication and eliminates the prior registration of passwords for the next step. Furthermore, the transport speed is increased and the restriction on the number of relay steps is also eliminated. These features of the multistep PPTP relay system expand its usability. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hajikami (ginger pickled in vinegar) is often used as a relish for grilled fish, and it often contains coloring agents. We detected Rose Bengal (R105) and two unknown dyes in some Hajikami by thin layer chromatography. In this study, we tried to characterize these unknown dyes by HPLC with photodiode array detection (PDA-HPLC), liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). PDA-HPLC analysis showed that the spectra of the unknown dyes resembled that of R105, suggesting the molecular structures of these two dyes are similar to that of R105. Furthermore, LC/MS analysis suggested that the these dyes are R105 in which one or two iodines are replaced by hydrogen. Finally, the two dyes were determined by 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR to be 4,5,6,7-tetrachloro-3',6'-dihydroxy-2',7'-diiodo spiro[isobenzofuran- 1 (3H),9'-[9H]xanthen]-3-one disodium salt and 4,5,6,7-tetrachloro-3',6'-dihydroxy-2',7'-diiodo spiro[isobenzofuran-1(3H),9'[9H]xanthen]-3-one disodium salt. 相似文献

High-power operation in 0.98-μm strained-layer InGaAs-GaAssingle-quantum-well ridge waveguide lasers
High power strained-layer InGaAs-GaAs graded-index separate confinement heterostructure (GRIN-SCH) single-quantum-well (SQW) lasers at an emission wavelength of 0.98 μm have been fabricated. BACKGROUND: In order to provide a morphological basis for the understanding of the role of nitric oxide (NO) in autonomic preganglionic neurons, the present study was designed to clarify the localization and distribution of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate diaphorase (NADPH-d) activity, a marker of NO synthase, in the rabbit spinal cord. METHODS: 11 Chinchilla rabbits of both sexes were used in this study. Animals were kept under conditions of controlled light and heat regimens. NADPH-d activity was examined by histochemical methods. RESULTS: The presence of NADPH-d activity in the spinal cord was detected in the dorsal horn, around the central canal (lamina X) and in autonomic preganglionic neurons. Focused on the latter, there was a prominent NADPH-d activity between T1 and L5 segments in the intermediate zone and less intensive NADPH-d staining between S1 and S3 segments. Differences between the two parts of the autonomic system were seen in the arrangement (periodical in sympathetic, and continuous in parasympathetic), in the length of neuronal processes length (shorter in sacral preganglionic neurons) and in their localization (both are seen in the intermediolateral nucleus, but neurons of the sympathetic autonomic system can be found also medially towards the central canal, whilst those of the parasympathetic system were not).
