We have studied the growth of silicon nanowires (SiNWs) by means of transmission electron microscopy. SiNWs are grown from nanocatalysts via the Vapor-Liquid-Solid (VLS) mechanism using silane (SiH4) gas as a source gas. The nanocatalysts are prepared on a hydrogen (H)-terminated Si surface. We have examined the formation mechanism of nanocatalysts on H-terminated surface and have observed several structural variants of SiNWs. According to the study we have suggested that many structural variations of SiNWs are possible, which modify the structural properties of SiNWs to great extents.  相似文献

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra were measured for monolayers of various amino acids: L-methionine (Met), L-cysteine (Cys), L-glycine (Gly), L-leucine (Leu), L-phenylalanine (Phe), and L-proline (Pro) and their homodipeptides (Met-Met, Cys-Cys, Gly-Gly, Leu-Leu, Phe-Phe, and Pro-Pro) deposited onto a colloidal gold surface. Orientation of amino acids and their homodipeptides, as well as specific-competitive interactions of their functional groups with the gold surface, were predicted by detailed spectral analysis of the obtained SERS spectra. The analysis performed allowed us to propose a particular surface geometry for each amino acid and homodipeptide on the gold surface. In addition, we compared the structures of these molecules adsorbed on colloidal gold and silver surfaces.  相似文献

The probability of the selective two-step photoionisation of 235U atoms by laser and ultraviolet radiations is estimated from the rate equations for uranium atoms with two isotopes with three levels. The population of 235U ions is obtained by linearising the rate equations. We have calculated the ion production rates for three cases in which the laser and ultraviolet powers are changed while the atom density is kept constant. The power consumption and the capital investment required for the large-scale laser enrichment plant conceptionally designed based upon the above results, and consequently the unit cost of separative work, are estimated. It is concluded that the laser isotope separation process could be competitive with the conventional gaseous diffusion and gas centrifugal methods.  相似文献

Two types of nanophotonic technologies—two-dimensional photonic crystal (2D PC) slab waveguides (WGs) and quantum dots (QDs)—were developed for key photonic device structures in the future. For an ultrafast digital photonic network, an ultrasmall and ultrafast symmetrical Mach–Zehnder (SMZ)-type all-optical switch (PC-SMZ) and an optical flip–flop device (PC-FF) have been developed. To realize these devices, one method is to develop a selective-area molecular beam epitaxial growth QD technique by employing a metal mask method. Another method is to establish a new design method, i.e., topology optimization of the 2DPC WG with a wide and flat bandwidth, high transmittance, and low reflectivity. We also fabricated an optical microcavity in a photonic crystal slab embedded with GaAs QDs by droplet epitaxy. The Purcell effect on the exciton emission of GaAs QDs was confirmed by microphotoluminescence and lifetime measurements.  相似文献

Specification tests defined in the Japanese Food Sanitation Law were conducted on 7 polylactic acid food-contact products. Moreover, the content and migration of other compounds were examined by means of ICP-AES, GC/MS and mutagenicity tests. All products met their specifications, and migration levels of heavy metals were negligible. No notable peak was observed in GC/MS analysis. Moreover, all products gave negative results in both rec-assay and the umu-test. An increase in the β-galactosidase activity in the umu-test observed with the migration solution of soup bowl was due not to polylactic acid, but to the polyurethane coating.  相似文献

To characterize the rubble and trees contaminated by radionuclides released by the recent accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, the radiochemical analysis protocols were modified using those developed by the Japan Atomic Energy Agency for the waste generated by research, industrial, and medical facilities. The radioactivity concentrations of gamma-ray-emitting nuclides 60Co, 94Nb, 152Eu, and 154Eu, and beta-particle-emitting nuclides 14C, 129I, 36Cl, 79Se, and 99Tc were successfully applied by the modified analytical method. In contrast, the radioactivity concentrations of 3H, 90Sr, 137Cs, and alpha-particle-emitting nuclides were applied by the conventional method. Unfortunately, 36Cl, 94Nb, 129I, 152Eu, 154Eu, and alpha-particle-emitting nuclides were below the detection limit of the conventional method. The measured radioactivity concentrations, except for that of 3H, were not uniform in the area but depended on the reactor unit. Although the radioactivity concentrations were varied widely, this analysis successfully clarified the characteristics of the radioactivity concentrations of the rubble and trees.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Multiple lines of evidence suggest that brain serotonergic systems may be disturbed in seasonal affective disorder (SAD). Previously, we found that the serotonergic agent meta-chlorophenylpiperazine (m-CPP) produced increases in activation and euphoria in depressed patients with SAD, but not in patients with SAD following light treatment or in the summer, nor in healthy control subjects in any condition. In the present study, we attempted to replicate and extend this finding using better methods. METHODS: Seventeen outpatients with SAD and 15 control subjects underwent successive 3-week periods of bright light treatment and light avoidance in a randomized order. During the third week of each condition, on 2 different occasions, subjects were admitted to the hospital for a night of sleep (core temperatures were recorded), followed by infusions of m-CPP (0.08 mg/kg) or placebo the next morning. Dependent measures included the 24-item National Institute of Mental Health Self-Rating Scale, plasma corticotropin, cortisol, prolactin, growth hormone, and norepinephrine concentrations, and core temperatures. RESULTS: Meta-chlorophenylpiperazine produced (1) significant increases in "activation-euphoria" ratings only in depressed patients with SAD in the untreated condition and (2) blunted corticotropin and norepinephrine responses in patients with SAD compared with controls across both light treatment conditions. In both groups, light treatment was associated with significant reductions in nocturnal core temperatures, which were correlated with similarly significant reductions in mean diurnal growth hormone concentrations. In patients with SAD, (1) the reductions in nocturnal core temperatures also were correlated with the reductions in baseline depression ratings and (2) the reductions in mean growth hormone concentrations were significantly smaller compared with controls. CONCLUSIONS: The abnormal m-CPP-induced activation-euphoria responses represent a replicated state marker of winter depression in patients with SAD. The blunted m-CPP-induced responsiveness of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and the sympathetic nervous system may represent traitlike abnormalities. The improvements in mood following light treatment in patients with SAD seem to be associated with the lowering of nocturnal core temperatures. The findings, although not easily explained based on a uniform abnormality of serotonin receptors, are nonetheless compatible with the notion that selected regions of the central nervous system are deficient in serotonin transmission during winter depression.  相似文献

Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles are some of the most commonly used containers for beverages. During the manufacturing process of PET resin in Japan, metallic catalysts such as Sb and Ge are widely used, with other metals or metallic compounds also being employed to improve the quality of PET bottles. However, few reports into the contents of such elements exist. Thus, we herein report the concentrations of 34 elements (ie, Li, B, Na, Mg, Al, P, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, As, Se, Rb, Sr, Zr, Mo, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Cs, Ba, W, Pb, and U) in 16 samples of unused virgin PET bottles for beverages. The measurement was performed by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and these bottles were found to contain five main elements (ie, <0.5- to 50-mg/kg Ge, <1- to 26-mg/kg Ti, <0.1- to 279-mg/kg Sb, <10- to 48-mg/kg P, and <0.5- to 53-mg/kg Co) that were used as polymerisation catalysts, stabilisers, oxidation catalysts, and bluing agents. Furthermore, when these residual element concentrations in 21 commercial mineral-water PET bottles were determined, there was no significant difference from unused bottles.  相似文献

Organic photovoltaic devices based on a blend of poly(3-hexylthiophene) and a fullerene have been studied by inserting oriented zinc oxide nanopillars which were fabricated by a new method at low temperature (343?K). The dependence of the photovoltaic performance on the zinc oxide morphology was investigated, and it is concluded that the oriented zinc oxide nanopillar array plays an important role in collecting photogenerated electrons and acts as a conducting path to the electrode. Insertion of the oriented zinc oxide nanopillars in the photovoltaic cells produced enhanced performance with a power conversion efficiency of 1.22% under AM1.5 illumination.  相似文献
