Projection system with brightness amplifier for biology and medicine.

Some results of investigation of biological systems using laser projection microscope is given. The scheme permitted to work both in reflected and transmitting light. The image of a living cell on a large screen was observed.     

Energy and charge distributions in nanosecond vacuum spark plasma flux

The characteristics of vacuum sparks formed under the action of a 4-ns high-voltage pulse with an amplitude of 150 kV have been studied. Ions of a cathode material (copper or graphite) with energies of up to 150 keV were found in the flux of plasma from the cathode region. In the case of a graphite cathode, only singly charged carbon ions with a dome-shaped energy distribution were observed. For a copper cathode, differently charges ions (+1, +2, +3) were detected and their energy distribution exhibited several maxima. The characteristic ion energies depended on the interelectrode distance.     

Drainage of the thoracic lymphatic duct and lymphosorption in the combined treatment of obstruction of the bile ducts and liver failure

Results of the application of the method of drainage of the lymphatic duct and lymphosorption in the complex treatment of 108 patients with obstruction of the bile eliminating ducts complicated by mechanical jaundice and hepatic insufficiency are described. Activated charcoal SKN, SUGS and SKT-6A were used for the sorption lymph detoxication. A pronounced detoxication effect of the sorption purification of the lymph with the activated charcoal and its reinfusion to the patient in the pre- and postoperative periods is shown.     

Errors in diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cysts

The authors observed 136 patients with pancreatic cysts. Complicated forms of the disease were found in 26 patients. It was established that despite apparent signs of disturbed functioning of the pancreas for a long time there was not a single case of correct diagnosis in local hospitals. The greatest amount of errors were made in surgical interventions in patients with pancreatic cysts.     

Thermoelectric Properties of Cation-Substituted Solid Solutions Based on Layered Tetradymite-like Compounds

It is shown that isovalent cation substitutions in the Ge(Bi_{1 – x} Sb _x )₄Te₇ (0 < x < 1) and Pb_{1 – x} Sn _x Bi₄Te₇ (0 < x < 1) solid-solution systems ensure a markedly reduced lattice thermal conductivity in comparison with the constituent ternary chalcogenides. In the Ge(Bi_{1 – x} Sb _x )₄Te₇ system, increasing the Sb content leads to a conversion from n- to p-type. Cu-doped PbBi_{4 – x} Cd _x Te₇ solid solutions (heterovalent substitution) are n-type and surpass PbBi₄Te₇ in the thermoelectric figure of merit.
