The metal-insulator transition in correlated electron systems, where electron states transform from itinerant to localized, has been one of the central themes of condensed-matter physics for more than half a century. The persistence of this question has been a consequence both of the intricacy of the fundamental issues and the growing recognition of the complexities that arise in real materials, when strong repulsive interactions play the primary role. The initial concept of Mott was based on the relative importance of kinetic hopping (measured by the bandwidth) and onsite repulsion of electrons. Real materials, however, have many further degrees of freedom that, as is recently attracting note, give rise to a rich variety of scenarios for a 'Mott transition'. Here, we report results for the classic correlated insulator MnO that reproduce a simultaneous moment collapse, volume collapse and metallization transition near the observed pressure, and identify the mechanism as collapse of the magnetic moment due to an increase of crystal-field splitting, rather than to variation in the bandwidth.  相似文献

d-Serine is an endogenous ligand for N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, and alterations in its concentration have been related to several brain disorders, especially schizophrenia. It is therefore an important target neuromodulator for the pharmaceutical industry. To monitor d-serine levels in vivo, we have developed a microbiosensor based on cylindrical platinum microelectrodes, covered with a membrane of poly-m-phenylenediamine (PPD) and a layer of immobilized d-amino acid oxidase from the yeast Rhodotorula gracilis (RgDAAO). By detecting the hydrogen peroxide produced by enzymatic degradation of d-serine, this microbiosensor shows a detection limit of 16 nM and a mean response time of 2 s. Interferences by ascorbic acid, uric acid, l-cysteine, and by biogenic amines and their metabolites are rejected at more than 97% by the PPD layer. Although several d-amino acids are potential substrates for RgDAAO, d-serine was the only endogenous substrate present in sufficient concentration to be detected by our microbiosensor in the central nervous system. When implanted in the cortex of anesthetized rats, this microbiosensor detected the increase in concentration of d-serine resulting from its diffusion across the blood-brain barrier after an intraperitoneal injection. This new device will make it possible to investigate in vivo the variations in d-serine concentrations occurring under normal and pathological conditions and to assess the pharmacological potency of new drugs designed to impact d-serine metabolism.  相似文献

Plasma chemical technology is experimentally applied to the fabrication of a Bi-activated alumosilicate-core pure-silica-cladding fiber preform. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time this technology has been applied in this way. We measure gain efficiency at pumping by a 1058 nm wavelength Yb fiber laser in a piece of a newly obtained fiber 20 m in length within 100-1200 nm wavelengths band. The gain efficiency reaches as high as 0.2 dB/mW. Bi-activated alumosilicate-core pure-silica-cladding fiber that is not more than 12 m in length serves a basis for a 1 W output power fiber laser emitting at the wavelength of 1160 nm with 8% slope efficiency. We also measure the photoluminescence spectrum and kinetics of Bi centers responsible for laser emission under the excitation of 193 nm wavelength ArF laser pulses.  相似文献

The banded structure formed in armco iron specimens as a result of equal-channel angular extrusion causes their strong shear localisation under quasi-static tension. Applying transmission electron microscopy technique, a fine structure of meso- and macroscopic shear bands was revealed. The character of shear band propagation was studied by calculation of the maximum in-plane shear strain through a digital image correlation procedure. It was shown two different patterns of macroband propagation: two parallel shear bands with oppositely directed shears or a cross of shear bands oriented along the conjugate direction of maximum tangential stresses. The necking was revealed to be caused by the disturbance of self-consistent propagation of deformation macrobands.  相似文献

Sorption recovery of palladium from nitric acid solutions on carbon adsorbents BAU, LKAU-7, ABG and UC has been investigated using model solutions with concentrations 8 × 10−4–8 × 10−3 mol/l for palladium and 1, 2 and 5 mol/l for nitric acid. The recovery degrees of Pd(II) depend on the concentration of palladium in contacting solutions as well as on the type of sorbent used. On average, they reach 60%–100% with the maximum in 1 M HNO3 The palladium desorption by 10% thiocarbamide solution in 1M H2SO4 proceeds completely for the sorbent LKAU-7. The use of thiocarbamide solutions in 0.1 M NaOH increases the desorption of palladium from the sorbents BAU and UC up to 80%–85%  相似文献

The formation of lead dioxide PbO(2), an important corrosion product in drinking water distribution systems with lead-bearing plumbing materials, has been hypothesized to involve Pb(III) intermediates, but their nature and formation mechanisms remain unexplored. This study employed the electrochemical (EC) method of rotating ring disk electrode (RRDE) and quantum chemical (QC) simulations to examine the generation of intermediates produced during the oxidation of Pb(II) to PbO(2). RRDE data demonstrate that PbO(2) deposition and reduction involves at least two intermediates. One of them is a soluble Pb(III) species that undergoes further transformations to yield immobilized PbO(2) nanoparticles. The formation of this intermediate in EC system is mediated by hydroxyl radicals (OH(?)), as was evidenced by the suppression of intermediates formation in the presence of the OH(?) scavenger para-chlorobenzoic acid. QC simulations confirmed that the oxidation of Pb(II) by OH(?) proceeds via Pb(III) species. These results show that Pb(III) intermediates play an important role in the reactions determining transitions between Pb(II) and Pb(IV) species and could impact lead release in drinking water.  相似文献

Five regional scale models with a horizontal domain covering the European continent and its surrounding seas, two hemispheric and one global scale model participated in the atmospheric Hg modelling intercomparison study. The models were compared between each other and with available measurements from 11 monitoring stations of the EMEP measurement network. Because only a very limited number of long-term measurement records of Hg were available, significant attention was given to the intercomparison of modelling results. Monthly and annually averaged values of Hg concentrations and depositions as well as items of the Hg deposition budgets for individual European countries were compared. The models demonstrated good agreement (within +/-20%) between annual modelled and observed values of gaseous elemental Hg. Modelled values of Hg wet deposition in Western and Central Europe agreed with the observations within +/-45%. The probability to predict wet depositions within a factor of 2 with regard to measurements was 50-70% for all the models. The scattering of modelling results for dry depositions of Hg was more significant (up to +/-50% at the annual scale and even higher for monthly data). Contribution of dry deposition to the total Hg deposition was estimated at 20-30% with elevated dry deposition fluxes during summer time. The participating models agree in their predictions of transboundary pollution for individual countries within +/-60% at the monthly scale and within +/-30% at the annual scale. For the cases investigated, all the models predict that the major part of national anthropogenic Hg emissions is transported outside the country territory.  相似文献

The paper presents the SmartGridRPC model, an extension of the GridRPC model, which aims to achieve higher performance. The traditional GridRPC provides a programming model and API for mapping individual tasks of an application in a distributed Grid environment, which is based on the client‐server model characterized by the star network topology. SmartGridRPC provides a programming model and API for mapping a group of tasks of an application in a distributed Grid environment, which is based on the fully connected network topology. The SmartGridRPC programming model and API and its performance advantages over the GridRPC model are outlined in this paper. The need to develop new antimicrobial peptides is due to the high resistance of pathogenic bacteria to traditional antibiotics now and in the future. The creation of synthetic peptide constructs is a common and successful approach to the development of new antimicrobial peptides. In this work, we use a simple, flexible, and scalable technique to create hybrid antimicrobial peptides containing amyloidogenic regions of the ribosomal S1 protein from Staphylococcus aureus. While the cell-penetrating peptide allows the peptide to enter the bacterial cell, the amyloidogenic site provides an antimicrobial effect by coaggregating with functional bacterial proteins. We have demonstrated the antimicrobial effects of the R23F, R23DI, and R23EI hybrid peptides against Staphylococcus aureus, methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Bacillus cereus. R23F, R23DI, and R23EI can be used as antimicrobial peptides against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria resistant to traditional antibiotics.  相似文献
