This paper describes support for flexibility, mobility and collaboration in engaging with, and making sense of, information. Our focus lies on the transitions people make between different, dynamic configurations of digital and physical materials, technologies, people and spaces. The technologies we describe have been developed in partnership with landscape architects over the past two years. We show that appliances and people can come together in a way that creates scope for such transitions, collaboration, and the emergence of new ways of working.  相似文献

Honey bees harvest resins from various plant species and use them in the hive as propolis. While there have been a number of studies concerning the chemical composition of this antimicrobial product, little is known about selective behavior and bee preference when different potential plant sources of resin are available. The main objective of this paper was to investigate some aspects of behavioral patterns of honeybees in the context of resin acquisition. Samples of propolis originating from temperate zones of Europe and the supposed botanical precursors of the product were analyzed. Taxonomical markers of bud resins of two white birch species, aspen, black poplar, horse-chestnut, black alder, and Scots pine were determined through GC-MS analysis. All these trees have been reported as sources of propolis, but comparisons of the chemical composition of their bud resins with the compositions of propolis samples from seven European countries have demonstrated the presence of taxonomical markers only from black poplar, aspen, and one species of birch. This suggests selective behavior during the collection of bud resins by honeybees. To examine the causes of such selectivity, the antimicrobial properties of bud resins were determined. Horse-chestnut resins had lower antimicrobial activity than the other resins which did not differ significantly.  相似文献

Biotransformation of ten α-haloacetophenones in the growing culture of the strain Rhodotorula rubra KCh 82 has been carried out. Nine of the substrates underwent an effective enantioselective reduction to the respective (R)-alcohols according to Prelog’s rule, with the exception of 2-chloro-1,2-diphenylethan-1-one that was not transformed by this strain. The expected reduction proceeded without dehalogenation, leading to the respective (R)-halohydrins in high yields. The use of this biocatalyst yielded (R)-2-bromo-1-phenyl-ethan-1-ol (enantiomeric excess (ee) = 97%) and its derivatives: 4''-Bromo- (ee = 99%); 4''-Chloro- (ee > 99%); 4''-Methoxy- (ee = 96%); 3''-Methoxy- (ee = 93%); 2''-Methoxy- (ee = 98%). There were also obtained and characterized 2,4''-dichloro-, 2,2'',4''-trichloro- and 2-chloro-4''-fluoro-phenyetan-1-ol with >99% of enantiomeric excesses.  相似文献

Recently, we identified 6 genomic loci affecting daughter yield deviations (DYD) for somatic cell score (SCS) in a genome-wide association study (GWAS) performed with German Holstein bulls. In the current study, we tested if these loci were associated with SCS in cows using their own performance data. The study was performed with 1,412 German Holstein cows, of which 483 were daughters of 71 bulls that had been used in the GWAS. We tested 10 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) representing 6 genomic regions that were associated with DYD for SCS in bulls. All tested SNP were significant in cows. Seven of them, located on Bos taurus autosomes (BTA) 6, 13, and 19, had the same direction of effect as those previously reported in the bull population. The most significant associations were detected on BTA6 and BTA19, accounting for 1.8% of the total genetic variance. The major allele of the 2 SNP on BTA6 and the minor allele of the 2 SNP on BTA19 were favorable for lower SCS. The differences between the homozygous genotype classes were up to 15,000 cells/mL. The verification of SNP associated with SCS in this study provides further evidence for the functional role of the linked genomic regions for immune response and contributes to identification of causative mutations. In particular, SNP with minor frequency of the favorable allele possess high potential to reduce SCS in German Holstein cattle by selection.  相似文献

A novel nanoporous carbon/electrolyte hybrid material is reported for use in actuation. The nanoporous carbon matrix provides a 3D network that combines mechanical strength, light weight, and low cost with an extremely high surface area. In contrast to lower dimensional nanomaterials, the nanoporous carbon matrix can be prepared in the form of macroscopic monolithic samples that can be loaded in compression. The hybrid material is formed by infiltrating the free internal pore volume of the carbon with an electrolyte. Actuation is prompted by polarizing the internal interfaces via an applied electric bias. It is found that the strain amplitude is proportional to the Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller (BET) mass specific surface area, with reversible volume strain amplitudes up to the exceptionally high value of 6.6%. The mass‐specific strain energy density compares favorably to reported values for piezoceramics and for nanoporous metal actuators.  相似文献

The objective of this paper is to provide a theoretical foundation for program extraction from inductive and coinductive proofs geared to practical applications. The novelties consist in the addition of inductive and coinductive definitions to a realizability interpretation for first-order proofs, a soundness proof for this system, and applications to the synthesis of non-trivial provably correct programs in the area of exact real number computation. We show that realizers, although per se untyped, can be assigned polymorphic recursive types and hence represent valid programs in a lazy functional programming language such as Haskell. Programs extracted from proofs using coinduction can be understood as perpetual processes producing infinite streams of data. Typical applications of such processes are computations in exact real arithmetic. As an example we show how to extract a program computing the average of two real numbers w.r.t. the binary signed digit representation.  相似文献

The present investigation reports on the application of a new antioxidant activity assay for the examination of flavonoids. It has been shown that the high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (HPLC–ED) measurements allow to obtain additional information about the antioxidative properties of pure compounds by measuring their half-wave potential, the chromatographic peak height, and the product of the peak height and exponent of potential. In comparison to the classical electrochemical measurements, the HPLC–ED is characterized by a much smaller detection limit. The results were compared with the standard photometric measurement based on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals. The possible antioxidant activity forecasting is also discussed.  相似文献

Our goal was to examine the anticancer effects of piperine against the resistant human ovarian cancer cells and to explore the molecular mechanisms responsible for its anticancer effects. Our study used drug-sensitive ovarian cancer cell line W1 and its sublines resistant to paclitaxel (PAC) and topotecan (TOP). We analyzed the cytotoxic effect of piperine and cytostatic drugs using an MTT assay. The impact of piperine on protein expression was determined by immunofluorescence and Western blot. We also examined its effect on cell proliferation and migration. We noticed a different level of piperine resistance between cell lines. Piperine increases the cytotoxic effect of PAC and TOP in drug-resistant cells. We observed an increase in PTPRK expression correlated with decreased pTYR level after piperine treatment and downregulation of P-gp and BCRP expression. We also noted a decrease in COL3A1 and TGFBI expression in investigated cell lines and increased COL3A1 expression in media from W1PR2 cells. The expression of Ki67 protein and cell proliferation rate decreased after piperine treatment. Piperine markedly inhibited W1TR cell migration. Piperine can be considered a potential anticancer agent that can increase chemotherapy effectiveness in cancer patients.  相似文献
