The paper deals with the motion control of an induction motor. Because the nonlinear state equations describing the dynamics of such a machine can be embedded into a linear model with the rotor speed ω as a varying parameter, advantage is taken of some recent results on the control of linear parameter‐varying systems, thus ensuring stability independently of how the varying parameter changes in time within a compact set. The adopted control structure consists of a fast inner electric loop that controls the stator currents and an outer mechanical loop that generates the torque acting on the motor shaft. Of crucial importance is the design of the internal model controller for the current loop. In particular, it is proved that an algebraically equivalent electric motor model admits a Lyapunov function that, together with its Lyapunov derivative, is independent of ω and of all motor parameters. This result allows us to find an upper bound on the norm of the Youla–Kucera parameter that ensures robust stability against speed measurement errors. The need for adapting Hospital Information Systems (HISs) to new applications (aimed at clinical data management) and to the ever growing population requires an evolution from both the representation and the usability points of view. The goal of this paper is to discuss the interdependencies of the advanced data representation models necessary to the new HISs and the interaction requirements. In particular, we present the technical taken in the MILORD (Multimedia Interaction with Large Object-oriented Radiological and clinical Databases) project to implement a departmental environment which integrates different kinds of clinical data in a user-friendly and homogeneous way. The implementation platform of the MILORD system is based on results obtained in the KIWIS project, which produced an advanced knowledge-base environment for large database systems. The interaction with a HIS is analyzed identifying the HIS-specific interaction tasks, the typical phases of the interaction with an information system, and the necessary interaction paradigms. In particular we describe the approach adopted in KIWIS for overcoming the problem of querying object-oriented databases and we discuss the new requirements that multimediality poses on the interaction paradigms.  相似文献

Novel alpha-helical antimicrobial peptides have been devised by comparing the N-terminal sequences of many of these peptides from insect, frog and mammalian families, extracting common features, and creating sequence templates with which to design active peptides. Determination of the most frequent amino acids in the first 20 positions for over 80 different natural sequences allowed the design of one peptide, while a further three were based on the comparison of the sequences of alpha-helical antimicrobial peptides derived from the mammalian cathelicidin family of precursors. These peptides were predicted to assume a highly amphipathic alpha-helical conformation, as indicated by high mean hydrophobic moments. In fact, circular dichroism experiments showed clear transitions from random coil in aqueous solution to an alpha-helical conformation on addition of trifluoroethanol. All four peptides displayed a potent antibacterial activity against selected gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (minimum inhibitory concentrations in the range 1-8 microM), including some antibiotic resistant strains. Permeabilization of both the outer and cytoplasmic membranes of the gram-negative bacterium, Escherichia coli, by selected peptides was quite rapid and a dramatic drop in colony forming units was observed within 5 min in time-killing experiments. Permeabilization of the cytoplasmic membrane of the gram-positive bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus, was instead initially quite slow, gathering speed after 45 min, which corresponds to the time required for significant inactivation in time-killing studies. The cytotoxic activity of the peptides, determined on several normal and transformed cell lines, was generally low at values within the minimum inhibitory concentration range.  相似文献

The process of automatically extracting novel, useful and ultimately comprehensible information from large databases, known as data mining, has become of great importance due to the ever-increasing amounts of data collected by large organizations. In particular, the emphasis is devoted to heuristic search methods able to discover patterns that are hard or impossible to detect using standard query mechanisms and classical statistical techniques. In this paper an evolutionary system capable of extracting explicit classification rules is presented. Special interest is dedicated to find easily interpretable rules that may be used to make crucial decisions. A comparison with the findings achieved by other methods on a real problem, the breast cancer diagnosis, is performed.  相似文献

This paper describes a fire performance assessment of a sandwich panel selected as the primary material in a high-performance house developed for the 2013 China Solar Decathlon competition. The sandwich panel has fiber reinforced polymer skins and a foam plastic core. Evaluation of fire performance showed that the selected panel would not comply with U.S. building code requirements for a single-family dwelling without additional protection. However, the use of an intumescent fire protective coating, coupled with the installation of a residential fire sprinkler system, is shown to be effective in meeting the intent of the fire and life safety requirements of the International Residential Code. Fire testing shows that the application of an intumescent fire protective coating to the panels significantly decreases the heat release rate, the smoke production characteristics, and the extent of flame spread on the panels.  相似文献

The stiffness degradation represents one of the most interesting damage phenomena used for describing the fatigue behaviour of composites. A critical aspect of modelling the damage is represented by the simulation of the whole behaviour of the composite and by the assessment of the actual stiffness for the models validation. In this work, the stiffness degradation of quasi‐isotropic carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) obtained by automated fibre placement has been assessed by means of thermoelastic stress analysis. The amplitude of temperature signal at the mechanical frequency (thermoelastic signal) was considered as an indicator of material degradation and compared with the data provided by an extensometer. The correlation between thermoelastic and mechanical data allowed to build a new experimental model for evaluating and predicting material stiffness degradation by just using thermoelastic data. The proposed approach seems to be very promising for stiffness degradation assessment of real and complex mechanical components subjected to actual loading conditions.  相似文献

The efficacy of ultrasound compared with ascending venography for the detection of deep venous thrombosis immediately after total knee arthroplasty was assessed after a 2-year interval. One hundred thirty-seven patients were eligible for the study; however, 31 patients received only one of the screening methods and a color Doppler examination was inconclusive in six patients. Therefore, 100 patients had a Doppler examination and a venogram. Overall, the sensitivity of ultrasound was 85%, the specificity 97%, the positive predictive value 85%, the negative predictive value 97%, and the accuracy 95%. The sensitivity in the calf was 83%, in the popliteal vein 86%, and in the femoral vein 100%. Two years ago, the initial assessment of ultrasound for the detection of deep venous thrombosis after surgery in patients who had total joint arthroplasty revealed a 75% sensitivity, 99% specificity, 91% positive predictive value, 97% negative predictive value, and 97% accuracy. The sensitivity in the calf was 83%; the sensitivity in the popliteal vein was 40%; and the sensitivity in the femoral vein was 50%. After 2 years of using this screening test with one technician and one radiologist, an improvement with this noninvasive technique was shown. However, it was found that Doppler imaging is not as sensitive as venography for detecting calf thrombi. Any imaging technique should be validated by each institution to determine the validity of the instrument and the learning curve of the technician administering the examination.  相似文献

Personal response services operating over public telephone networks are now widespread in Western Europe and North America. They serve the needs of a million people in the UK and a further two to three million elsewhere. While most clients are elderly, the scope of such services is extending to people with support needs of all ages, especially where there are medical risks or a likelihood of falls. Such services are, therefore, on a convergent course with those concerned with telemedicine. A study of two personal response services was carried out, one based in Ottawa (Canada) and the other in Oldham (UK). The parallels and contrasts were examined through a survey involving personal interviews with samples of clients. Thirty-eight valid personal interviews were completed, 20 in Ottawa and 18 in Oldham, representing 14% and 53% respectively of all service clients in the survey areas. It is concluded that services established within the health sector (such as many in Canada) are better placed to accommodate change. Convergence with telemedicine will, as a result, be facilitated. In the UK, health authorities and trusts are likely to develop their own telemedicine services in competition with current providers of personal response services, thus delaying convergence.  相似文献

This paper is focused on the optimization of transmitted power in a cooperative decoded relaying scheme for nodes belonging to the single primary route towards. a destination. The proposed transmission protocol, referred to as Multihop Cooperative Transmission Chain (MCTC), is based on the linear combination of copies of the same message by multiple previous terminals along the route in order to maximize the multihop diversity. Power allocations among transmitting nodes in the route can be obtained according to the average (not instantaneous) node-to-node path attenuation using a recursive power assignment. The latter can be employed locally on each node with limited signalling exchange (for fixed or nomadic terminals) among nodes. In this paper the power assignments for the MCTC strategy employing conventional linear combining schemes at receivers (i.e., selection combining, maximal ratio combining and equal gain combining) have been derived analytically when the power optimization is constrained to guarantee the end-to-end outage probability. In particular, we show that the power assignment that minimize the maximum spread of received power (min-max strategy) can efficiently exploit the multihop diversity. In addition, for ad hoc networks where the energy of each node is an issue, the MCTC protocol with the min-max power assignment increases considerably the network lifetime when compared to non-cooperative multihop schemes  相似文献
