In order to reveal the physical processes taking place within the "μ10" microwave discharge ion thruster, internal plasma diagnosis is indispensable. However, the ability of metallic probes to access microwave plasmas biased at a high voltage is limited from the standpoints of the disturbance created in the electric field and electrical isolation. In this study, the axial density profiles of excited neutral xenon were successfully measured under ion beam acceleration by using a novel laser absorption spectroscopy system. The target of the measurement was metastable Xe I 5p(5)((2)P(0) (3/2))6s[3/2](0) (2) which absorbed a wavelength of 823.16 nm. Signals from laser absorption spectroscopy that swept a single-mode optical fiber probe along the line of sight were differentiated and converted into axial number densities of the metastable neutral particles in the plasma source. These measurements revealed a 10(18) m(-3) order of metastable neutral particles situated in the waveguide, which caused two different modes during the operation of the μ10 thruster. This paper reports a novel spectroscopic measurement system with axial resolution for microwave plasma sources utilizing optical fiber probes.  相似文献

A series of benzylphenols has been evaluated as antioxidants for paraffin wax at 160 C. Introduction of the benzyl group to thepara- and/or ortho-positions to the hydroxyl group on the benzene ring was shown to improve antioxidative activities of phenols. Excellent activities have been observed with benzylpyrocatechols and benzyl-resorcinol. Antioxidant activities of benzylphenol compounds increased with the decrease of13C NMR chemical shifts (δ) of the ipsocarbon of the OH substituent.  相似文献

Mast cells (MCs) play critical roles in Th2 immune responses, including the defense against parasitic infections and the initiation of type I allergic reactions. In addition, MCs are involved in several immune-related responses, including those in bacterial infections, autoimmune diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, cancers, allograft rejections, and lifestyle diseases. Whereas antigen-specific IgE is a well-known activator of MCs, which express FcεRI on the cell surface, other receptors for cytokines, growth factors, pathogen-associated molecular patterns, and damage-associated molecular patterns also function as triggers of MC stimulation, resulting in the release of chemical mediators, eicosanoids, and various cytokines. In this review, we focus on the role of interleukin (IL)-10, an anti-inflammatory cytokine, in MC-mediated immune responses, in which MCs play roles not only as initiators of the immune response but also as suppressors of excessive inflammation. IL-10 exhibits diverse effects on the proliferation, differentiation, survival, and activation of MCs in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, IL-10 derived from MCs exerts beneficial and detrimental effects on the maintenance of tissue homeostasis and in several immune-related diseases including contact hypersensitivity, auto-immune diseases, and infections. This review introduces the effects of IL-10 on various events in MCs, and the roles of MCs in IL-10-related immune responses and as a source of IL-10.  相似文献

Diurnal variations of fossil secondary organic carbon (SOC) and nonfossil SOC were determined for the first time using a combination of several carbonaceous aerosol measurement techniques, including radiocarbon (1?C) determinations by accelerator mass spectrometry, and a receptor model (chemical mass balance, CMB) at a site downwind of Tokyo during the summer of 2007. Fossil SOC showed distinct diurnal variation with a maximum during daytime, whereas diurnal variation of nonfossil SOC was relatively small. This behavior was reproduced by a chemical transport model (CTM). However, the CTM underestimated the concentration of anthropogenic secondary organic aerosol (ASOA) by a factor of 4-7, suggesting that ASOA enhancement during daytime is not explained by production from volatile organic compounds that are traditionally considered major ASOA precursors. This result suggests that unidentified semivolatile organic compounds or multiphase chemistry may contribute largely to ASOA production. As our knowledge of production pathways of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) is still limited, diurnal variations of fossil and nonfossil SOC in our estimate give an important experimental constraint for future development of SOA models.  相似文献

Preparation of Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers and their catalytic performance for water gas shift (WGS) reactions have been explained in this work. The Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers were obtained by electrospinning poly-ethylene oxide (PEO) aqueous solutions containing Ti(OH)n slurry and Pt nanoparticles at room temperature, followed by calcination at 773 K for 4 h. The calcined nanofibers were rougher than the nanofibers of PEO/Ti(OH)n/Pt due to the PEO degradation and oxidation of Ti(OH)n to TiO2. Diameters of the Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers ranged between 200 and 900 nm. Catalytic activity of the Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers for water gas shift (WGS) reactions was evaluated and it was observed that their activity was 5–7 times higher than that of a bulk catalyst. Such improvement is attributed to the larger surface area of the nanofiber catalyst compared to that of the bulk catalyst. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration of a synthesis of Pt-loaded TiO2 nanofibers from a Ti(OH)n nanoparticle slurry using electrospinning and its application to WGS reactions.  相似文献

The feasibility of applying a polyethylene (PE) sponge as a biomass carrier in an anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) reactor and its nitrogen removal performance were also investigated. Experiments were carried out in an up-flow column reactor with synthetic inorganic wastewater. Experimental results indicate that reactor containing PE sponge biomass carriers showed a high nitrogen removal capability and exhibited stable performance. In addition, the reactor with 8 strips PE sponge as biomass carrier exhibited greater adaptation capacity compared to that with 6 strips and could achieve a high TN removal rate within a very short period. The ratio of NO2-N removal and NO3-N production to NH4-N removal for the reactor was 1.26:0.21. Furthermore, to investigate the bacterial composition of the mature community, 16S rRNA sequences were amplified by PCR and analyses were conducted using DNA databases. Results showed that a new kind of anammox microorganism (Kumadai-1) was the dominant species in the reactor when using PE sponge as a biomass carrier.  相似文献

Micafungin (FK463), a novel water-soluble echinocandin-like lipopeptide, exerted fungicidal action toward growing cells of Candida albicans at concentrations of 0.1 microg ml(-1) or above. The drug at these levels induced osmotically fragile cells and the resulting fungicidal effect was partially reversed when cultures were grown in the presence of an osmotic stabilizer. Candida cells incubated with fungicidal concentrations of micafungin gradually increased in size and/or became deformed. An electron microscopic study of such micafungin-treated cells revealed morphological alterations in the cell wall; deformation in contour, abnormal septum formation and decrease in thickness of the intermediate layer of the cell wall were prominent. In addition, the structure of cell membranes as well as of membranous cytoplasmic organelles was slightly impaired. These data suggest that micafungin principally affects the normal formation of the cell wall in growing Candida cells.  相似文献

1.3- and 1.55-/spl mu/m vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) on InP have been realized. High-reflectivity AlGaInAs-InP lattice matched distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) were grown on InP substrates. 1.7 (for 1.3 /spl mu/m) and 2.0 (for 1.55 /spl mu/m) mW single mode power at 25/spl deg/C, 0.6 mW single mode power at 85/spl deg/C and lasing operation at >100/spl deg/C have been achieved. 10 Gbit/s error free transmissions through 10 km standard single mode fiber for 1.3-/spl mu/m VCSELs, and through 15 km nonzero dispersion shift fiber for 1.55-/spl mu/m VCSELs, have been demonstrated. With the addition of an SOA, 100 km error free transmission at 10 Gbit/s also has been demonstrated through a negative dispersion fiber. No degradation has been observed after over 2500-h aging test.  相似文献
