With a view to gaining an in-depth assessment of the response of particleboards (PBs) to different in-service loading conditions, samples of high-density homogeneous PBs of sugarcane bagasse and castor oil polyurethane resin were manufactured and subjected to low velocity impacts using an instrumented drop weight impact tower and four different energy levels, namely 5, 10, 20 and 30 J. The prediction of the damage modes was assessed using Comsol Multiphysics\(^\circledR .\) In particular, the random distribution of the fibres and their lengths were reproduced through a robust model. The experimentally obtained dent depths due to the impactor were compared with the ones numerically simulated showing good agreement. The post-impact damage was evaluated by a simultaneous system of image acquisitions coming from two different sensors. In particular, thermograms were recorded during the heating up and cooling down phases, while the specklegrams were gathered one at room temperature (as reference) and the remaining during the cooling down phase. On one hand, the specklegrams were processed via a new software package named Ncorr v.1.2, which is an open-source subset-based 2D digital image correlation (DIC) package that combines modern DIC algorithms proposed in the literature with additional enhancements. On the other hand, the thermographic results linked to a square pulse were compared with those coming from the laser line thermography technique that heats a line-region on the surface of the sample instead of a spot. Surprisingly, both the vibrothermography and the line scanning thermography methods coupled with a robotized system show substantial advantages in the defect detection around the impacted zone.  相似文献

The unmodified R5 peptide from silaffin in the diatom Cylindrotheca fusiformis rapidly precipitates silica particles from neutral aqueous solutions of orthosilicic acid. A range of post-translational modifications found in R5 contribute toward tailoring silica morphologies in a species-specific manner. We investigated the specific effect of R5 lysine side-chain trimethylation, which adds permanent positive charges, on silica particle formation. Our studies revealed that a doubly trimethylated R5K3,4me3 peptide has reduced maximum activity yet, surprisingly, generates larger silica particles. Molecular dynamics simulations of R5K3,4me3 binding by the precursor orthosilicate anion revealed that orthosilicate preferentially associates with unmodified lysine side-chain amines and the peptide N terminus. Thus, larger silica particles arise from reduced orthosilicate association with trimethylated lysine side chains and their redirection to the N terminus of the R5 peptide.  相似文献

This work is an experimental study of the effects of nanoparticles with different characteristics and contents on foaming composites made of three different nanosilica particles with different geometrical and chemical surface properties in a polystyrene matrix. In addition to the general characteristics reported in our last study on the morphology of polymer–nanoparticle composites, this study shows that nanosilicas of larger sizes can result in foams of higher cell densities. Additionally, the cell densities of foams can be reduced if the nanoparticle surface becomes more affine to the polymer matrix chemically. These results show a correspondence with the effects of the characteristics of the nucleation agent on the nucleation of bubbles, which have been explored previously. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ZnO is a wide bandgap semiconductor with a direct bandgap of 3.32eV at room temperature. It is a candidate material for ultraviolet LED and laser. ZnO has an exciton binding energy of 60 meV, much higher than that of GaN. It is found to be significantly more radiation hard than Si, GaAs, and GaN, which is critical against wearing out during field emission. Furthermore, ZnO can also be made as transparent and highly conductive, or piezoelectric. ZnO nanotips can be grown at relatively low temperatures, giving ZnO a unique advantage over the other nanostructures of wide bandgap semiconductors, such as GaN and SiC. In the present work, we report the selective growth of ZnO nanotips on various substrates using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. ZnO nanotips grown on various substrates are single crystalline, n-type conductive and show good optical properties. The average size of the base of the nanotips is 40 nm. The room temperature photoluminescence peak is very intense and sharp with a full-width-half-maximum of 120 meV. These nanotips have potential applications in field emission devices, near-field microscopy, and UV photonics.  相似文献

Studies on the mechanisms of mineralization of connective tissues, have gained momentum in the recent past. In the present study, Biomimetic mineralization of modified fish scale collagen in vitro is reported. The fish scale collagen was crosslinked with 3-Aminopropyl triethoxysilane and the crosslinked collagen (FCSi) was characterized using conventional methods. The biomimetic mineralization capacity of FCSi was evaluated in SBF solution for 7 days. Formation of hydroxyapatite crystals on the matrix in vitro has been confirmed by FTIR, XRD and SEM-EDAX techniques. The FCSi may be used as a scaffold in bone tissue engineering and as an osteoinductive material in experimental animal models before applying clinically.  相似文献

Antioxidant capacity of oil soluble and water dispersible carnosic acid (CA) extracted from dried rosemary leaves using HPLC was evaluated at two different dosages (22.5 ppm vs 130 ppm) in raw and cooked ground buffalo meat patties and chicken patties. Irrespective of total phenolic content, CA extracts reduced (p < 0.05) the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) by 39%–47% and 37%–40% in cooked buffalo meat and chicken patties at lower dosage (22.5 ppm) relative to control samples. However, at higher dosage (130 ppm) the TBARS values were reduced (p < 0.05) by 86%–96% and 78%–87% in cooked buffalo meat and chicken patties compared to controls. The CA extracts were also effective in inhibiting (p < 0.05) peroxide value and free fatty acids in cooked buffalo meat and chicken patties. The CA extracts when used at higher dosage, were also effective in stabilizing raw buffalo meat color.  相似文献

We report a concise study on the influence of sulfuric acid concentration used in the hydrolysis of rice mill wastewater on biohydrogen production using pure as well as co-culture of Enterobacter aerogenes and Citrobacter freundii. A higher total reducing sugar release of 14.2 g/L was obtained with 1.5% sulfuric acid (v/v). The effect of pH on cumulative biohydrogen production from 1.5% acid hydrolyzed rice mill wastewater was investigated using pure and coculture of Enterobacter aerogenes and Citrobacter ferundii. The fermentative hydrogen production using mixed culture showed a maximum hydrogen yield of 1.61 mol/mol sugar. In addition, about 70% reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and higher volatile fatty acids (VFA) production were observed. Modified Logistic, Gompertz and Richards models were used to fit cumulative hydrogen production data whereas Logistic equation was used fit growth data. Richards model showed best fit and Logistic equation gave least error in predicting maximum hydrogen producing potential.  相似文献

This paper discusses the performance investigations of a single-stage metal hydride heat pump (SS-MHHP) working with five different alloy pairs, namely, MmNi4.6Al0.4/MmNi4.6Fe0.4, LaNi4.61Mn0.26Al0.13/La0.6Y0.4Ni4.8Mn0.2, LmNi4.91Sn0.15/Ti0.99Zr0.01V0.43Fe0.09Cr0.05Mn1.5, LaNi4.6Al0.4/MmNi4.15Fe0.85 and Zr0.9Ti0.1Cr0.9Fe1.1/Zr0.9Ti0.1Cr0.6Fe1.4. The performance of the system is predicted by solving the unsteady, two-dimensional coupled heat and mass transfer processes in metal hydride bed of cylindrical configuration using a fully implicit finite volume method. The influences of operating temperatures such as heat source (TH), heat sink (TM) and refrigeration (TC) temperatures on the coefficient of performance (COP) and specific cooling power (SCP) of the system are presented. The predicted hydride bed temperature profiles are compared with the experimental data reported in the literature and a reasonably good agreement is observed between them. The optimum operating temperature ranges of each pair of alloys are suggested. For the selected operating temperatures, a maximum COP of 0.66 is predicted for Zr0.9Ti0.1Cr0.9Fe1.1/Zr0.9Ti0.1Cr0.6Fe1.4 hydride pair, while LmNi4.91Sn0.15/Ti0.99Zr0.01V0.43Fe0.09Cr0.05Mn1.5 hydride pair produces the highest SCP of 53.25 W/kg of total mass of the system.  相似文献

In this paper, the hydriding kinetics of LaNi5, LaNi4.7Al0.3 and LmNi4.91Sn0.15 is presented. Experiments were carried out by maintaining the pressure ratio (supply pressure to equilibrium pressure at the mid-point of the pressure–concentration–isotherm) equal to 2 and by maintaining nearly isothermal reaction conditions. Two widely used reaction kinetics models, namely Johnson–Mehl–Avrami (JMA) model and Jander diffusion model (JDM) are considered for the analysis. Two JMA models are considered; in the first model, the order of the reaction is assumed as unit and in the second model, the rate constant is calculated by estimating the order by fitting the reaction kinetics data with a reaction kinetics equation. The activation energy and pre-exponential constants of the above-mentioned alloys are estimated by constructing the Arrhenius plot. Activation energies estimated from the different models are compared and the accurate values of activation energy for the different alloys are determined by comparing the reaction kinetics data obtained from the models with the experimental data. The rate-controlling step of the hydriding reaction is obtained for all the alloys investigated.  相似文献
