THEORETICAL ANALYSIS OF HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURE SHIFT CONVERTERS

Theoretical analysis is performed to study catalytic reaction of CO in bolh high and low temperature shift converters. The study includes comparison between model predictions and data collected from local industries in Kuwait. Theoretical models are developed to simulate temperature and conversion profiles of CO in both the high and low shift converters. Good fits are obtained between the theoretical predictions of exit CO conversion and axial temperature profiles and the collected data. Calculations show existence of an optimum feed temperature for the high temperature shift converter. Such an optimum does not exist for the low temperature shift system because of physical limitations on operating conditions. @KEYWORDS: Carbon monoxide, Shift converters.     

Minimum sensitivity pole placer

A method is presented for designing a constant-gain state feedback controller for assigning the closed-loop poles of a linear time-invariant multivariable system to desired locations which at the same time minimizes the sensitivity of these poles to variation in the parameters of the plant. A practical approach for robust control of flexible structures

This paper deals with the robust control of linear single-input, single-output (SISO) systems. First, general concepts of the frequency-domain approach are presented. We then focus on the particular problem of flexible structure and control. A new method is proposed which combines the advantages of hyperstability and small gain approaches. Finally, an application of an industrial sight system prototype is detailed.

Pickering Emulsion Polymerization of Styrene using Nano-SiO2 and Subsequent Use of the Produced Core–Shell Structures as Fillers for Ethylene Vinyl Acetate Copolymer and Polypropylene

Solid particles can stabilize emulsions instead of conventional surfactants. Emulsion polymerization of styrene, as an example of polymerizable oil, was processed in the present work after ultrasonication of styrene in water in the presence of silica nanoparticles as stabilizer. Field emission scanning electron microscopy, equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray unit, and transmission electron microscopy confirmed the formation of polystyrene particles covered by a sheath of self-assembled silica. Addition of these hybrids in different loadings (2–14 wt%) to polypropylene and ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer could improve their tensile strength and hardness. The mechanical enrichment could be attributed to the action of the silica shell layer to delay the phase separation process encountered between the polystyrene from one side and polypropylene/ethylene vinyl acetate from other side, which translates into different extents of reinforcements.

On the MMSE‐based multiuser millimeter wave MIMO hybrid precoding design

A hybrid MMSE‐based precoder and combiner design with low complexity is studied in this paper for both the downlink and uplink multiuser millimeter wave MIMO systems. At first, according to the underlying channel knowledge, the phases of the RF precoder and combiner are manipulated by using the MMSE criterion. On the basis of the MMSE‐based analog precoder design, the MMSE‐based digital baseband precoder can be readily derived. Thus, this method combines the advantage of using the MMSE precoding and phase extraction technique to obtain a reasonable solution. The proposed hybrid precoding design will be examined in both the uplink and downlink multiuser MIMO systems. Numerical results are presented to show that the proposed MMSE‐based hybrid precoding design is capable of attaining superior performance in terms of both the spectral efficiency and energy efficiency over the existing designs. Moreover, we will show that the MMSE‐based design can be readily extended to the multiuser millimeter wave MISO systems when only statistical channel state information is available.
