Effect of chemical composition on the flocculation dynamics of latex-based synthetic activated sludge 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This study investigates the effect of calcium, alginate, fibrous cellulose, and pH on the flocculation dynamics and final properties of synthetic activated sludges. A laboratory-scale batch reactor, fed with standard synthetic sludges was used. The effects of varying calcium concentration (5-25 mM), alginate concentration (25-125 mg/L), fibrous cellulose concentration (0.2-0.8 g/L) and pH (3-9) on the sludge characteristics were studied by varying one parameter whilst keeping the others constant. The results from experiments indicated that the calcium, alginate, fibrous cellulose, and pH had the critical effect on the aggregation rate, flocs size, and made the improvement of the final properties of sludge. Dynamic measurements have established the optimum conditions for floc formation and can accurately reflect the state of formation of the synthetic activated sludge flocs. These correlate well with measurements of settleability and turbidity of the synthetic activated sludge. The results of this study support the bonding theory and indicate that formation of cations-polymer complexes and polymer gelation are important means of flocculation. The development of synthetic activated sludges is suggested also to be a possible surrogate for studying the final properties of activated sludge. 相似文献

The MP2 and DFT/B3LYP methods at 6-311++G(d,p) and aug-cc-pdz basis sets have been used to probe the origin of relative stability preference for eclipsed acetaldehyde over its bisected counterpart. A relative energy stability range of 1.02 to 1.20 kcal/mol, in favor of the eclipsed conformer, was found and discussed. An NBO study at these chemistry levels complemented these findings and assigned the eclipsed acetaldehyde preference mainly to the vicinal antiperiplanar hyperconjugative interactions. The tautomeric interconversion between the more stable eclipsed acetaldehyde and vinyl alcohol has been achieved through a four-membered ring transition state (TS). The obtained barrier heights and relative stabilities of eclipsed acetaldehyde and the two conformers of vinyl alchol at these model chemistries have been estimated and discussed. 相似文献

Cripto-1 is an essential protein for human development that plays a key role in the early phase of gastrulation in the differentiation of an embryo as well as assists with wound healing processes. Importantly, Cripto-1 induces epithelial to mesenchymal transition to turn fixed epithelial cells into a more mobile mesenchymal phenotype through the downregulation of epithelial adhesion molecules such as E-cadherin, occludins, and claudins, and the upregulation of mesenchymal, mobile proteins, such as N-cadherin, Snail, and Slug. Consequently, Cripto-1’s role in inducing EMT to promote cell motility is beneficial in embryogenesis, but detrimental in the formation, progression and metastasis of malignant tumors. Indeed, Cripto-1 is found to be upregulated in most cancers, such as breast, lung, gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, cervical, ovarian, prostate, and skin cancers. Through its role in EMT, Cripto-1 can remodel cancer cells to enable them to travel through the extracellular matrix as well as blood and lymphatic vessels to metastasize to different organs. Southern pine specimens vacuum-treated with nano-zinc oxide (nano-ZnO) dispersions were evaluated for leach resistance and
UV protection. Virtually, no leaching occurred in any of the nano-ZnO–treated specimens in a laboratory leach test, even at
the highest retention of 13 kg/m3. However, specimens treated with high concentrations of nano-ZnO showed 58–65% chemical depletion after 12 months of outdoor
exposure. Protection from UV damage after 12 months exposure is visibly obvious on both exposed and unexposed surfaces compared
to untreated controls. Graying was markedly diminished, although checking occurred in all specimens. Nano-zinc oxide treatment
at a concentration of 2.5% or greater provided substantial resistance to water absorption following 12 months of outdoor exposure
compared to untreated and unweathered southern pine. We conclude that nano-zinc oxide can be utilized in new wood preservative
formulations to impart resistance to leaching, water absorption and UV damage of wood. 相似文献

The effect of surface modification of laser-cut 316L cardiovascular stents by low-T plasma nitriding was evaluated in terms
of mechanical properties and biocompatibility of the stents. The plasma nitriding was performed at 400, 450 or 500 °C using
various ratios of nitrogen–hydrogen gas mixtures. The flexibility and radial strength were measured in crimped and expanded
state of the stents, respectively. The mechanical properties could be adjusted and improved by plasma nitriding conducted
at temperatures lower than 450 °C and/or nitrogen content less than 10% in the treatment gas. An osteoblast cell culture model
system was utilized to investigate the effect of plasma nitriding of the stents on the biological response towards the stents,
using biological criteria such as cell viability, alkaline phosphatase and nitric oxide production. In terms of cell viability
and alkaline phosphatase production, the plasma nitriding procedure did not appear to negatively affect the biocompatibility
of the 316L steel stents. However, in terms of nitric oxide production that was slightly increased in the presence of the

At present, carbon nanotube supported Pd catalysts are synthesized via NaBH4 reduction method to investigate their electro catalytic activity thorough formic acid electro oxidation. In order to optimize the synthesis conditions such as %Pd amount (X1), NaBH4 amount (times, X2), water amount (ml, X3), and time (min., X4), Central Composite Design (CCD) experiments are designed and determined by the Design-Expert program to determine the maximum observed current (mA/mgPd). Formic acid electro oxidation current density of the catalyst is computed by the model as 974.80 mA/mg Pd for the catalyst prepared at optimum operating conditions (41.14 for %Pd amount, 280.23 NaBH4 amount, 26.80 ml water amount, and 167.14 min time) obtained with numerical optimization method in CCD. This computed value is very close to the experimentally measured value as 920 mA/mg Pd. Finally, formic acid fuel cell measurements were performed on the Pd/CNT catalyst prepared at optimum operating conditions and compared with the commercial Pd black and Pt black catalysts. As a result, Pd/CNT exhibits better performance compared to Pd black, revealing that Pd/CNT is a promising catalyst for the direct formic acid fuel cell measurements. 相似文献

AbstractFetuin-A is a glycoprotein structured molecule which is mostly released by the liver. As a multifunctional protein, fetuin-A has positive effects on health such as calcification, cardiovascular diseases and tumor development processes with various mechanisms, whereas it plays a negative role in the processes of obesity, diabetes and fatty liver disease. There are a large number of studies reporting that serum fetuin-A levels are affected by several dietary factors. It is reported in some of these studies that several nutrients increase fetuin-A release, while some others have adverse effects. It is put forward that some nutrients such as dairy products, curcumin, niacin, palmitate, coffee and alcohol consumption decrease fetuin-A level, and dietary omega-3 fatty acids intake may increase fetuin-A concentration. In addition, it is indicated that high blood glucose levels increase hepatic fetuin-A release by activating extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 enzymes and increased plasma free fatty acids do the same effect by increasing NF-KB activity. Despite these studies in the literature, there is not any review evaluating fetuin-A, chronic diseases and nutrition together. In the current study, in vitro inhibitory activity of several essential oils obtained from the cultivated plants, Foeniculum vulgare, Mentha piperita and M. spicata, Ocimum basilicum, Origanum majorana, O. onites, O. vulgare, Satureja cuneifolia, and a number of individual essential oil components of terpene and aromatic types were screened against 10 isolated strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) enzyme, which makes this microorganism quite resistant against the antibiotics: trimetoprime-sulfametoksazol, sulbactam-ampicilin, clavulonate-amoxicilin, ceftriaxon, cefepime, imipenem, ceftazidime, tobramicine, gentamisine, ofloxacin, and ciprofloksasin. All of the essential oils and the components exerted a remarkable inhibition ranging between 32 and 64 μg/mL against all of these strains as strong as the references (ampicilin and oflaxocin) inhibiting at 32 μg/mL. Besides, chemical compositions of the essential oils were elucidated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The essential oils and the pure components widely found in essential oils screened herein have shown remarkable inhibition against ESBL-producing K. pneumoniae strains, which leads to the suggestion that they may be used as food preservatives for this purpose. Practical Application: The essential oils obtained from Foeniculum vulgare, Mentha piperita and M. spicata, O.cimum basilicum, Origanum majorana, O. onites, O. vulgare, and Satureja cuneifolia as well as common essential oil components have shown notable inhibitory effects against 10 isolated strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) enzyme and they might be used as food preservative or ingredient. 相似文献
