A steady state liquid-liquid extractor model using the UNIFAC group contribution method for phase equilibria has been developed. A heuristic method, which limits the number of stage calculations per iteration to a low number is used, according to the residuals calculated in the previous iteration, the method either selects or rejects a stage for the calculations. With this approach, the same accuracy in results have been obtained at about half the computing time with respect to without use of heuristic method. The model has been applied to simulate staged extractors as well as continuous extractors (plate columns). The model is based on a very robust flash calculation routine and on a versatile package (UNIFAC) for the prediction of thermodynamic properties.  相似文献

From a clinical standpoint recovery of spinal nerve roots is less likely than that of peripheral nerves, despite their identical structures. This may be due to several factors including the length of gap to be bridged, changes in the proximal stump or neuroma, and chromatolysis. In this paper we discuss the roles of some of these factors in relation to the neuronal depopulation in the spinal cord anterior horn area following section of the anterior root. The lack of growth or the successful growth of the axon through the gap in the root influences the degree of depopulation in the anterior horn area.  相似文献

The effects of age on implicit memory were assessed in elderly and young adults using 2 priming procedures. Subjects also completed the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale—Revised (WAIS—R), 3 tests to assess frontal lobe function, and 2 recall and 2 recognition tests of explicit memory. In Experiment 1, subjects were exposed to the low-frequency member of a homophone pair in a test purported to assess general knowledge. The assessment of cognitive function in early life has recently become an issue for consideration in long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (LC-PUFA) supplementation studies. This article reviews the various means by which such assessment has been done in past LC-PUFA supplementation studies and provides some background on recent advances in the measurement of infant cognition that may need to be considered when planning or designing future supplementation studies. These include (i) consideration of the specificity of LC-PUFA effects on cognition, (ii) inclusion of multiple tasks or levels of measurement as outcome measures, and (iii) a stronger emphasis on developmental processes in the design of such studies.  相似文献

Mechanical Properties of Silicon Oxycarbide Ceramic Foams   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The mechanical properties of ceramic foams obtained through a novel process that uses the direct foaming and pyrolysis of preceramic polymer/polyurethane solutions were investigated. The elastic modulus, flexural strength, and compressive strengths were obtained for foams in the as-pyrolyzed condition; values up to 7.1 GPa, 13 MPa, and 11 MPa, respectively, were obtained. The strength of the foam was virtually unchanged at temperatures up to 1200°C in air; however, long-term exposure at 1200°C led to a moderate degradation in strength, which was attributed to the evolution of intrastrut porosity during the oxidation of residual free carbon, as well as devitrification of the foams struts.  相似文献

This paper presents a new procedure to construct families of spatial approximation-prediction functions which depend on several parameters. The method is based on partitions of the unity. In order to find optimal functions in these families we introduce a Vietoris simplicial set associated to an influence radius. We consider error estimators induced by these Vietoris simplicial sets. A computational implementation of these mathematical models has been developed to be applied to any kind of finite discrete data. Our methods provide a useful tool for the analysis of the spatial distribution of species, which is imperative for developing accurate and efficient management of endangered and invasive species, biological conservation programs, etc. We demonstrate the application of our method to the analysis of the spatial distribution of the grape moth Lobesia botrana (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) in the vineyards of La Rioja obtaining useful results for the management of this pest.  相似文献

In this paper we present a new route for the realization of crack-free zircon monoliths, at very low temperature (1200 °C). Zircon ceramics are for the first time synthesized from a mixture of preceramic polymers, consisting of silicone resins, filled with active nano-sized fillers, being ZrO2 nano-particles. The introduction of small quantities (up to 10 mol%) of TiO2 as a sintering aid, and of zircon micro-powders, as seeds, has been also considered. The additives demonstrated to be extremely effective in increasing the zircon yield, with a synergistic effect when used together. Moreover, an appropriate mixture of different preceramic polymers as SiO2 source was found to be critical for the obtainment of crack-free monoliths. This simple methodology demonstrated kinetic features comparable to those of sol–gel processes, but coupled with the possibility of an easy shaping of the desired ceramic before heat treatment.  相似文献

Canine X-linked muscular dystrophy (CXMD) is genetically homologous to Duchenne muscular dystrophy and shares the severe myopathy and lethal clinical development of the human disease. We used immunohistochemistry to characterize the time course of postnatal expression of adult fast, adult slow and developmental myosin in the muscle of CXMD dogs, carriers and healthy controls. We also characterized the expression of utrophin and dystrophin. This detailed immunolocalization study confirmed that postnatal muscle maturation is delayed in normal dogs compared to other animals and humans, and is only achieved at around 60 days. In CXMD dogs major derangement of myosin expression became evident from about 15 days; there was a selective loss of fibers expressing fast myosin and persistence of developmental fibers compared to controls. In carriers, the proportion of dystrophin-deficient fibers, which mainly expressed fast myosin, decreased with age. In controls and carriers utrophin was absent from muscle fiber surfaces in 2-day-old animals but present between 15 and 30 days, to mostly disappear by 60 days. In dystrophic animals, sarcolemmal expression of utrophin was more marked and persistent. That immature neonatal muscle from control dogs normally contains sarcolemmal utrophin may have implications for the success of utrophin up-regulation therapy to correct the dystrophic phenotype. The data of this study provide important baseline information for further studies on the development and progression of pathological changes in the muscle of CXMD dogs.  相似文献

Cochlear implants have been very successful in restoring partial hearing to profoundly deaf people. Many individuals with implants are now able to communicate and understand speech without lip-reading, and some are able to talk over the phone. Children with implants can develop spoken-language skills and attend normal schools (i.e., schools with normal-hearing children). The greatest benefits with cochlear implantation have occurred in patients who (1) acquired speech and language before their hearing loss, and (2) have shorter duration of deafness. Gradual, but steady, improvements in speech production and speech perception have also occurred in prelingually deafened adults or children.  相似文献

This paper studies the synthesis of structured triacylglycerols (STAGs) rich in palmitic and docosahexaenoic acids (PA and DHA) at sn-2 position and oleic acid (OA) at sn-1,3 positions by a four step process. First, triacylglycerols (TAGs) were obtained with 63–66 mol PA/100 mol total fatty acids and 10 mol DHA/100 mol by acidolysis of tuna oil and commercial PA, catalyzed by the non-positionally specific lipase Novozym 435. Then these TAGs were purified neutralizing the free fatty acids (FFAs) by KOH hydroethanolic solutions and extracting TAGs with hexane; these TAGs were completely recovered as pure TAGs (without FFAs). The third step involved the displacement of fatty acids located at sn-1,3 positions by acidolysis of PA and DHA enriched TAGs with OA rich FFAs, catalyzed by the sn-1,3 specific lipase DF from Rhizopus oryzae, immobilized on Accurel MP-1000; TAGs with 67 mol OA/100 mol at sn-1,3 positions and 52.1 and 15.4 mol PA and DHA, respectively, per 100 mol at sn-2 position were obtained. Both acidolysis reactions were carried out in stirred tank reactors (STRs) with lipase both dispersed in the reaction medium and contained in a cartridge filter attached to the stirrer rod. Finally STAGs were purified and obtained with yields of over 80 mol STAGs/100 mol STAGs in the reaction product (no FFAs were detected).  相似文献
