Error monitoring issues for common channel signaling

Motivated by field data which showed a large number of link changeovers and incidences of link oscillations between in-service and out-of-service states in common channel signalling (CCS) networks, a number of analyses of the link error monitoring procedures in the SS7 protocol were performed by the authors. This paper summarizes the results obtained thus far and include the following: (a) results of an exact analysis of the performance of the error monitoring procedures under both random and bursty errors; (b) a demonstration that there exists a range of error rates within which the error monitoring procedures of SS7 may induce frequent changeovers and changebacks; (c) an analysis of the performance of the SS7 level-2 transmission protocol to determine the tolerable error rates within which the delay requirements can be met; (d) a demonstration that the tolerable error rate depends strongly on various link and traffic characteristics, thereby implying that a single set of error monitor parameters will not work well in all situations; and (e) some recommendations on a customizable/adaptable scheme of error monitoring with a discussion on their implementability. These issues may be particularly relevant in the presence of anticipated increases in SS7 traffic due to widespread deployment of advanced intelligent network (AIN) and personal communications service (PCS) as well as for developing procedures for high-speed SS7 links currently under consideration by standards bodies     

P-N double quantum well resonant interband tunneling diode withpeak-to-valley current ratio of 144 at room temperature

The current-voltage characteristics of the P-N double quantum well resonant interband tunneling (RIT) diodes in InAlAs-InGaAs system have been improved in this letter. The peak-to-valley current ratio (PVCR) is as high as 144 at room temperature. As we know, this is the highest room temperature PVCR ever reported in any tunneling devices. Moreover, the influence of the central barrier thickness varying from 10 Å to 30 Å on the device characteristics is also studied     

A short-term longitudinal study of impulsivity and antisocial behavior.

Analyzes the relationships between impulsivity and antisocial behavior in a noninstitutionalized sample, taking into account the multidimensional nature of impulsivity and the diversity of types of antisocial behavior. Data were obtained in 1989 and 1990 from 1,226 adolescents aged 12–18 yrs as part of a longitudinal study of risk factors for drug abuse and delinquency. The patterns of stability or change of the various dimensions of antisocial behavior (rule breaking, vandalism, theft, aggression, and drug taking) in relation to impulsivity were investigated. The results support that self-report measures of impulsivity are closely correlated with antisocial behavior among adolescents. The longitudinally-oriented analysis of this work also shows that impulsivity is associated with a future increase in antisocial behavior. Performance of trellis coded-8PSK with cochannel interference

The performance of trellis coded-8PSK in the presence of cochannel interference is analyzed and compared with the performance of uncoded QPSK. The analytical expressions are derived and supported by simulating the bit error rate performance of different TC-8PSK systems. The analytical and simulation results show that TC-8PSK is slightly more robust to cochannel interference than uncoded QPSK     

用发射天线式微波等离子体CVD装置沉积大面积金刚石薄膜

在国内首次研制成功了高气压发射天线式微波等离子体辅助化学气相沉积金刚石薄膜装置，用该装置成功地在３英寸的单晶硅衬底上沉积了Φ７０ｍｍ的金刚石薄膜。这一成果填补了国内空白，对我国金刚石薄膜研究领域的设备更新换代和开发应用具有重要意义。     

Reperfusion injury delays healing of intestinal anastomosis in a rat

This SAEM position paper clarifies the role of emergency medicine in health care delivery. It builds upon the working definition of emergency medicine developed by the American College of Emergency Physicians in 1994 by describing the health care role of emergency physicians (EPs). EPs are first-contact providers who care for all patients regardless of age, gender, time of presentation, or ability to pay. They remain the only continuously accessible specialty for patients seeking help and solace in the health care system. They are an essential link in the health care continuum between primary care physicians, specialists, the out-of-hospital system, the patient, inpatient services, and communication services. The EP's role is in organizing and monitoring the emergency care delivery system. Part of this role is to better align the health care provider training and ability with the specific medical needs of a patient. The emergency health care system remains the essential medical safety net for all individuals needing care in this country.     

蚕庄金矿倾斜采场的地压研究

本文使用工程地质、室内试验及数值分析的方法对蚕庄金矿的倾斜矿房的地压活动规律进行了研究，得出了一些有价值的结论。     

Preparation and optical properties of CdxHg1-xTe doped silica glass

In this paper, the Cd_xHg_1-xTe (x=1-0.7) doped silica glass was prepared through two step sol-gel process and in-situ growth technique from tetraethoxysilane (TEOS), cadmium acetate, mercury acetate and telluric acid. The influence of various factors on the glass was studied. The structure of the microcrystals was investigated by XRD. The absorption and transmittance spectrum of the composite showed that the shift of absorption edge was in conformity with the quantum size effect. The third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility χ⁽³⁾ was measured by the degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM). The values of χ⁽³⁾ was in the range of 10^-11-10^-12 MO esu at wavelength of 1.06 μm.     

Kinetics of modification of the mitochondrial succinate-ubiquinone reductase by 5,5''-dithiobis-(2-nitro-benzoic acid)

In the present study, we examined the effect of the thromboxane/prostaglandin endoperoxide analogue U46619 on proliferation and hypertrophy in cultured rat vascular smooth muscle cells and the roles of protein kinase C and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) in the mediation of the hypertrophic response to U46619. Since an increase in basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) was previously shown to mediate the hypertrophic response to U46619, we also assessed the relationship between bFGF and TGF-beta in the expression of U46619 actions. U46619 increased [35S]methionine incorporation into protein and protein content of vascular smooth muscle cells but had no effect on cell number. A role for TGF-beta was supported by the following observations: (1) exogenous human TGF-beta 1 increased protein synthesis; (2) antibody to TGF-beta blocked both TGF-beta- and U46619-induced increases in protein content; (3) U46619 increased active and total TGF-beta bioactivities; and (4) the actions of U46619 on protein content and TGF-beta bioactivity were blocked by the thromboxane/prostaglandin endoperoxide receptor antagonist SQ 29,548. Previous observations had demonstrated a role for bFGF in the expression of U46619 actions on protein synthesis. Results of the present study suggest that TGF-beta and bFGF interact in mediating the protein synthetic response to U46619. First, the concentration of exogenous TGF-beta (10 pmol/L) alone required to produce a protein synthetic response equivalent to that induced by U46619 was much higher than the concentration of endogenous active TGF-beta that accumulated in the media in response to U46619 (0.7 pmol/L). Second, bFGF (20 ng/mL) increased total TGF-beta bioactivity and stimulated protein synthesis. The hyper-trophic response to bFGF was blocked by anti-TGF-beta. The ability of U46619 and bFGF to increase protein synthesis and protein content in vascular smooth muscle cells was associated with TGF-beta-induced suppression of proliferation, as evidenced by the ability of antibody to TGF-beta to enhance U46619- and bFGF-induced increases in [3H]thymidine incorporation into DNA. Results of the present study also supported a role for protein kinase C in the expression of U46619 and bFGF actions. U46619 increased protein kinase C activity in the particulate fraction of vascular smooth muscle cells. Moreover, the protein kinase C inhibitors GF109203X and staurosporine blocked U46619- and bFGF-induced increases in protein synthesis as well as active and total TGF-beta bioactivities. By contrast, the protein kinase C inhibitors did not prevent the increases in protein synthesis induced by exogenous TGF-beta. The results demonstrate that thromboxane/prostaglandin endoperoxide signals increased TGF-beta bioactivity via protein kinase C. Increases in both bFGF and TGF-beta are required for an optimal hypertrophic response to U46619. The hypertrophic response to TGF-beta occurs through a protein kinase C-independent pathway.
