Little is known about the hydrogenation of fused aromatic nuclei during the liquefaction of coal under the influence of Lewis acid catalysts. This study was conducted to establish the effects of catalyst acidity on the activity and selectivity of Lewis acid catalysts, the sources of hydrogen involved in hydrogenation and cracking, and the relations between reactant structure and reactivity. Two-ring aromatic and hydroaromatic compounds were used to simulate some of the structural units present in coal. The catalysts examined were ZnCl2 and AlCl3. ZnCl2 is less active than AlCl3 for both hydrogenation and cracking but it does not promote the formation of tars via Scholl condensation: Methyl or hydroxyl substitution of the reactants greatly enhances their reactivity towards hydrogenation and cracking. The source of hydrogen consumed during hydrogenation depends on the choice of catalyst. In the presence of AlCl3, Scholl condensation of aromatic nuclei serves as the principal source of hydrogen. Molecular hydrogen is used exclusively, though, when hydrogenation is catalysed by ZnCl2. The formation of reaction products and the trends in reactant reactivity can be interpreted on the basis of carbonium ion mechanisms. The results of this study provide a basis for assessing the extent of hydrogenation occurring during the liquefaction of coal using ZnCl2 or AlCl3.  相似文献

A steel dual-core self-centering brace (DC-SCB) is an innovative structural member that provides both energy dissipation and self-centering properties to structures, reducing maximum and residual drifts of structures in earthquakes. The axial deformation capacity of the DC-SCB is doubled by a parallel arrangement of two inner cores, one outer box and two sets of tensioning elements. This paper presents cyclic test results of a DC-SCB component and a fullscale one-story, one-bay steel frame with a DC-SCB. The DC-SCB that was near 8 m-long was tested to evaluate its cyclic behavior and durability. The DC-SCB performed well under a total of three increasing cyclic loading tests and 60 lowcycle fatigue loading tests without failure. The maximum axial load of the DC-SCB was near 1700 kN at an interstory drift of 2.5%. Moreover, a three-story dual-core self-centering braced frame (DC-SCBF) with a single-diagonal DC-SCB was designed and its first-story, one-bay DC-SCBF subassembly specimen was tested in multiple earthquake-type loadings. The one-story, one-bay subassembly frame specimen performed well up to an interstory drift of 2% with yielding at the column base and local buckling in the steel beam; no damage of the DC-SCB was found after all tests. The maximum residual drift of the DC-SCBF caused by beam local buckling was 0.5% in 2.0% drift cycles.  相似文献

We describe the use of stress birefringence in the creation of vortex illumination. A trifold symmetric stress pattern will provide an annular region that exhibits polarization vortices when illuminated with linearly polarized light and scalar vortices when illuminated with circularly polarized light. Epigenetic mechanisms, such as DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs are known regulators of gene expression and genomic stability in cell growth, development, and differentiation. Because epigenetic mechanisms can regulate several immune system elements, epigenetic alterations have been found in several autoimmune diseases. The purpose of this review is to discuss the epigenetic modifications, mainly DNA methylation, involved in autoimmune diseases in which T cells play a significant role. For example, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus display differential gene methylation, mostly hypomethylated 5′-C-phosphate-G-3′ (CpG) sites that may associate with disease activity. However, a clear association between DNA methylation, gene expression, and disease pathogenesis must be demonstrated. A better understanding of the impact of epigenetic modifications on the onset of autoimmunity will contribute to the design of novel therapeutic approaches for these diseases.  相似文献

A detailed stratigraphic investigation of the intercalation mechanism when graphite electrodes are immersed inside diluted perchloric(HClO4)and sulfuric(H2SO4)electrolytes is obtained by comparing results when graphite crystals are simply immersed in the same acid solutions.By combining time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry(ToF-SIMS)and in-situ atomic force microscopy(AFM),we provide a picture of the chemical species involved in the intercalation reaction.The depth intensity profile of the ion signals along the electrode crystal clearly shows a more complex mechanism for the intercalation process,where the local morphology of the basal plane plays a crucial role.Solvated anions are mostly located within the first tens of nanometers of graphite,but electrolytes also diffuse inside the buried layers for hundreds of nanometers,the latter process is also aided by the presence of mesoscopic crystal defects.Residual material from the electrolyte solution was found localized in well-defined circular spots,which represent preferential interaction areas.Interestingly,blister-like micro-structures similar to those observed on the highly oriented pyrolytic graphite(HOPG)surface were found in the buried layers,confirming the equivalence of the chemical condition on the graphite surface and in the underneath layers.  相似文献

One usual way to strengthen a metal is to add alloying elements and to control the size and the density of the precipitates obtained. However, precipitation in multicomponent alloys can take complex pathways depending on the relative diffusivity of solute atoms and on the relative driving forces involved. In Al-Zr-Sc alloys, atomic simulations based on first-principle calculations combined with various complementary experimental approaches working at different scales reveal a strongly inhomogeneous structure of the precipitates: owing to the much faster diffusivity of Sc compared with Zr in the solid solution, and to the absence of Zr and Sc diffusion inside the precipitates, the precipitate core is mostly Sc-rich, whereas the external shell is Zr-rich. This explains previous observations of an enhanced nucleation rate in Al-Zr-Sc alloys compared with binary Al-Sc alloys, along with much higher resistance to Ostwald ripening, two features of the utmost importance in the field of light high-strength materials.  相似文献

In this paper, explicit formulas for second order derivatives of the residual vector with respect to the state variables for a geometrically exact 3D beam element based on the Reissner's model are presented. These derivatives are required when a direct non‐linear stability eigenvalue problem is solved by the Newton's method. If the external load is parametrized by a single parameter, such an eigenvalue problem consists of solving the critical state variables, the eigenmode, and the critical load parameter from the equation system consisting of the equilibrium equations, the criticality condition, and some auxiliary conditions depending on the type of a critical point. A scalable bottom‐up solution‐based approach for the site‐specific realization of ZnO nanowire (ZnO‐NW)‐based field‐effect transistors for sensing applications in liquids is reported. The nanowires are grown across predefined electrodes patterned by photolithography. Site specificity is attained by the use of nanoparticles acting as seeds. Using integrated on‐chip microchannels and microfabricated gate electrodes, electrochemically gated ZnO‐NW network transistors functioning in liquids are demonstrated. The optimized devices are rendered sensitive to pH through chemical functionalization. The unique combination of the sensitivity, site specificity, scalability, and cost effectiveness of the technique opens up avenues for the routine realization of one‐dimensional nanostructure‐based chemical and biosensors for analytical and diagnostic applications.  相似文献

Burt (2009) recently published a meta-analysis of twin studies on behaviors associated with childhood psychopathologies, concluding that the finding that traits associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) were the only behaviors that did not show a significant influence of shared environment (C) was surprising. We agree, highlighting four methodological issues that may account for this finding: (a) the use of nonlinear transformations to normalize skewed data; (b) low power to detect C and the subsequent presentation of reduced models; (c) the negative confounding of dominant genetic (D) and C influences in twin models with data exclusively from monozygotic and dizygotic twin pairs reared together; and (d) the correction used for contrast effects (a form of rater bias), which may lead to an overestimate of additive genetic (A) or D parameters at the expense of C. We offer suggestions for future research to address these issues, and we emphasize the need for additional research to examine possible shared environmental factors related to ADHD.
