Dipodal fluorescent chemosensor for Cu and resultant complex as a chemosensor for iodide

A dipodal receptor was synthesized by condensation of isophthalaldehyde and p-toluenesulfonylhydrazide. The receptor was found to be selective for Cu²⁺ recognition in CH₃CN. The resultant Cu²⁺ receptor complex selectively recognized iodide through cation displacement assay in a CH₃CN/H₂O (8:2, v/v) solvent system.     

Preparation,Characterization, and Reactions of Dinuclear Tris(2,2,2-trichloroethoxy) Iron(III), Fe(OCH2CCl3)3

The preparation, electrical conductivity, magnetic moments, infrared, reflectance, and ⁵⁷Fe Mössbauer spectra of tris(2,2,2-trichloroethoxy) iron(III) and its adducts with some oxygen and nitrogen donor ligands are reported. Cryoscopic data of the parent compound and its complex with ethylacetate suggest these compounds to be dimeric in nitrobenzene and benzene respectively. All the compounds are covalent with Fe^III having distorted octahedral arrangement which is achieved through alkoxy bridging. The magnetic moments are lesser than those required for the spin only value indicating antiferromagnetic interactions in Fe^III atoms. The Mössbauer spectra are explained in terms of two Fe^III high spin sites corresponding to trans- and cis-positions in the structure.     

A free particle in noncommutative space-time

By examining some known wave equations it is shown that the dynamics of a free quantum particle in a slightly noncommutative space-time is equivalent to that of a charged particle moving in a self-generated (weak) electromagnetic field.Presented at the 5th International Colloquium on Quantum Groups: Quantum Groups and Integrable Systems, Prague, 20–22 June 1996.     

h-Deformation of GL(1∣1)

An h-deformation of a (graded) Hopf algebra of functions on supergroup GL(11) is introduced via a contraction of GL _q (11). The deformation parameter h is odd (Grassmann). A related differential calculus on h-superplane is presented.     

Ca2+ INFLUX INDUCED BY PHOTODYNAMIC ACTION IN HUMAN CEREBRAL GLIOMA (U-87 MG) CELLS: POSSIBLE INVOLVEMENT OF A CALCIUM CHANNEL

Abstract The plasma membrane has been implicated as a critical target of photodynamic action on cells. We have observed that the photosensitization of human cerebral glioma (U-87 MG) cells by hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD) causes a large increase in intracellular calcium [Ca²⁺]. This increase in [Ca²⁺]_i was solely due to the influx of extracellular Ca²⁺ through the plasma membrane and showed a dependence on HpD concentration, light dose and concentration of calcium in the extracellular medium. The magnitude of the Ca²⁺ influx decreased with increasing postirradiation time, which suggests that the cell membrane partially recovers from the photodynamic injury. The photoinduced Ca²⁺ influx was inhibited by the Ca²⁺ channel blocker diltiazem and the reducing agent dithioerythritol. These findings are discussed in terms of possible activation of a Ca²⁺ channel as a result of photosensitization.
