New type of interaction of 5-iodopyrimidine nucleosides with alkynes

The interaction of 1-(-D-xylofuranosyl)-5-iodo(bromo)uracil derivatives with terminal alkynes in the presence of catalytic amounts of 10% Pd/C and Cul affords the corresponding derivatives of 3-(-D-xylofuranosyl)-6-R-furo[2, 3-d]pyrimidin-2-ones in high yields.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Synthesis of 2′,3′-didehydro-3′-deoxythymidine and its activity against HIV

2,3-Didehydro-3-deoxythymidine has been obtained with an overall yield of 10% by the condensation of 1,2-di-O-acetyl-3,5-di-O-benzoyl-D-xylofuranose with bis-(dimethylsilyl)thymine and a series of subsequent transformations. The anti-HIV activity of the compound obtained was studied on the model of MT-4 lymphoid cells primarily infected with HIV-1. It was found that the substance effectively inhibits the reproduction of HIV-1 in a cell culture.Institute of Organic Chemistry, Ural Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, Ufa. Prognostication of the anticorrosive activity in the series of pentenylarylamines and their industrial introduction

Quantum-chemical parameters and regression analysis were used to predict and synthesize a number of compounds with the highest inhibiting activity in the series of pentenylarylamines. For the compounds with the highest inhibiting activity, tri-2,4,6-(1??-methyl-2??-butenyl)aniline and di-2,6-(1??-methyl-2??-butenyl)-4-methylaniline, technical documentation was developed and their inhibiting activity in media as close as possible to real oilfield conditions were performed. On the basis of results of these tests, the given compounds are recommended for pilot tests.

Recovery of heavy metal ions with calcium peroxide microparticles

Sorption properties of micrometer calcium peroxide particles produced by the chemical reaction between calcium hydroxide and hydrogen peroxide were studied. The dependences of the sorption properties of CaO₂ particles on temperature and acidity of the medium were used to find the optimal values of these parameters at which the sorption of metals is at the maximum. It was shown that CaO₂ particles are nearly as good in sorption properties with hematite and goethite nanoparticles and possess antifungal properties exceeding the corresponding characteristics of sulfur and silver nanoparticles. The simplicity of the method used to obtain the product containing 73% CaO₂, low expenditure due to the application of large-tonnage starting reagents, and its good sorption and antimicrobial properties make it possible to recommend this compound for purification of wastewater, natural water basins, and soil to remove heavy metal ions, with the simultaneous detoxication of these objects.     

Electron spin resonance and nuclear magnetic resonance of sodium macrostructures in strongly irradiated NaCl-K crystals: Manifestation of quasi-one-dimensional behavior of electrons

Data from an investigation of electron spin resonance and nuclear magnetic resonance of NaCl-K (∼1 mole%) crystals strongly irradiated with electrons imply the observation of a metal-insulator transition with decreasing temperature and the manifestation of quasi-one-dimensional electron motion in sodium macrostructures. Investigation of Phosphorylation of Cyclodextrins and Some their Derivatives

Abstract

Principal regularities of per- and regodirected phosphorylation of α-β-, and γ-cyclodextrins (R=R¹=R²=OH, n= 1–3) by trivalent phosphorus reagents were investigated. As a result, the first representatives of regularly organized phosphites and amidophosphites of cyclodextrins, including ones with interglucoside 2,3′-cyclophosphite bridges [R¹+R²=-P(NR₂′)-], having chiral cavities of different sizes, were obtained. Per-6-deoxy-6-bromocyclodextrins (R=Br) were considered as convenient intermediates for the synthesis of pyndinium salts with amphiphilic properties for the enhanced water-solubility and for the definite orientation at the phase boundary organic liqiud-water.
