Determination of fluoroquinolone antibiotics through the fluorescent response of Eu(III) based nanoparticles fabricated by layer-by-layer technique

The present work introduces the determination of fluoroquinolone antibiotics (FQs) in aqueous solutions through the fluorescent response of Eu(TTA)₃ and [Eu(TTA)₃1] (TTA⁻ and 1 are thenoyltrifluoroacetonate and phosphine oxide derivative) complexes encapsulated into the polyelectrolyte capsules fabricated through layer-by-layer deposition of poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSS) and polyethyleneimine (PEI). The variation of luminescent core, polyelectrolyte deposition and concentration conditions reveals two modes of fluorescent response on FQs of diverse structure namely the sensitization and quenching of Eu(III) centered luminescence. The obtained regularities reveal the ternary complex formation and the ligand exchange occurring at the interface of polyelectrolyte coated [Eu(TTA)₃1] based colloids as the reasons of the diverse fluorescent response of Eu(III) centered luminescence on FQs. The factors affecting the fluorescent response have been revealed, which are: the content of luminescent core, the mode of polyelectrolyte deposition, concentration and structure of FQs. The discrimination of moxifloxacin and lomefloxacin from levofloxacin, ofloxacin, difloxacin, perfloxacin through the quenching of Eu(III) luminescence in PSS-[Eu(TTA)₃1] colloids has been revealed.     

Preparing oxidized fractions of polyvinyl alcohol of a given molecular mass

The effect of two oxidizers (an oxygen–ozone mixture and hydrogen peroxide) on the kinetics of the oxidative degradation of polyvinyl alcohol in aqueous solutions is studied. Degradation of the polymer is proved not only by a reduction in the weight of oxidized fractions, but in the intrinsic viscosity of their aqueous solutions as well (and thus the average molecular weight of the resulting fractions). It is shown that the degree of the destructive reactions of polyvinyl alcohol grows along with the duration of the process, increasing the initial concentrations of H₂O₂ and raising the temperature. These results can be used in obtaining oxidized fractions of polyvinyl alcohol that have predetermined molecular weights.     

La<Subscript>2</Subscript>M<Stack><Subscript>3</Subscript><Superscript>II</Superscript></Stack>Mn<Subscript>4</Subscript>O<Subscript>12</Subscript> (M = Mg,Ca, Sr,or Ba) manganites: Synthesis and X-ray diffraction study

La₂M ₃ ^II Mn₄O₁₂ (M = Mg, Ca, Sr, or Ba) manganites have been synthesized by ceramic technology from lanthanum oxide, manganese(III) oxide, and magnesium, calcium, strontium, or barium carbonate. X-ray powder diffraction shows that these compounds crystallize in cubic perovskite space group Pm3m.     

Ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) of fullerene-containing monomers in the presence of a first-generation Grubbs catalyst

New norbornene-type monomers containing covalently bound C60 fullerene have been obtained. In the presence of the 1st generation Grubbs catalyst [(PCy₃)₂Cl₂RuCHPh] (Cy is cyclohexyl), these monomers smoothly undergo homopolymerization and copolymerization with parent fullerene-free monomers. The homopolymers are insoluble in common organic solvents, while the copolymers obtained at different molar ratios to their fullerene-free analogues are very soluble in organic solvents and can be suitable for the preparation of thin films.

Production of sulfur nanoparticles from aqueous solution of potassium polysulfide

Process for production of sulfur nanoparticles with an average size of 20 nm from an aqueous solution of potassium polysulfide by its mixing with various inorganic and organic acids was considered. It was found that, in the course of time, sulfur nanoparticles are coarsened into micrometer agglomerates, which, in turn, disintegrate under the action of an ultrasound.     

New manganites NdM3Sr3Mn4O12 and NdM3Ba3Mn4O12 (M = Li, Na, K): Synthesis and X-ray diffraction characteristics

Manganites NdM₃Sr₃Mn₄O₁₂ and NdM₃Ba₃Mn₄O₁₂ (M = Li, Na, K) were synthesized by a ceramic method from the corresponding oxides and carbonates.
