Characterization of preformed plasmas with an interferometer for ultra-short high-intensity laser-plasma interactions

The evolution of an Al preformed plasma produced by a prepulse was observed before and after the arrival of the main pulse by an interferometer using a femtosecond probe pulse. A central density depression due to the ponderomotive force of the main laser pulse in the preformed plasma with a 100 m scale length was clearly visible after the main pulse irradiation at an intensity of 5×10¹⁶ W/cm². The temporal profiles of the prepulse, characterized by a cross-correlation in conjunction with a precise density profile measurement by an interferometer, contribute to the better understanding of femtosecond laser-matter interactions. Supercurrent pumping in Josephson junctions with a half-metallic ferromagnet

A Josephson current through a half-metallic ferromagnet between two conventional superconductors is theoretically studied. The spin dynamics such as magnon excitation plays a crucial role not only for the conversion between spin-singlet and spin-triplet pairs but also for the formation of the composite state of a triplet Cooper pair and magnon, by which the Josephson current flows between the superconductors. We propose the supercurrent pumping driven by the coherent precession of the magnetization by tuning the microwave frequency to the ferromagnetic resonance frequency in a ferromagnetic Josephson junction.     

The resonant secondary emission of the F center in alkali halides

The secondary radiation after resonant excitation of F center and its linear polarization P correlated to the polarization of resonant light have been measured for five alkali halides at low temperatures. In KC1, the spectrum of P over the whole Stokes region is divided into three successive regions, the depolarization range at the one-phonon Raman scattering, the near plateau range, and the depolarization range down to vanishing. The former two have common relevance to resonant energy and symmetries of coupled phonons. These relevances are interpreted adopting a configuration coordinate model for 2s- and 2p-like excited states.     

Mass spectra of sulfinamide derivatives and identification of their thermal decomposition products

The mass spectra of 30 sulfinamide derivatives (RSONHR', R' alkyl or p-XC₆H₄) are reported. Most of the spectra had peaks attributable to thermal decomposition products. For some compounds these were identified by pyrolysis under similar conditions to be: RSO₂NHR', RSO₂SR, RSSR and NH₂R' (in all kinds of sulfinyl amides); RSNHR' (in the case of arylsulfinyl arylamides); RSO₂C₆H₄NH₂, RSOC₆H₄NH₂ and RSC₆H₄NH₂ (in the case of arylsulfinyl arylamides of the type of X = H) The mass spectra of the three thermally stable compounds showed that there are several kinds of common fragment ions. The mass spectra of the thermally labile compounds had two groups of ions; (i) characteristic fragment ions of the intact molecules and (ii) the molecular ions of the thermal decomposition products. It was concluded that the sulfinamides give the following ions after electron impact: [M]⁺, [M ? R]⁺, [M ? R + H]⁺, [M ? SO]⁺, [RS]⁺, [NHR']⁺, [NHR' + H]⁺, [RSO]⁺, [RSO + H]⁺, [R]⁺, [R + H]⁺, [R']⁺ and [M ? OH]⁺, and that the thermal decomposition products give the following ions: [RSO₂SR]⁺, [RSSR]⁺, [M ? O]⁺, [M + O]⁺ and [RSOC₆H₄NH₂]⁺.     

Studies on the synthesis of anthyridine

The sulfuration of various anthyridones (I) to the corresponding thioderivatives (II) and the desulfuration of these to 5,10-dihydroanthyridine (III) is descrihed. The preparation of anthyridin-5-one (1d) from 6 -methyl-2,2 -dipyridylamino-3-carboxylic acid (V) is also described.     

Preparation and Optical Properties of Gold-Dispersed BaTiO3, PGO (Pb5Ge3O11) and PLT (Pb1-1.5xLaxTiO3) Thin Films by Sol-Gel Process

Gold-dispersed BaTiO₃, PGO and PLT thin films, which will be used for third-order nonlinear optical devices, were prepared by sol-gel process with spin-coating using HAuCl₄4H₂O, Ba(CH₃COO)₂, Ti[O(CH₂)₃CH₃]₄, Pb(CH₃COO)₂3H₂O, Ge[O-n-C₄H₉]₄, La(CH₃COO)₃1.5 H₂O as starting materials. The thin films were heat-treated in air at temperatures ranging from 400 to 800 for 1 h. The nonlinear optical property of these thin films was measured by the degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) method using a frequency-doubled Nd: YAG laser with 20 ps pulse duration. Third-order nonlinear susceptibility χ⁽³⁾ of gold-dispersed BaTiO₃, PGO and PLT thin films with 5 vol% of gold were 1.410⁻⁶ esu, 3.510⁻⁷ esu respectively. The large χ⁽³⁾ may be ascribed to the high dielectric constant of the films.
