Variable Nozzle Turbocharger (VNT) was invented to solve the problem of matching an ordinary turbocharger with an engine.
VNT can harness exhaust energy more efficiently, enhance intake airflow response and reduce engine emissions, especially during
transient operating conditions. The difficulty of VNT control lies in how to regulate the position of the nozzle at different
engine working conditions. The control strategy designed in this study is a combination of a closed-loop feedback controller
and an open-loop feed-forward controller. The gain-scheduled proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller was implemented
as the feedback controller to overcome the nonlinear characteristic. As it is difficult to tune the parameters of the gain-scheduled
PID controller on an engine test bench, system identification was used to identify the plant model properties at different
working points for a WP10 diesel engine on the test bench. The PID controller parameters were calculated based on the identified
first-order-plus-dead-time (FOPDT) plant model. The joint simulation of the controller and the plant model was performed in
Matlab/Simulink. The time-domain and frequency-domain performances of the entire system were evaluated. The designed VNT control
system was verified with engine tests. The results indicated that the real boosting pressure traced the target boosting pressure

A navigation algorithm is indispensable for Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs). During driving, UGVs follow a global path. In
this study, we propose a navigation algorithm using Real Time Kinematic (RTK)-Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS)
units and encoders to complement global path planning. Sometimes GPS systems lose their signals and receive inaccurate position
data due to many factors, such as edifice and barrier obstructions. This paper shows that GPS deviations can be solved using
a Dead Reckoning (DR) navigation method with encoders and that position errors can be decreased through the use of RTK-DGPS
units. In addition to this method, we will introduce a new waypoint update algorithm and a steering algorithm using RTK-DGPS

A new comprehensive driver model is presented for critical maneuvering conditions with more accurate dynamic control performance.
In order to achieve a safe maneuvering mode, a new path planning scheme to maintain stability of the vehicle was designed.
A new steering strategy, considering the errors of vehicle position and yaw angle between the real track and the planned path,
was established to obtain the steering angle. Therefore, the vehicle can be adjusted to accurately follow the desired path
with the driver model, and the stability of the vehicle and the smoothness of the steering angle input were comprehensively
considered. Simulation results were used to validate the control performance in comparison with the optimal preview driver

Identifying the components of a vehicle’s interior noise is important in many phases of the noise, vibration, and harshness
(NVH) development process. Many test methods that have been widely used in the automobile industry to separate noise sources
are based on system identification methods in the frequency domain. However, none of the frequency response function-based
methods can directly estimate the wind noise component. In this article, an analytical model for the interior noise level
based on a simple power law was developed. It was assumed that the mean squared acoustic pressure for the interior noise could
be obtained by summing up those of the wind noise, road noise, and background noise. The wind noise and road noise were further
assumed to depend only on wind speed and the vehicle’s driving speed, respectively, and to follow a simple power law. The
resulting analytical model includes five parameters that can be optimized for the vehicle and the road. The validity of the
model was verified by using data obtained from cruise tests performed on a proving ground for cruise speeds ranging from 40
km/h to 130 km/h. The model is applied to the overall and 1/3-octave bands of interior noise and is shown to describe the
data trends fairly well. For the test vehicle used in the present work, the overall mean squared pressures for the wind and
road noise components are shown to be proportional to the wind speed to the 5.8 power and to the driving speed to the 3.4

Container shipping and its related service sectors help accelerate globalization of the world economy. This industry has been experiencing rapid growth, prompting container terminal operators to increase their handling capacity in response. Providing container terminal services requires substantial capital investment in physical assets such as cargo handling facilities and information systems. On the other hand, operating container terminals is a long-term investment that typically spans several business cycles. Hence prudent asset management using appropriate tools is critical for container terminal operators to sustain their businesses. Generally, due to risk-adverseness, investors are unwilling to take more risk in their investment unless they can reap a higher return. Contrary to this argument, this study finds no direct influence of better firm performance as a proxy of higher return on business risk-taking by container terminal operators. Instead, scale of operations is positively associated with business risk-taking, suggesting that container terminal operators with a larger scale of operations are willing to take more business risk. 相似文献

The ocean and Great Lakes coasts of the United States are experiencing widespread economic and environmental damage from coastal flooding and erosion. During this century, public response to such coastal hazards has evolved haphazardly in response to particular disasters. Over time, however, the range of response has broadened as research has helped to refine public understanding of physical coastal processes, and specific disasters have been studied before longer term forms of institutional response have been formulated. Earlier reliance on engineered shoreline protection has been supplemented by beach nourishment, flood insurance, building and land use regulations, coastal zone planning, and other approaches. In the presence of biofilms, stainless steels (SS) exhibits an increase in corrosion potential, called ennoblement. In the present study, the corrosion potential (Eco,) behavior of the duplex SS UNS S32760 was recorded simultaneously with the in situ marine biofilm formation in two areas at Arraial do Cabo, Southeastern Brazil. The biofilm at Forno Harbor (an anthropogenically disturbed area) was characterized by higher relative abundances of Bacteria at day 2, followed by diatoms (especially Navicula sp.) on day 10 and dinoflagellates on day 18, whereas no clear trend was recorded at Cabo Frio Island (an undisturbed area). The ennoblement of Ecor values was site-dependent. In a complementary laboratory assay, biofilms were removed and the Eco values registered in sterile conditions for the subsequent 10 days and corroborated in situ results. Understanding biofilms and SS interactions has important implications for materials science and engineering decisions as well as helping to fill in imnortant gaps in this knowledge. 相似文献

The need for acquiring the current-year traffic data is a problem for transport planners since such data may not be available
for on-going transport studies. A method is proposed in this paper to predict hourly traffic flows up to and into the near
future, using historical data collected from the Hong Kong Annual Traffic Census (ATC). Two parametric and two non-parametric
models have been employed and evaluated in this study. The results show that the non-parametric models (Non-Parametric Regression
(NPR) and Gaussian Maximum Likelihood (GML)) were more promising for predicting hourly traffic flows at the selected ATC station.
Further analysis encompassing 87 ATC stations revealed that the NPR is likely to react to unexpected changes more effectively
than the GML method, while the GML model performs better under steady traffic flows. Taking into consideration the dynamic
nature of the common traffic patterns in Hong Kong and the advantages/disadvantages of the various models, the NPR model is
recommended for predicting the hourly traffic flows in that region. 相似文献
