Intrahypophysial administration of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) resulted in extensive labelling of the cells of nucleus preopticus and nucleus lateralis tuberis. Besides, isolated retrogradely labelled neurons were observed in the nucleus preopticus periventricularis in the preoptic area, nucleus of the horizontal commissure, nucleus hypothalamicus ventralis in the rostral tuberal area, and nucleus arcuatus hypothalamicus in the caudal tuberal area. Intraobserver variation associated with the non-invasive assessment of pulmonary artery pressure (PAP), using measurement of pulmonary artery Doppler derived systolic time intervals, was investigated. Forty pairs of independent ultrasound examinations of the pulmonary artery were performed by a single observer in 20 preterm infants, median gestation 27 weeks (range 24-31 weeks). Median age at study was 17 days (range 1-47 days). paired measurements of acceleration time (AT), ratio between acceleration time and right ventricular ejection time (AT:RVET), corrected AT, and corrected AT:RVET were compared to assess intraobserver agreement. For the corrected AT:RVET ratio, the mean percentage difference between observations was -0.9% (95% confidence intervals -5.0 to 3.1%). The limits of agreement for the two measurements were -26.3 to 24.5%. The coefficient of repeatability was 25.4%. Variation for other indices was similar. Non-invasive assessment of PAP using Doppler derived systolic time intervals is associated with considerable intraobserver variation.  相似文献

There is no consensus on the ideal time interval between the completion of neo‐adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and definitive surgery for patients with breast cancer. This study sought to determine the ideal time interval from completion of systemic therapy to surgery in an attempt to define a best practice. A retrospective analysis of all patients undergoing NAC for Stage I‐III breast cancer from 1998‐2010 was undertaken. Analysis of all demographic and clinical information was performed, with emphasis on interval from completion of systemic therapy to definitive surgical management. Three hundred and eighty eight patients met the inclusion criteria with a median age of 50 (61.9% white, 33.8% black and 4.3% other). Overall, 2.8% of patients were Stage I, 57.2% Stage II and 40% Stage III. Median follow‐up was 85 months. Pathologic response to systemic therapy was complete in 20.6%, partial in 67.8% and no response or progression in 11.6%; responders (pCR or pPR) were noted to have significantly improved Disease free survival (DFS) and Overall survival (OS). Patients undergoing surgical intervention 4‐6 weeks after completion of NAC were noted to have a trend towards improved DFS and OS on multivariable analysis. These findings were also observed in the nonlinear relationship between survival risk and surgery time window using martingale residual plots. Timing of surgical intervention following the receipt of NAC may not appear to affect DFS or OS.  相似文献

Objective

To evaluate the anti-inflammatory property of the leaf exacts of Gendarussa vulgaris (G. vulgaris) Nees.

Methods

G. vulgaris Nees of the family Apocynaceae is a medium sized tree grown in semishade or no shade and is common in the Ernad and Nilambur taluks of Kerala.Various parts of this plant have been used in the treatment of ulcers, sores, inflammation, dyspepsia, healing of wounds, etc. The present study aimed at the evaluation of anti-inflammatory property of the aqueous and alcoholic extracts of the leaves by both in vitro and in vivo methods. In vitro method was estimated by human red blood cell membrane stabilisation (HRBC) method and in vivo method was estimated on the carrageenan induced paw oedima.

Results

Both the methods showed significant anti-inflammatory property of the different extracts tested.

Conclusions

The alcoholic extract at a concentration of 300 mg/mL showed potent activity on comparing with the standard drug diclofenac sodium.  相似文献

To date, more than 100 point mutations and several hundreds of structural rearrangements of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) are known too be connected with characteristic neuromuscular and other mitochondrial syndromes varying from those causing death at the neonatal stage to diseases with late ages of onset. The immediate cause of mitochondrial disorders is a defective oxidative phosphorylation. Wide phenotypic variation and the heteroplasmy phenomenon, which some authors include in mutation load, are characteristic of human mitochondrial diseases. As the numbers of cases identified and pedigrees described increase, data on the genotype-phenotype interaction and the structure and frequency of pathogenic and conditionally pathogenic mtDNA mutations in human populations are rapidly accumulated. The data on the genetics and epidemiology of mitochondrial diseases are not only important for differential diagnosis and genetic counseling. Since both neutral and mildly pathogenic mutations of mtDNA are progressively accumulated in maternal phyletic lines, molecular analysis of these mutations permits not only reconstruction of the genealogical tree of modern humans, but also estimation of the role that these mutations play in natural selection.  相似文献

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH) have been implicated in pathophysiology of feeding and certain mood disorders, including anxiety and depression. Both the peptides are abundantly present in CNS, especially in the hypothalamus and amygdala. Although they are known to exert opposite effects, particularly with reference to anxiety, the underlying mechanisms are not known. We were interested in studying the interaction between these two peptides in the regulation of anxiety, within the framework of amygdala. We administered agents like NPY, alpha-MSH, selective melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4-R) antagonist HS014 and NPY Y1 receptor agonist [Leu(31), Pro(34)]-NPY, alone and in combinations, unilaterally in right amygdala of rats and measured the response using elevated plus maze test. While NPY and [Leu(31), Pro(34)]-NPY increased the time spent and number of entries in the open arms suggesting anxiolytic-like effects, alpha-MSH resulted in opposite responses. Anxiolytic-like effect of NPY (10 nM) or [Leu(31), Pro(34)]-NPY (5 nM) was significantly reduced following prior alpha-MSH (250 ng) administration. Co-administration of HS014 (1 nM) and NPY (5 nM) or [Leu(31), Pro(34)]-NPY (1 nM) at subeffective doses evoked synergistic anxiolysis. Since the closed arm entries displayed by animals of all the groups were in a similar range, the effects might not be ascribed to the changes in general locomotor activity. These results suggest that endogenous alpha-MSH and NPY containing systems may interact in the amygdala and regulate exploratory behavior in an animal model of anxiety.  相似文献
