Large eddy simulation (LES) was performed for a spatially developing round jet and its scalar transport at four steps of Reynolds number set between 1200 and 1,000,000. A simulated domain, which extends 30 times the nozzle diameter, includes initial, transitional, and established stage of jet. A modified version of convection outflow condition was proposed in order to diminish the effect of a downstream boundary. Tested were two kinds of subgrid scale (SOS) models: a Smagorinsky model (SM) and a dynamic Smagorinsky model (DSM). In the former model, parameters are kept at empirically deduced constants, while in the latter, they are calculated using different levels of space filtering. Data analysis based on the decay law of jet clearly presented the performance of SGS models. Simulated results by SM and DSM compared favorably with existing measurements of jet and its scalar transport. However, the quantitative accuracy of DSM was better than that of SM at a transitional stage of flow field. Computed parameters by DSM, coefficient for SGS stresses, CR and SGS eddy diffusivity ratio, ΓSGS, were not far from empirical constants of SM. Optimization of the model coefficient was suggested in DSM so that coefficient CR was nearly equal in the established stage of jet but it was reduced in low turbulence close to the jet nozzle. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In carp (Cyprinus) and goldfish (Carassius), long-wavelength cones are reported to be active under scotopic conditions. Using the electroretinogram (ERG), we tested another cyprinid fish, Danio aequipinnatus, which contains A1-based visual pigments and for which we had previously measured the spectral sensitivities of individual cones. Dark adaptation curves show a rod/cone break at about 45 min. When thoroughly dark-adapted, the spectral sensitivity function is broader than can be accounted for by self-screening of rhodopsin, but it can be modeled by an additive combination of rods and the 560-nm cones. Dim, red background light causes adaptation of rods and a broadening of the spectral sensitivity function, which can be simulated by increasing the proportion of cones in the model. Brighter red backgrounds adapt the 560-nm cones. Because of the effect of red adapting lights, the ERG evidence for the participation of long-wavelength cones close to visual threshold appears to be different in Danio than in the goldfish Carassius. 相似文献

A new type of Langmuir trough with radial compression is reported for studies of monolayer properties and fabrication of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. The trough included twenty curved diaphragms, which form a circular shape on water and compress monolayers. Typical monolayers of arachidic acid, DL--phosphatidylcholine dipalmitoyl, cellulose tridecanoate, and poly (butyl methacrylate) showed reproducible surface pressure-area isotherms with radial compression. Flow profiles were studied of monolayers on cellulose tridecanoate and poly(butyl methacrylate) and suggested that the monolayers are radially compressed with no particular film disturbance. A Wilhelmy glass plate preserved no deflection in the subphase surface from low to high surface pressures during the film compression and decompression; no pressure excess causing the deflection, which is frequently observed in the case of the film compression with a sliding barrier, was found on both sides of the Wilhelmy plate. through solution chemistry technique. The relative density was above 97% for both the obtained materials, and the grain size
was less than 90 nm and 40 nm for the ZrO2 monolith and the ZrO2/Al2O3 composite, respectively. The materials showed superplastic behavior in compression at temperature of 1200°C.

The photoconductivity (PC) of undoped GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wires (QWRs) along the wire direction is studied for the first time. The PC spectrum reveals a strong substrate-related background as well as several small structures, some of which could be connected with the QWRs. This suggestion is confirmed by the observed polarization dependence of the PC and by photoluminescence (PL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) measurements on a similar sample. Prolonged pre-illumination of the sample with infrared light (hν=1.18 eV) considerably reduces the background in the PC spectrum, and makes the QWR structures better resolved. 相似文献
